I had amoxicillin prescribed for a pain that I had in the crown that was placed after the root canal treatment. I've been taking this medication for 6 days now and my urine smells exactly like the pill tastes. Is this something normal or should I go to the doctor?
Usually we prescribe amoxicillin or penicillin for oral infections. You may want to call your doctor and ask for a prescription and see whats recommended for you, especially if you are sensitive or allergic to particular antibiotics.
I tried orajel but it does not help even in the slightest, the pain persists even if put inside the tooth. Ibuprofen and tylenol also do not help at all.
I had an infected tooth pulled on Wednesday of this week. Been taking Amoxicillin for 10 days prior, before that Keflex, just couldn't get rid of the infection. Dentist didn't want to do root canal, so the extraction was planned. I told him when I got there that I felt that the infection was still there. He told me that it was still infected as he could tell when he injected the pain meds.
How long after starting amoxicillin before the pain from a tooth infection goes away? I saw the dentist and started taking amoxicillin about 30 hours ago. I have a root canal scheduled a week from now. But the pain is as intense as it was prior to starting the treatment. I do have type II diabetes treated with diet and pills. I know this can prolong infections. But wow, I sure would like the pain to decrease. I'm taking vicodin and it still hurts! Thanks!
Hello, A dental examination is necessary for correct diagnosis and management of your condition. A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.

I have never had a tooth abscess until now. I called my dentist and they are trying to help me to keep cost down bc I have no insurance and xmas is right around corner so money is tight. I have a back molar that broke about 3 months ago ive been trying to save up for root canal but now I think I will need it pulled. The tooth stopped hurting and then I got the pus pocket under it that would flare up but then go down.

Hello, So now that the pain (after taking tylenol) is worse in either my gum or tooth what should I do? I've felt with this for a few days but tonight its hurting to the extreme. I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant.
it knocked out my last flare up quite well. It is great for nerve pain, especially TN. I took 13 days of Amoxicillin to get rid of the infection, and it should have taken care of it, but it got way up in the bone; hurt all the way up to the side of my nose. I'm just hoping it didn't get in too deep, and is festering away somewhere. My sister got real sick in a similar situation, but she has a heart condition that I don't.
July 8th I had the filling redone and took 4 more. I told her I still had a lot of pain and swelling with the root canal tooth. She prescribed 875mg of amoxicillin for 10 days. Took the last one yesterday and a lot of the swelling is gone but it is still swollen and I have dull constant pain. Is the antibiotic just not working or is something more serious going on?
He said that I would need to eventually have a root canal done on the tooth, and for now to deal with the pain he would give me 1 tablet 3x a day (Diclac 50mg), which is doing nothing at all. I can still feel the severe pain. I have been on the tablets for the first day now. I am also on antibiotics but it's doing nothing. I am on Clonomox 250mg, its apparently another type of amoxicillin? He has given me a 5 day course of it.
I recently ruptured my eardrum. Was on 10 days of amoxicillin. While taking the antibiotics my teeth became sore on the same side as the ruptured eardrum. My question is I've had pain in my ear jaw area before the rupture. Could my teeth being sore be a possible absess. I have a dentist appointment in a couple of weeks to have them checked. And also if it is an absess was the antibiotics I've taken last long enough to keep the absess at bay until I see the dentist.
He said the x-ray showed no infection in the tooth and no decay. He prescribed me amoxicillin (500 mg, 3x per day for 6 days, and a refill if necessary. He said if the pain doesn't go away then I might need a root canal or have the tooth pulled anyway. I'm skeptical and asking for advice here because I had a terrible root canal experience on the other side of my mouth about two months ago and the tooth ended up being pulled after a week of excruciating pain.
I went to the dentist about a year ago and they did pull a wisdom tooth on the same side on top. The dentist said the other tooth was too bad to fix. I had chiped it and it just kept getting worse and getting a bad cavity in it. He tried to pull it but it hurt too bad. He kept giving me shot after shot and it would not relieve the pain or numb me to get it out. He said I might have an infection so prescribed me amoxicillin and told me to return it ten days.
We all seem to think about the negative connotations and that somehow, it's our fault for having an infection in a tooth and that we should feel shame. Not so. Be proud of yourself that you took care of a problem and will continue to do so. It's really no different than any other infection. As my MIL used to say, "This too shall pass.", and you know what? It will. Hang in there and please let us know how you are doing. It's always great to hear a success story!
My husband has been complaining of tooth pain since the end of last year. In early March he developed a fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. He saw a doctor and strep throat and mono were ruled out as a cause. The doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 days. He felt fine after a couple of days and all was well. But about two weeks later the same symptoms returned (w/ a fever of 101.
This morning my tooth had a little pain, before you knew it ,It became abscessed.Saw Dr. started taking Ampicilin .I have a problem, I am driving to Oragan from Arizona to see my sister.I need to take her to Reno.Would take me about 10 to 11 days,My dentist is there.Should I continue taking ampicilin? Why did the doctor in Arizona not give me penicilin instead? The pain is low taking Naproxen.
Is it normal for me to still be in pain? Should I be concerned? What can I do for the pain, as my dentist seems unwilling to prescribe pain medication.
An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
OK. the saga of my mouth continues About 11 days ago, I had my No. 1 wisdom tooth pulled. It had a pretty nasty cavity I had let progress for awhile before I got it pulled. So much so, the lymph node on the opposite side of my head near my jawline swelled up and stayed swelled until I had the tooth pulled. (It went down almost immediately afterwards.) I had some complications, which the Dr.
