If I suspect Mono, and took a 3 day course of Amoxicillin (10 pills) and developed no rash, can I pretty much rule out mono?
Some sources state 80-90% of those taking Amoxicillin with Mono develop the rash, while I've even seen 99% as a percentage.
I actually want it to be Mono, instead of something worse, but I'm starting to fear the worst.
Have any of you had Mono, been misdiagnosed with Strep and took Amoxicillin, and NOT get the rash?
This sounds like it has 100% to do with the Amoxicillin, and not Mono combined with Amoxicillin and so forth.
Amoxicillin can cause joint pain although this is not a common side effect, but can occur and should NOT be permanent, but temporary.
If this hasn't subsided, this definitely needs to be further investigated by your physician.
She said I could possibly have mono but we would wait and see what the amoxicillin did. My symptoms went away. Then a few days later I woke up with a terrible red rash all over my body. I looked on Google again and sure enough the acute HIV popped back up. When I went back to the doctor again he ordered a kono test and a CBC test. He said the blood count was absolutely perfect.
I was tested for strep and mono. Strep came back positive (Strep C) and negative for mono. I was prescribed amoxicillin and was feeling much better on day 3 until I developed a horrible yeast infection. I was then prescribed the one dose of fluconazole and the yeast infection was cleared. My original symptoms were gone so I didn't bother taking the rest of the antibiotic. (I know, my fault).

I'm a 20 year old female concerned about catching something after having a man (of unknown status) ejaculate in my mouth twice.
Five days after, I woke up with a swollen/sore throat and red, sunburn-like rash covering my groin, buttocks, breasts & surrounding area, but it didn't itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms.
She tested for strep (to make sure it was gone, if it was ever there) and mono. Strep negative, Mono test came back negative but she said it showed "faint" whatever that means. She diagnosed it as a reaction to the Amoxicillin, prescribed steroids, which have pretty much knocked them out. Here's the odd thing, there are still white spots on my tonsils, however I feel totally normal! No fatigue, no headache, no fever. What is going on with me??
Came in looked at my tonsils amd said it was strep no swab or bloodwork done. So I was given amoxicillin and 800 Ibuprofen. But towards the end of my presrciption i started getting a itchy rash on my arms and hands. It was red all over my hands with tiny bumps. Any answers are appreciated.
Also i never developed the flu or cold symptoms and never felt drained or fatigued as at the time i had a very physical job and was still able to peform. Just the throat issues.
The dr said that he has some tissue and his thyroid is alittle big. What my question is has anyone every heard of losing your voice, having the mono rash and occassionally a sore throat? He can barely talk above a whisper. His ENT dr wants him to take speech therapy, but his voice comes back for a little while. He has been like this for 5 weeks now. Can anyone help with what maybe going on?
ve had throat pain for almost 3 weeks now, and ive been tested positive for strep, taken amoxicillin (875 mg), and been back to the doctor very recently. They did a blood test on me to see if its mono and a throat culture as well. Results for that coming back on Monday. I am just curious as to what you all are thinking on what this is? I finished the antibiotics last week on Monday.
Went to the ER was diagnosed with strep and was prescribed amoxicillin. I noticed the white spots when i felt my tonsils swelling but it wasnt bad and i was thinking maybe its a bad sore throat but when the pain came the white spots spread. But as i was on amoxi i broke out in a rash towards the end of the prescription. The dr. Didnt swab my my throat just looked and said strep.
So, I've had mono for over a month now. I originally got a reaction from being prescribed amoxicillin but that was just the first week. About over a week ago, I ended up getting another rash. However, it seemed to be my normal allergic reaction to tomatoes, since I had eaten some the week before that. The rash only cleared up (but not completely) a couple days ago. The redness and itchiness was gone however the skin where it had been still felt slightly raised, just now skin tone.

