The next day i was rushed to the emergency room. And to my suprise the reason why i got this rash was because of mono. Mono is a virus passed down from person to person from mouth and touch contact. The reason why you have this rash is because of the Mixture between AMOXICILIN AND MONO CAN CAUSE A DRUG RASH. My suggestion is get plenty of rest go to hospital and get checked for mono. Though after you take the steroid and benadryl get rest. Then get outside and play.
Hi, The rash appeared prior to intake of amoxicillin? Is this correct? And the hives developed after amoxicillin use? Have you stopped giving her amoxicillin?
I did not take any more of the amoxicillan after I was told it was mono. I had just started to feel better except a few days ago I had a rash develop on the palms of my hands which spread yesterday to a full body extremely itchy red rash. Would taking one pill of amoxicillan give me this rash? What is the best anti itch product to use for this case?
aright so i was prescribed Amoxicillin a month ago and broke out with a rash. i later found out that if you have had mono or ebstein bar in the past that your are 80 percent likely to develop a rash. After i realized what the rash was from i figured id take medication and it'd go away. well i was wrong. I was put on a steroid and the rash did get much better, but never completely healed. After about 2 weeks the itching completely stopped until yesterday wen the itching started up again.
If I suspect Mono, and took a 3 day course of Amoxicillin (10 pills) and developed no rash, can I pretty much rule out mono? Some sources state 80-90% of those taking Amoxicillin with Mono develop the rash, while I've even seen 99% as a percentage. I actually want it to be Mono, instead of something worse, but I'm starting to fear the worst. Have any of you had Mono, been misdiagnosed with Strep and took Amoxicillin, and NOT get the rash?

My 10 month old son is being treated for an ear infection with amoxicillin. He has pre-existing eczema on his face and when the rash developed a rash all over his body on day 4 of antibiotic use, I thought it was more eczema. The rash improved for a few says (but did not go away) but has now worsened (day 8). I decided, with agreement from doc, to keep him on amoxicillin to complete the course rather than introduce a new antibiotic.
Took amoxicillin on two occasions prior to oral surgery for implants and ended up in the ER with fever, profuse sweating, weakness, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration, no rash. I've never had reactions to amoxicillin in the past. In February, I went to an allergist to rule out any allergies. The blood work he had performed revealed elevated liver enzymes.
I was diagnosed with mono over 1 month ago. They had me on amoxicillin and they claimed that is what caused my skin rash. Since then my hands have peeled. They are very dry and I have continued to get small pimple like bumps on my hands in the joints and arms. They don't itch... I also have hard red knots under some joints which are somewhat tender. They told me that this stuff would dissapear in a week, it's been over a month and still coming! Any ideas?
Does anyone know how long the cross reaction rash developed by using Amoxicillin while infected with Mono last? My 6 yr old daughter was diagnosed with strep throat and was given Amoxicillin..turns out it wasn't strep and in fact it was Mono. Now she has this horrible itchy rash covering her entire body. I would really like to find out how long it last.
Just in case, I was taken off the Amoxicillin but the rash keeps increasing. The rash started as small tiny red dots across my abdomen and has spread. It is profuse on my knees, lower back, stomach, and very bad on my arms. The tiny red spots grew larger to now where on my arms it's a solid red mass, in other spots they almost look like rings as you can see in the photo. The skin is slightly raised, somewhat itches, and feels like a sunburn that burns and is hot to the touch.
These are all places where I had not previously had rashes, and these were more itchy, and became progressively moreso throughout the day. I read that amoxicillin can cause rash in people who have mono, and was concerned that I didn't really have strep (or that I had both strep and mono). I went again to the second doctor, who was a bit perplexed, but said that I couldn't have mono, and that if I was reacting to the amoxicillin I would have a swollen mouth as well.
Doctor did a CBC and told me that I was negative for mono, said I didn't have strep (although I'm not sure where this came from, she did not perform a swab test), and that it was probably a virus and the rash should disappear in the next day or two. The rash improved a bit, but began prickling in the heat/sun the next day, and spread to my thighs.
