I then went to the oral surgeon a week later for a consultation. He said I had bone loss near the wisdom tooth from the infection, which scared me. He told me to wait to take another dose of amoxicillin until the day before the extraction. My jaw is currently hurting right below the lower left wisdom tooth. Does this mean the infection has returned from the first dose of amoxicillin and if so, am I still ok to wait until a week from tomorrow to have the tooth extracted?
He identified the issue as a tooth infection and scheduled a root canal for after the infection is cured. I had no swelling at the time.
The pain lessened but was still noticeable since beginning the antibiotic (amoxicillin). This morning I woke up with the pain mostly gone from the tooth; however, my jaw is now swollen with what feels like a hard lump and is sensitive to being touched.

Hi there, for 3 weeks I've had a terrible tooth infection. The first few days I fobbed it off as I'm scared of the dentist but started to hurt so bad I couldn't sleep. So, went to dentist and she couldn't see anything wrong, even with the X-ray but put me on amoxicillin and arranged another appointment.
The dentist first prescribed amoxicillin for the infection. It has been over ten days, and I have pain and swelling in my lower cheek. Upon calling my dentist, I asked for a stronger antibotic (hence I have a tolerence of amoxicillin due to years of usage) he denied and let me know I needed to have tooth immediately extracted or the infection would spread. I do not have the funds currently this week to get it extracted. I have a prescription for amoxicillin that I have not used.

well, could the infection spread after I had the tooth extracted even if im taking amoxicillin?? and I thought it was weird that he put me on amoxicillin on tuesday and had me take 4 pills the night be4 and 2 more the next morning just before the extraction, isn't that too soon? should he have waited longer for the antibiotics to work?

How long after starting amoxicillin before the pain from a tooth infection goes away? I saw the dentist and started taking amoxicillin about 30 hours ago. I have a root canal scheduled a week from now. But the pain is as intense as it was prior to starting the treatment. I do have type II diabetes treated with diet and pills. I know this can prolong infections. But wow, I sure would like the pain to decrease. I'm taking vicodin and it still hurts!

About a month ago I cracked a tooth. A week or so after the crack is swelled up pretty bad. I went to urgent care and the doctor games me 500mg of penicillin 4 times a day. The penicillin knocked out the swelling in a couple days and everything pretty much went back to normal. Last night the area swelled up again and even my law line started swelling. I could feel a large bump in my gum line which I'm guessing was the infection.
When your DH taps on the tooth, does it hurt? Is it painful with cold, hot or sweets?
All of these things can point to a badly infected tooth. It certainly can give him a sore throat and swollen lymph glands.
Antibiotics will only work with that kind of an infection for so long. It will reoccur unless properly addressed. He really should get to a dentist and have the tooth checked with a xray to see if there is an infection at the root.
And yesterday I had to have a tooth pulled, (My teeth seem to be falling apart.) And the dentist gave me amoxicillin for the infection and tramadol for the pain. Both say should not be taken in cases of liver problems. I am taking only half the dose he prescribed of the pain medication, and will stop it as soon as the pain stops. But the amoxicillin should be completely taken, to clear up the infection. What should I do? I don't want to cause any more damage to my liver!

I was put on Amoxicillin for 7 days (500 mg every 6 hours) to get rid of the infection, and went in yesterday for my root canal.
I told the endodontist performing my procedure that it didn't feel like the infection was completely gone even though I finished my antibiotics. He told me that wasn't a problem and went ahead with my root canal. He sealed it up with a temporary filling and I have to go back in a week for the permenant composite filling.

m fine with, but to add to dealing with the pain, the amoxicillin gave me a yeast infection! So here I am, 30 weeks pregnant, mouth still aching, and a yeast infection to top it all off. This has not been my week at all!

About two weeks ago I went to the dentist as I had terrible pain in my front tooth and gums. I was put on ponstan for pain and amoxicillin for the infection for five days. After the five days my tooth and gums felt fine but then a couple of days later the pain in my tooth flared up again. I'm afraid that my tooth may be infected and I will have to get root canal done which can be quite expensive. Is there anyone here that can confirm if the infection has spread to my tooth.
Hey! so my situation is i have a pretty bad tooth infection due to a half done root canal and pretty terrible negligence from a dentist. I've had all types of tooth pain but this is probably the worst, This also happens to be in the same location i had surgery to remove a tooth fragment from a root that was left 12 years ago which started to root and cause multiple abscess.
Thank you for your reply. My tooth has been quite settled today but I had some left over amoxicillin 500mg from a previous Infection and I took this along with 400mg burofen. I Know I shouldn't have but the pain was aching and I was distressed. I have a curved root under this tooth and I have been told this makes it more difficult. Do you think this will require another root canal to be done? I understand that you have not seen my tooth but I am so grateful to any response you can give.
I am wondering if a side effect from a long term abscessed tooth can be blood in his semen. A doctor put him on Amoxicillin 1500mg every 8 hours for 6 doses then 500mg every 8 hours for 14 days.
Is this proper treatment?
I went to the dentist on the 1st who sent me to an oral surgeon and percribed me 12 Tylenol #3 and amoxicillin. Finished the amoxicillin and saw the oral surgeon on the 8th. I have extractions scheduled for the 23rd but I still have an abscessed tooth. I had to go back to my dentist on the 15th for her to tell me that she wouldn't give me another dose of antibiotics and to take tylenol (which ive practically been living off of the last few weeks) for the pain. Which doesn't help.
