My 6 year old woke up with bright red rash no hives 2 weeks ago on her face and neck very itchy Her doctor thought she had scarlet fever and strep throat.. treated with amoxicillin. She took it for 5 days then developed hives on the face and neck.. also had small pink puffy circular spots that itched on her torso and legs and shoulder.. The hives would come and go.. I gave her benadryl and cortisone cream. We went back to the doctor who said they are definitly hives and he prescribed Omnicef.
We took him to the doctor and was told that he was allergic to amoxicillin. We immediately started him on Benadryl every 6hrs and it seemed to have work but as the benadryl wears off his rashes starts to come back. We have been giving him benadryl round the clock x 2 1/2 days now. My question is -- why did it take so long for him to get a reaction from amoxicillin? I thought you typically see a reaction immediately after you take a medication.
No, amoxicillin will not effect the outcome of your treatment. If you have an infection, you should take it as long as you are not allergic to penicillin derivatives. Your liver will be fine. I was on very high powered antibiotics twice and still UND.
You must continue with Benadryl and Prednisone. Have patience, it will work. You can go on with the in-vitro cycle as scheduled.
i had this issue and turns out i was wrongly diagnosed with a sinus issue when i actually had glandular fever, which causes a terrible rash and reaction when treated with Amoxicillin. Turns out my doctor didn't check my records and notice i was allergic to all Penicillin medication as well. i ended up in A+E after my rash spread rapidly (about an hour) from where it started on the tops of my arms to over my entire body. my face was swelling, and throat closing.
Good Day. I was recently diagnosed with a lingering sinus infection. 27m, in good health otherwise. Medications prescribed: 1. Amoxicillin 2. 2cc Steroid Injection (cellestone?) given 3 days ago now. 3. Promethazine w/cod. Symptoms: Day 1: 1. Shortly after the steroid injection(day 1) I felt a bit dizzy, and had lower blood pressure. But nothing severe 2. Took first dose of Amoxicillin that night , as well as 1tsp of Promethazine 3. My legs felt achy/heavy that night Day 2: 1.
my daughter tends to break out at random (she is 2) but the rashes / hives goes away after a couple of hours. We still have no idea what the allergy is. Now she was diagnosed with an ear infection yesterday, she didn't see her normal doctor because her normal doctor was out of town, which is fine, I know the other doctor. the doctor gave her amoxicillin for her ear infection. Since last night's dosage and today's dosage, she has been breaking out in rash and the rash hasn't gone away.
I began taking amoxicillin on Monday for sinusitis and began taking isotretinoin on Tuesday. I have never had an allergic reaction to any medication and I also took isotretinoin for 5 months 8 years ago with no major side effects. However, on Wednesday I noticed a rash forming on the outside of both elbows. They are covered in red patches and pinpoint bumps. They are dry, not oozing, and itch very minimally.
My ten month old has had the flu this week and was previously treated for an ear in fection last week with amoxicillin. After taking it for ten days he woke up today with a horrible break out all over his little face and body. After meeting our doctor at the office on a sat, he seemed to think it was a reaction. We have one dose of benydryl in, but it has actually worsened and spread since this afternnon. It looks horrific!
my 9 month daughter had been put on amoxicillin for her sinus infection. when we started giving it to her, she seemed fine up until 2 weeks later then I noticed what looked like tons of mosquito bites on her leg. couple days later, I noticed she had these red & white welts on her arm & was quickly spreading to her chest, back & up to her neck. I was panicing so i rushed her to the er & the doc said she had hives from the amoxicillin.
my hands feel all itchy and with the colorless rashes as well Am i suffering from an amoxicillin rash because i'm very scared of having measles or chickenpox again because its that time of year this month. (i've had measles and chickenpox as a kid, can i still acquire one now ?
ughhhh!!!! seems I a going crazy with frustration! I have been on amoxicillin ( large amounts( for 5 days now) for possible LYME ( he is trying to give me a trial of antibiotics to see how and if I respond However I sent him a message last night letting him know I get this weird itchy feeling on my body ( anywhere and everywhere on my skin) randomly.I told him it kinda feels like something is there (crawly) and I asked him if this is normal?
My 13-yo daughter had a rash in response to penecillin when she was 10, but had taken it successfully when she was much younger. The dr. thought it would be ok for her to take amoxicillin. 7 hrs. after taking one pill her airways began to close and had to be given intravenous steroids and antihistamines. It immediately reversed the airway restriction.
