I was prescribed amoxicillin a couple days ago for strep throat and an ear infection and when I opened the bottle to take it I noticed that it smelled bad. I don't know if it's normal or not so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know if amoxicillin is safe to take during pregnancy. I am 19 weeks 2 Days and I am concerned. I went to my primary care physician because I have been having a sore throat and really bad headaches. My ob said there is nothing he can do because its really not pregnancy related and its gotten to the point of unbareable. He said I had a bad viral infection and strep throat. I went to my GP on 12/18 with a 100 low fever and a sore throat. Had a strep test done and it was positive. Got prescribed amoxicillin which I started right away. I am very nauseous and throw up a lot because of the pregnancy. I took the antibiotics for 5 days but then stopped because they made me even more nauseous. Got my sore throat back on 12/25 but this time it hurts even more. I don't really have a fever (99.7). Can I try to go back on the antibiotics or can I let this run its course ?
Perhaps he has some resistance to the augmentin (which is pretty rare) or needs a higher dose of amoxicillin to hit the strep.
I am confused about how much amoxicillin to give my 80 pound son for strep throat. One doctor prescribed 1 teaspoon every 12 hours of 400 MG/5 ML SUSP. Another doctor prescribed 2 teaspoons every 12 hours of 400 MG/5 ML SUSP. Is it 1 or 2 teaspoons?
My 6 year old woke up with bright red rash no hives 2 weeks ago on her face and neck very itchy Her doctor thought she had scarlet fever and strep throat.. treated with amoxicillin. She took it for 5 days then developed hives on the face and neck.. also had small pink puffy circular spots that itched on her torso and legs and shoulder.. The hives would come and go.. I gave her benadryl and cortisone cream. We went back to the doctor who said they are definitly hives and he prescribed Omnicef.
The doctor took one look at him and said he is reacting to the amoxicillin. She said that she had to culture for strep, and told us no doctor should ever treat strep without confirming it with a culture. So, she did a culture and it came back neg for strep. However, she said that is not totally accurate because he was on amoxicillin so it might be neg even if he did have strep. She looked at his throat and said it was still filled with pus and put him on Azithromycin to treat the strep.
I was taking amoxicillin 875 mg twice a day for ten days for a strep infection. I have been taking Microgestin Fe 1/20 for a year. No where on the amoxicillin bottle did it warn about messing with birth control. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend within the first couple of days of taking amoxicillin. Now my period is late and I am concerned that I may be pregnant. What are my chances?
Now, after consistently taking the medication my throat is sore to the point of not being able to swallow, the right side of my neck is swollen from my lymph nodes and painful to the touch or even turning my head, and it's even made my jaw/mouth/cheek start tingling and feeling slightly numb. What the heck is going on? Some say it could be strep coming on but amoxicillin is typically prescribed for that as well so why is it fixing the original problem while a new one develops?

It is now Saturday, my daughter was diagnosed with strep throat Wednesday night and started amoxicillin in the urgent care, Friday afternoon she broke out in a itchy rash...mostly on her torso but some on her legs, neck, and arms. She has been on amoxicillin several times before from ear infections when she was little. The only difference with that is it is no longer pink (the amoxicillin).
I was taking a course of amoxicillin for strep throat and on my second last day of treatment I start to get hives. They started around my upper thigh, arm pit and under my breast on a Saturday. By Sunday they were much worse and I went to the emergency room. The doctor felt it was a food allergy, although I hadn't eaten anything new or unusual to me. The following day I developed hives on the soles of my feet, palms and around my mouth and eyes.
I am currently taking a round of amoxicillin for another problem (strep throat, 2 pills twice a day for 10 days.) These will be finished on this Friday. I postponed my regularly scheduled teeth cleaning/check-up, because it was only a few weeks away. I re-scheduled it for one month from the end of this amoxicillin treatment. Is that sufficient time in-between antibiotic courses for the amoxicillin to be effective again for dental prophylaxis?
I took her to another doctor who diagnoised her with a severre strep throat and flu. She was put on 500mg of amoxicillin 4 times a day for ten days and loratab so she can swallow. She has been on these for a little over 48 hours. She has been running a fever between 101-103 for the past five days. It will go down after taking tylenol, but jumps right back up........