I was diagnosed with Strep Throat on a Monday and was given Amoxicillin. Thursday night I started to have small bumps on my chest and shoulders. Friday the bumps turned red. By Saturday they were bright red and covered my whole body except for my face, palms, feet, and under my breasts. They never became itchy. I discontinued the amoxicillin on Saturday. I went to the Dr. again on Monday and was tested for mono which returned negative. It has been over a month since this happened to me.
He was also diagnosed with Viral Hepatitis, which he was told was due to the mono. This had nothing to do with the Amoxicillin. He was told that there was nothing they could do for him, all he could do was rest. He went for repeat blood work on Tuesday, Nov 25. His liver levels were still increased and his bilirubin was now 8.9. When he called to get the results all he was told was that his white blood count was elevated which indicated infection. He was offered no further advise.

Had severe reaction to Amoxicillin. Hives/rash progressed from a lesser rash. Extreme weakness partially attributed to mono. I was informed that the allergy to PCN does occur oddly enough when one has mono and take the Amoxicillin. Then I had the joint pain after a week in the hospital. It was a migrating arthritis that sometime occurs with the drug reaction to Penicillin. Could you have had Mono? I do have Arthritis years later but ostoarthritis now. Good luck.
I also got full rash, but I think it was becuase I was prescribed amoxicillin before they thought it was Mono, which causes a rash in 90% of people who do that. I visited my brother at school two months earlier when he currently had Mono as well. I am just really paranoid that I contracted HIV from the oral sex from this girl who I know is a ****. It has been almost two years and I have been worried since. Does anybody have any advice?
then i mention two years ago my son got very sick tired sore throut and his sickness would not go away so a doctor gave him amox and he brock out into a rash i took him to hissdoctor who said he has mono, when you have mono and take this antibiotic you get a very distinctive rash, so we did blood work and sure enought it was mono. this rash is different then the allergic reaction from amozicillin rash.
The dr said that he has some tissue and his thyroid is alittle big. What my question is has anyone every heard of losing your voice, having the mono rash and occassionally a sore throat? He can barely talk above a whisper. His ENT dr wants him to take speech therapy, but his voice comes back for a little while. He has been like this for 5 weeks now. Can anyone help with what maybe going on?
* a sore throat*, which is often described as the worst sore throat the child has ever had * a high fever* * enlarged lymph nodes or glands in the neck*, armpit, or groin * malaise and fatigue* (not feeling well and feeling tired) * anorexia (loss of appetite) * muscle aches * a rash, especially if your child was taking antibiotics, like ampicillin or amoxicillin * a headache * nausea * abdominal pain * joint pain (*classic symptoms of mono)
They figured out my brother had mono that way, they thought it was an infection, he took amoxicillin abs broke out in a rash.
Certain antibiotics (amoxicillin and some others Im not quite sure of) given to a patient with mono can cause a rash and fever. Definitely you should see someone ASAP, but this is what happened to me just two weeks ago. Best of luck, I hope you are feeling better soon.
I went to the doctor, he said it was strep (didn’t test me, however), gave me a prescription for amoxicillin and sent me on my way. I felt ok, but not great on amoxicillin and toward the end of the amoxicillin, my tonsils became inflamed and I developed a fever. My primary care doctor quickly prescribed me clarithromycin and referred me to an ENT. A few days later, she did full blood work and throat culture. She was pretty sure it was viral so she told me to stop the clarithromycin.
Could this be mono? Could this be Hepatitis a b or c? I heard that mono sometimes effects the liverand the spleen, so can it display symptoms of Hepatits?
I am 23 years old and uncircumcised. About 5 weeks ago, I noticed a sort of rash on my penis including the head and shaft. It did not itch, but I noticed small red bumps. After showering, the rash was gone by the morning. Then about a week later, I washed my penis vigorously with soap (coast). Within the next few days, my penis became irritated and developed a small red "rash" around the tip of the penis. This turned into irritation.
Three days later I had no appetite (lasted 10 days), a fever (lasted 4-5 days), sore throat (lasted about 7 days), diarrhea, and a sinus infection. I was put on amoxicillin for the sinus infection which helped, but never fully cleared it up. About 3 weeks after the exposure- I had lost 12 pounds, I had bloodshot eyes, diarrhea, eye floaters, and the sinus infection had come back. Also a small rash on my arm (2-inch in diameter).
