Common Questions and Answers about Amoxicillin for ear infection in babies

amoxil

When my daughter was about 11 months old, she was given amoxicillin for an ear infection. She broke out in a red rash all over her body. We took her to the doctor, and they changed the medicine and told me she was allergic to amoxicillin. She cleared up a week or so later. About 8 months later, I was doing some spring cleaning in my closet where I found mold in the corner. My kids were napping in the other room, so I took everything out and tried to clean up the mess.
My baby is 11 months old. He was on amoxicillin for an ear infection for 7 days. He got a spotty rash all over his body yesterday and today it is everywhere. He is on XYZAL and Zyrtec. How long should this last for? How long will he be itchy for?
Cameron is in the midst of this now, he has been getting them nonstop since December, but not before, so he started later. He was even on Augmentin for a respiratory infection and got an ear infection while on meds. He was also just on Omnicef as the Augmentin is no longer strong enough, for a left ear infection. Both boys were really sick and I took them in, Cam was on day 7 of Omnicef and had RSV last week. We discovered that now both ears were infected and he had influenza A.
I have tried every kind of medication possible during that time until they finally narrowed it down to a bacterial infection in the ear canal. Since then I have tried all kinds of drops for the inside of my ear and oils and creams for the outside. I have a great ENT that I have complete faith in and he has been suctioning out my ears every week for the past six months. Even this does not cure the problem.
Hope all you ladies are doing well...and I cant wait for the ladies who are gonna be O'ng soon to gt back in the TWW, this month is the month!!!!
I've read somewhere (perhaps in Dr Crook's books) about ways besides eating garlic, as in suppository style in a little piece of cheesecloth for easy retrieval, but don't know if the oil would be too irritating to tender membranes. Let us know what you figure out ... and think systemic, not local.
Every article on the internet has to do with Strep B in prenatal women (when it is very dangerous for the baby) and nothing about Strep B for regular women in their 40's like me :) Thanks, I'd love to hear from anyone who has ever been treated for this disease or any doctors out there.
LJ - thanks for your encouraging words. I transferred on Day 3. Went in for a scan today and the doc said the lining looks quite good but he asked me not to test earlier than next tuesday which is 2 weeks and one day after the transfer. I am feeling a bit better after he said that but who knows what the future holds for us. Nicki - you are so right - this 2WW is the worst AND i find myself crying so often. And I am a tough kinda gal so its a new thing to me.
As you know I am suffering this for almost 2 years now. This appeared out of the blue in June 2012 (I say out of the blue because I don't take drugs, don't smoke, don't have diabetes, didn't have chemotherapy, and didn't take medicines for long periods of time -besides 1 week of cyprofloxacin in March 2012).
Too bad they didn't give you any drops for her ear for pain. There is a Homeopathic version of ear drops by Hylands that you can get from the pharmacy. So, it's non medicated drops for pain. If you are still concerned if they are safe, you can ask a pharmacist to be sure, but you generally find them on the baby isle. If she doesn't show any signs of improvement by say mid day tomorrow, or if the night is just terrible, I'd at least call and see if she should be seen again.
As I mentioned before I saw a neurologist before and he told me I had stress (I know that part of It is stress because I have no idea what is going on with my body or where or what the cause is and It so difficult to live like this) and he said it would go away in 3 weeks but it has been longer and I felt like I have gotten worse and that is why I have not got an EEG done before. So the doctor gave me antibiotic for my bladder infection and just in case I have an ear infection.
I have baby Tylenol I have her a little bit ago so it's probably higher than it is showing me. She has an ear infection, got shots today and has a cold as well, so understandably she is cranky and sick. I'm just not sure if/when she should go and I can't go unless it's 100% necessary.
With all this in mind, i believe strongly the itchy ear, crusty problem is YEAST inFECTION in the ear (but not for all cases). What the doctors say concern me not (i have had serveral okay ear checks since the problem began). Look, your health is in your own hands - take what the docs say with a grain of salt and backup their talk with your own research - you can be as "smart" as they are and you definately know your body better they do.