In early March he developed a fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. He saw a doctor and strep throat and mono were ruled out as a cause. The doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 days. He felt fine after a couple of days and all was well. But about two weeks later the same symptoms returned (w/ a fever of 101.6) and the doctors ruled out strep and mono once again and put him on the same medication regimen. Could his symptoms possibly stem from a tooth abscess??
I took tests for both strep throat and mono and they both came back negative. I was prescribed a Z-pack and I threw it up so I was prescribed me Amoxicillin (10 days; 875 mg tablet - 2 times a day) and the pain went away. Two days after I stopped the antibiotics the pain returned. I went back to the doctor they said it might be an abcess and if the pain got worse I would have to go the the ER to get it drained and they prescribed me amoxicillin (500 milligrams - 3 times a day).
In December of 2009, the hair loss occurred along with symptoms of shortness of breath, bloating, vomiting, night sweats, mild-moderate fever, shaking chills, painful bloodshot eyes with tint of gray/yellow in the corners, eye twitching, neck stiffness and pain, abdominal pain and swelling, muscle cramps, weight loss, and bad reactions to antibiotics.
After which, I went to the urgent care doctor and they completed a strep rapid test, which came back negative. Therefore, I was sent home with some amoxicillin, which did nothing.
Two days later a had a mild fever and lymph tissues in my neck for slightly swollen, however, it was very short lived. Two weeks later, the pressure is my neck was still there. On labor day, I had to drive to the ER at 3am in the morning because I was having problems breathing when I would lay down.

feeling run down, as well as having a Loss of Appetite Sounds like Strep Throat or Mono, but did you have a Sore Throat or Fever at any point?? Taking Antibiotics, like Penicillin/Amoxicillin would've Helped if it was Strep, & IF it was Strep w/in 24hrs of starting Antibiotics you're no longer Confessors. I actually just learned all about Strep, bc about 1.
I had an extremely bad cold which led to a sinus infection and strep throat which i took amoxicillin for which seemed to clear up the infection however. I noticed my lymph node in my neck and tonsil on the same side are still swollen and its been about 2 months now. There is no pain either. I was just wondering if it is normal for lymph nodes and a tonsil to stay swollen for that long? I've tried gargling warm salt water and that doesn't seem to help either.

I'm new here, just diagnosed with Lyme today. I kind of don't believe it though, just because I've read about other things that can cause a false positive test, and I do have one of those things. Also I don't trust my lab b/c they said my mono test was negative, but I've had mono before so I know it should have been positive....

I was prescribed amoxicillin and I got better. Then, when I had just one dose left of the amoxicillin, I started to get sick again and they gave me the zpack (I've had problems before with recurrent strep). This one turned out to be a virus, but a week later I was still running a fever and went to the doctor.
They didnt do a strep test but diagnosed me with strep and gave me amoxicillin. The next day I started breaking out in hives called the dr. and they said it sounds like i was alergic and to stop taking it.they sent domething else over and they continued getting worse. I went back to the dr and the did a blood test and it came back positive for mono....
By weds I could barely swallow spit. My Dr. Prescribed Amoxicillin 875 mg and a shot of rocephin followed that Friday when I was feeling no relief yet. Its now 5 days since starting amoxicillin and the throat opening hurts less but my appetite is totally gone and the tonsil actually seems bigger but less red. and it continuously puts out pus. it is not swollen past a midline but it is rather puffy and doeant resemble a tonsil.
also I started having pain in testies and after getting off. I had a negitive strep and mono spot test, but too ammox just in case. it went away in about 3 days,but have had a sore throat for 3 months and swollen tonsils and glands and SOB or at least pressure in chest area that comes and goes. also I get these red blood spots on the inside of my cheeks. they will be there for a few days then there gone and come back. seem to always be gone when I go to docs.
I have been to multiple doctors and clinics and have been tested repeatedly for all of the major infections (Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV, HEP A/B/C) as well as numerous tests for potential non-STD related causes (Thyroid, Liver, Kidney, parasites, Lyme disease, Mono, Lupus, and inflammation). Everything so far has come back negative.
During this time I have tried taking numerous, heavy doses of various antibiotics, such as Azithromycin / Clarithromycin, Cipro and Amoxicillin.
So yesterday I went to the Dr for an ear infection and the Dr said it was pretty bad. He prescribed me amoxicillin 500mg 3 times a day for 10 days. He said it was safe but I am scared. I have called and left a message for my drs assistant. Waiting for a call back. Have any of you had to take this in this dossage?
