Although everyone does not experience side effects to the same degree it does happen to most women in some manner. You may even try some over the counter medication to help but with your Drs permission. You must also remember since you mention what you have been through that you no longer have Cancer and this drug is an important part of preventing a recurrence. Speak to the Oncology team about some relief from this discomfort. Regards .....

It is of course her decision re whether lowering the risk in her case is worth enduring the side effects. If she does choose to take an AI and the side effects of Arimidex are intolerable, she could see if she would do better on a different one. However, in at least one recent study, Arimidex came out ahead of the others in preventing recurrence. Best wishes to both you and your wife...

Have developed a heart rhythm disturbance, shortness of breath, edema of hands and legs/feet since being on Anastrozole. How worried should I be? I have now nearly completed 5 years of Arimidex, My Oncologist ir recommending that in October I change to Femara secondary to a clinical trial which has concluded that I am at some risk of the cancer still recurring. I am unsure about this as the side effects of the arimidex hot flashes, weight gain etc causing me to be on a high dose of Effexor are quite debilitating at times. What are my risks if I choose to just stop the Arimidex and not continue with a change to Femara...

Well, for me Arimidex was so very horrible, I barely lasted three days on it. I was in an almost catatonic state of depression two hours after I took the first dose, and then got just about every other bad side effect soon after. Femara, in comparison, relative to the other, was not so bad at all and I lasted almost thirty days. But not every woman has the same problems, or any at all. Many though do have some problems.

If you've had Hashimoto's for that long, have you also been on any replacement thyroid hormone medication? If so, what medication, dosage and for how long? Have you had Free T4 and Free T3 tested to determine actual thyroid hormone levels? If so, what are their results, with reference ranges? I've read that there's a connection between breast cancer and thyroid disease, but I'm not exactly sure what it is.

s what I elected to do with my Stage 1, 2cm IDC that was excised with clean margins in August 2002. The potential side effects of these ancillary treatments, for me, far far out-weighed any possible benefit that it would give me. So, I said I didn't want them. I'm just continuing with regular screenings in that small chance that the cleanly excised cancer might recur. And like I said, if it does, I'll get it cut out, again.

My son is on GH for GHD. Also did 2.25 yrs anastrozole since bone age was slightly ahead. Now only on GH. Age 15.5, bone age 13.5-14. Has all the puberty markers for tanner 4: pubic hair now starting a line to navel. Has to shave a couple times per week but only few hairs in beard area, voice deeper but no prominent adams apple yet. A year ago at endo appt we were told he didnt have to endure anymore testicle size checks. I assume that means they are near adult in size.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 er+/pr+ breast cancer with lymph node involvement in November of 2011. I am 43 years of age. I had a mastectomy with lymph node dissection. I received 4 treatments of Adriamycin and Cytoxan, then 12 treatments of Taxol, followed by 33 radiation treatments. I am currently taking Anastrozole. My ob/gyn wondered why they didn't want me to have a total or partial hysterectomy. Should I do this. Am I at high risk for cancer of the ovaries or uterus?

I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.

Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.

Hi. I am on week 60/72, second round of treatment. I was really really sick after shot for first few months and then this resolved and became tolerable at least. I now find that I am having these same significant side effects later in tx. This didn't happen last round, but I went 48 then. Anyone else have this happen?