You're the 3rd person (that I'm aware of) on this site with AIP. I was diagnosed in June 2007 after several mths of problems with common bile duct stricture, elevated liver function tests and 28 lb weight loss which ultimately turned out to be secondary to AIP. Gallbladder was kicking out a lot of sludge which made matters worse and was removed. I had a stent placed - which became infected (into hospital for IV antibiotics), then it was replaced.
Hello and hope you are doing well. It could be an allergic reaction and Benadryl will help. But please stop amoxicillin immediately and consult your doctor for alternate ones. Also, if her symptoms are worsening or if she develops breathlessness, please go to the ER. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
The spasm cough causes it all and when it goes away (usually 4 to 5 days) things are relatively normal although a normal cough stays with me for weeks after. I notice if I catch it early (which means I carry antibiotics with me all the time) it is not as nearly as bad. Doctors have diagnosed this as Asthma, chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma etc etc. All different specialists seem to have a different prognosis and the recommended pills over the years have not really done any good.
My son has had a severe allergic reaction to Amoxicillin with hives, high fever, and trouble breathing with a visit to the Emergency room. His doctor just prescribed Omnicef for him today. He has had one dose. Should I be concerned?
ON THE EIGHT DAY I BROKE OUT WITH A HEAD TO TOE RED RASH WHICH ITCHES. I AM NOW TAKING 50 MG OF BENADRYL EVERY FIVE HOURS. SEEMS TO BE HELPING. I AM JUST CONSERNEDTHAT IT'S BEEN 2 MONTHS. DO YOU THINK THIS IS AN ALLERGY .
we had to rush him to the er to get three shots. although he can take amoxicillin with out a reaction.
Immediately I started benadryl doses. He is not itchy with that, but today he looks like a giant, breathing red blotch. Does anyone have any suggestions for lessening the severe look of these spots? His pediatrician told me to start giving claritin once a day.
And to put benadryl in Maalox to numb the area. By the next morning, I started having episodes of my throat swelling. This caused three trips to the ER and three EMS visit. One PA said it was a throat infection with pus and prescribed Amoxicillin(?). Others strongly hinted that was caused by anxiety. I was also given Xanax and two Prednisone tapers. Will I do not have the throat swelling anymore. But now when I eat any near solid, I feel like it is stuck in my throat.
I put one on in the afternoon, and in the evening I noticed my thighs were speckled with hives. I had a few on my arms, and couple on my collarbone. I should add I think they started at work a few hours after I wore the pad, because I was sitting and noticed my ankles were incredibly itchy and had raised bumped. I haven't had hives since before high school. Also, I started taking amoxicillin about two weeks ago for an ear infection.
The rash appeared not long after I began taking Amoxicillin however I have always taken Amoxicillin with no problems at all (since Nov. I have throat flairups, the doctors are not sure what is causing it. My lymph nodes swell, tonsils are infected, fever, white on my tongue, etc however I always test negative for mono and strep). Just in case, I was taken off the Amoxicillin but the rash keeps increasing. The rash started as small tiny red dots across my abdomen and has spread.
Over the past two weeks I have been dealing with a cold than turned into a sinus infection that has only recently begun to pass. My doctor prescribed me antibiotics over this last week that I just finished taking two days ago. All though my sinus infection is getting better, I woke up this morning with an itch on my foot around my ankles where the base of my leg meets my foot... Being only half awake to experience, I just scratched and went back to sleep.
I dont know what it is. She had an ear infection and has been on amoxicillin for the last week and half and had no problems with it. There has been no change in anything that we use in our home. She has been inside due to her ear infection. The only things that we could came up with that was different was she got a piece of her daddy's sandwich that was made on pumpernickle bread, she has never had that before.

Hi, Augmentin is an oral antibacterial combination consisting of the antibiotic amoxicillin and the β-lactamase inhibitor clavulanate potassium. Side effects may occur such as hypersensitivity reactions. This may include skin rashes, pruritus, urticaria, serum sickness-like reactions (skin rash accompanied by arthritis, arthralgia, myalgia, and frequently fever), hypersensitivity vasculitis, and an occasional case of exfoliative dermatitis. Hello, It can be due to heat rash or sweat dermatitis. Use a mild cleanser with moisturizing properties like Cetaphil. Also use cotton clothes and change the clothes twice if there is any increased sweating. Try keeping the skin free of sweat as far as possible. If the symptoms still persist then you can apply mild steroid like dermacort. For the itching antihistaminics like Benadryl or Claritin can be taken.
Got hives, rash, swollen lips and extreme itching and blotches from head to toe. Was on vacation so stopped medication after 3 days of taking it. It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
