Common Questions and Answers about Amphetamine and the brain

adderall

Avatar m tn NOW I am no Dr but I have been studying Addiction and the map of the Brain for over 4 yrs now, and just read all about these mental disorders and using substances to feel better. Have you ever talked with a specialist? From all my reading & research, they all say that we must address those deep underlying issues here. Are you taking your meds for your mental disorders?
1274514 tn?1277057923 ve seen the insides of those places in psych films when I used to study that, and they are SO stark, SO sad, and not too friendly neighbors. Or the lead in the stuff will fix it so you are no longer an intelligent person but you become retarded. Then there's jail time, because inevitably, if you get addicted, which usually happens the FIRST TIME you use it, you'll steal and deal to stay high, and the police are all about catching criminals, they DO NOT STOP until they have their man.
342425 tn?1241379464 There is a theory that ADHD is a problem with one side of the brain being under active and the other side being over active but without all the neccesary info to do so properly. This could explain what is happening with your boy. I have seen the pictures of functional MRI scans of brains with and without ADHD. The ADHD brain uses so many different little pieces of the brain to do tasks that non ADHD brains use one large piece to do.
Avatar m tn About 5 seconds later, I felt like my soul was cracking out of my body and felt a severe stabbing pain on the middle of my brain that lasted about 2 seconds. I got up out of my seat and started screaming on the top of my lungs. I had no symptoms afterwards. What had happened? I understand that MDMA is an amphetamine which works on serotinergic and dopaminergic system which can cause vasconstriction. I also understand that marijuana can increase stroke volume. Is it possible i had a TIA?
Avatar n tn This a buildup of these neurotransmitters at synapses in the brain. When nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are activated by amphetamine, the mental focus, the ability to stay awake, and the ability to concentrate is improved, which is helpful for those with hyperactivity disorders or narcolepsy.
Avatar f tn I am in need of some advice, i looked everywhere and have found no help. My ex husband of whom I was with for 9 yrs, has been taking Adderall for about 2 1/2 years. He is not prescribed this medication. He gets it from someone he knows thats prescribed it. He says it helps him concentrate at work and gives him the "get up and go". It does do that i have seen him after he takes it. He takes up to 90 mg a day sometimes less but not more than 90 mg.
Avatar m tn He is obviously also lazy when it comes to anything that involves challenge. It was not until I have combined the Naproxen and amphetamine that I have had this weak heartbeat and pulse in the neck (both sides). When I put my hand up to my heart it is VERY hard to feel it beating, and my girlfriend concurs. I hate not having health insurance.
Avatar f tn Hi, Adderall, a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, can stimulate the central nervous system and affect chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. This is usually indicated for narcolepsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and may be used for migraine prevention. Hope this helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Adderall - Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Adderall is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Catapres (clonidine) - Catapres lowers blood pressure by decreasing the levels of certain chemicals in your blood. This allows your blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax (widen)and your heart to beat more slowly and easily.
Avatar m tn Mephedrone is an amphetamine-like drug, and like other stimulants, can lead to a variety of symptoms including dizzines, headaches, and in severe cases even seizures, stroke or bleeding in the brain, vasopasm (abnormal constriction of the blood vessels in the brain) and vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain). The majority of these adverse effects occur at higher doses and with sustained use, but can occur even with small doses.
Avatar f tn I am to the point where I take the ADHD stimulants, (VYVANSE - 70 mgX1 or 2, or 3 during the day) and/or Amphetamine salts 30mg. This is obvious signs of drug addiction/dependency/abuse. I know. Again - Without ADHD medications or antidepressants I still feel as terrible as I do while taking the ADHD medications. I understand this seems like I am being impossible, but I really cannot help but express what I have been feeling and thinking for the past who knows how long.
Avatar m tn The problem is finding the cause or causes but at the end of the symptoms and causes of serotonin deficiency is general info to help boost serotonin. When you reach a serious state of serotonin deficiency suicidal thoughts occur as I unfortunately know from experience.
Avatar f tn need help to stop using diet pills and uppers to get thru the day.
Avatar n tn how long does it take for amphetamine to clear out you're system and start to feel you're normal self again?
Avatar m tn With longer study of the drug it was found that it causes long lasting and sometimes permanent changes to the actual neurological receptors on the brain of a specific neurotransmitter called serotonin. This serotonin has a lot to do with our mood regulation. The more of it we have available to serotonin specific receptors, the happier we are. What you experienced with your overdose is a serotonin high.
Avatar m tn If and when you withdraw from the amphetamine (or anything else), you might have to tolerate some temporary discomfort. With amphetamine withdrawal, the discomfort usually comes in the form of depression and/or fatigue. If you can't tolerate lowering each of the three daily doses by 5mg, you might consider starting by lowering only the 5pm dose by a tiny amount, maybe even by less than 5mg.
Avatar n tn t started a job I need for the rent. I spent a couple years on the streets and I think all the time I have had untreated ADHD contributed to a lot of the bad luck I have had my entire life. Anyway my Doc gave me Strattera and the 3rd day on it I felt dizzy and confused, I felt over anxious and felt like I was loosing my mind. I had been on dexadrine years ago for depression after a hysterectomy at age 27 and I told him that my life came together on it but he gave me Strattera.
Avatar n tn the number of addicted newborns has tripled in the past decade. they are scrambling to find the right treatment for them.
Avatar m tn The difference is that while the Xanax really helps for the anxiety, it is not treating the cause of the anxiety. That is what the adderall is doing. Of course, not positive on that - but anxiety is a very strong co-disorder of adhd. And, I feel it is even stronger in adult undiagnosed adhd. So if you are now treating the possible cause of your anxiety - then that is good. And, I have seen this reported many times with adults.
1861446 tn?1320445285 Its not a rapid change - many expect it to be like flipping a light switch - but in reality its much more like a dimmer switch. The changes will occur and the old life that you sort of remember will return once again. You cant use the speed your entire life or that life will be short indeed. Keep posting here for support and keep a positive mental image. I am personally a great fan of amino acids and vitamins. Amphetamine in particular takes a lot out of your body.
Avatar n tn it is an amphetamine and will make u speed if u do not have ADD...depression is the main wd symptom as the brain has to catch up and start making endorphins again...2 months is not a long time so perhaps u will be ok..good u r doing it now!
Avatar f tn my dr toldme if the prozac dont kick in and help my depression he will precrine a anphetamine with it...has any on eheard of this?
Avatar n tn I have been on Prozac20 mg for almost 9yrs, Wellbutrin 300 mg bid for about 5 yrs , and Aderrall 30mg SR for 2 yrs. For the last 4yrs i have experienced significant memory loss, word finding difficult, decreased concentration, night sweats and still feel depressed. The Aderall no longer works. I think the Prozac is causing the memory problems and brain fog. My providers says it's not the Prozac. I'm thinking of weaning myself off the prozac first and then the Adderall.
Avatar f tn time drips by much faster, and you have a nice warm fuzzy glow inside. the problem is over time, the brain receptors increase and change, and the body no longer makes the endorphins naturally because the drugs have filled the void. which explains why we top out and require more pills to get the same high as we did when we started. then over time, it just keeps growing into a larger addiction and a total mess.
Avatar n tn I have two sons with ADHD. The 'upper meds' 'boots' is talking about are the ones the are in the amphetamine class...extremely addictive, if abused. Ritilan, Adderal, Focalin, Daytrana are a few more in that class. He/she also added that they are an recovering addict, so I assume that they have abused, or are afraid that they will abuse these meds. Boots: I know of one that isn't an 'upper'. It's called 'Concerta'.