My 8 yr old daughter just had a reaction to amoxicillin after 8 days of use for the treatment of strep. I took her to our family physician and he gave her a steroid shot. The rash dissapeared within 4 hours of the shot. He also suggested, which we have followed, administer over the counter Claritin for children during the day; and Benydryl for children at night time.
Is it safe to take amoxicillin during pregnancy. I am 24 weeks. My dentist prescribed it, but it seemed like he had to confer with all of his colleges before writing the prescription. What do think?
I had strep in Nov and was givin amox and even though I knew better didn't take the entire supply. I took it about 6 days, my throat hurt again about a week later so I took 3 more pills and was fine, so I thought. A few days later I began to have these red dots, I say dots because nothing is in them yet they are raised not a flat red spot. They do not itch nor are they painful. I went to my Dr and to 2 er's because nobody seems to know what this is or how to get rid of it.
We've had intercourse several times and nothing has come about from it. Here's the situation. She took two, maybe three amoxicillin pills over one weekend (on a saturday and sunday. she hadn't taken any pills before or after that weekend) we had unprotected sex on sunday afternoon for about 10 minutes. I did not ejaculate inside of her. I know that there is always a possibility of pregnancy, but I wanted to know how much a couple of amoxicillin pills would affect her birth control.
I just finished 7 days of antibiotics because I tested positive for strep B. The high dosage of amoxicillin gave me a yeast infection and diarreah which really sucked, but it was completley safe for the baby. I'll be 11 wks this Saturday, and my Dr. told me it's nothing to be concerned about. It's not sexually transmitted or anything like that. It's like a bacteria, don't worry!!
So for the past few weeks i have suspected i have contracted chlamydia but havent gotten it checked out yet. Today i had to go to the doctor for strep throat and got prescribed amoxicillin, which i know is often prescribed to treat chlamydia as well. My 2 year old son was taking amoxicillin for strep throat about a month ago and the rash started on the back of his neck. I didn't think anything of it until he started having a fever of 103 to go with it. I just thought the rash was from a new laundry detergent that I started using a day before, but he wasn't getting any better so I took him to his doctor. and thank god I did because it turned out he was having a really bad reaction to the medicine.
If that is the case, then you should stop taking the amoxicillin. Make a note of that so you remember that you have got a side effect from the amoxicillin and tell your doctor before he prescribes any medication to you that you have an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin so that he can prescribe a different medication. The big question is "Did you have this rash before you started to take the amoxicillin?" If no, then carry on with it. If yes, then you must stop taking it.
Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with group b strep in early pregnancy? I tested positive in my urine test and just finished a 10 day therapy of amoxicillin. I am 12 weeks pregnant. I worry about taking amoxicillin in the 1st trimester and what will happen at delivery. I guess I just need some reassurance that things will be okay. I've waited for this baby for so long and love it so much already that I am just nervous about pretty much everything.
Day 3 on amoxicillin. no puss and the swelling seems to be going down. Tonsils are still pretty gross looking.
I am 19w and have been on amoxicillin for 7 days now. It doesn't seem to be kicking the infection. I'm still coughing and sneezing, and now wheezing. I have a lot of build up in my chest and wonder, given the limited drugs I'm allowed, what is the next step? Can I develop a bronchial infection or pneumonia?
I was diagnosed with strep throat about 2 weeks ago. I went one week taking amoxicillin 3 times a day. By the next Monday, I was worse. I called my doctor, who changed me to Azithromycin. My laryngitis is better. Most of the sore throat is gone. However, I still have sore swollen glands, and I still have a large white pocket in my throat (Next to my Faucial Pillars). Is this typical? How long should I give it for the white patch and gland stuff to go away?
I'm 8 weeks pregnant and got strep throat for the 4th time since finding out I'm pregnant. I woke up this morning with a sore throat and by tonight there was white spots all over my tonsils. I woke up an hour ago and now they are totally covered in that yucky white stuff. I've been given amoxicillin 500 every time and it works, and I take the full round till they are gone. A week or so after they are gone it comes back..
Hello. I've had a moderate sore throat for over three weeks. I was tested for strep after 2 weeks and that came back negative. I was given amoxicillin for a week and that did not improve anything. I also have had an ear ache with the sore throat, though it seems to be more behind or under the ear at times. I do not have GERD, I have recently been to a GI and everything was fine there.
I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have had strep throat going on the 4th time since finding out I'm pregnant. I have been givin amoxicillin 500 everytime.