It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it. The spasm cough causes it all and when it goes away (usually 4 to 5 days) things are relatively normal although a normal cough stays with me for weeks after.
She said it could be a number of things because he has GERD and a double ear infection which is being treated with Amoxicillin. Also he is being treated for his GERD with Carafate and Prevacid! Wednesday night he screamed and screamed and screamed! He wouldnt eat so I gave him pedilite per PED. The next morning within a 2 hour peroid he had diarreah 3x and in the evening once or twice on Thursday, and last night he began eating a little formula...
We get home without incident and its lunch time so I give her some more PB with lunch and then later that day even some with crackers, still nothing. Well I should also mention that she had an ear infection and had also just finished 10 days worth of amoxicillin. The next am 9/23 DD woke up covered in hives, I was terrified! We went to the Ped. and he of course swore that it didn't come from shots and was doubtful about the antibiotics and PB theory.
I was also taking amoxicillin and got sick with an ear infection, which I've since found out that amoxicillin and infections can raise these antibody levels in your blood. Thought I was home free with the next pregnancy...wasn't so. Sorry to go on and on, I just want to help anyone out there that might be facing similar struggles as me. Miscarriages and D&Cs SUCK!!!!!!!
First of all I'd like to say this site has already helped me before I ever got up the nerve to ask for advice or help. My story as quick as I can tell it goes like this; I got ear infection and was prescribed amoxicillin but after a couple days of use I felt faint in the chest and found myself taking deep breaths more often. So my doctor put me on only two pills of z-pack, instantly I had an 2 hr panic attack and my mom gave me a blue xanax. That was not last Wednesday but the Wednesday before.
On a lighter note, I'm on antibiotics for a kidney infection. Does that count? I'm just play'in with you a little bit, Rob.
He spiked a 100.1 temperature for couple nights then we took him to his pediatrician and he does not have any ear infection that he could tell but prescibed him some antibiotics in case he was developing one, but that was about a week ago and he is still crying a lot at night, any ideas.
#1 Vet said, could be shot reaction, or stress from coming to vet, or she has a hernia and vet said she pushed on it quite hard so could be pain Next day chi is not in good shape, called #1 Vet to schedule her for hernia surgery thinking shes in pain and requested pain med for her, #1 Vet said, shes busy for next 2 days, take her to another vet or hosp which opens in 4 hours. that pissed me off!!!
I also read that Serratia-caused meningitis is 80% fatal in most cases. Can you imagine if for some reason my infection spread to my brain? Believe me this happens as I've treated a couple patients in ICU with meningitis caused by chronic sinus infections. Anyone interested in this bacteria can look it up and learn a great deal about it.
I have been eating baby carrots for snack for a couple of days last week. I have chronic yeast in my ears. I had a root canal in December and was just prepped for my crown this month (March '08) on a back molar. I am not in any pain or discomfort from my orange tongue, but I seem to be very parched in the morning when I wake (this is when I have noticed the orange tongue). I thought maybe diabetis. I will check my sugars this weekend.
For now, I take half a hydrocodone for the discomfort every 6 hours, amoxicillin to fight infection, and use a nasal saline wash 5 times a day. I'd say the most annoying part is sleeping with my mouth open. I have a checkup with the doctor one week post surgery. I hope this is helpful!
or Have they been told that birth and labor itself leaves the body in a comprimised state which places you at risk for infection/ virus that could leave you with these types of symptoms. I have been tx with 3 different doctors an infectious disease Dr., A Rheum, and a Neuro Some things are starting to come together but there are still alot of unanswered questions I wish could be answered. Goodluck again to all of you. I think it can take a long period of time to figure things out.
I am also aware that I can't do it all the time, or all in one day. I have found that exercise usually equals pain for me. I do sneak in a yoga video every now and again when I just can't stand the inactivity. Take the time to heal yourself and listen to your body.
For the things crawling out your anus (maybe pinworms). ask your doctor for a prescription for Vermox or Mebendazole(by Rx only). in general, just google MORGELLONS SYNDROME or Morgellons disease and see if it fits you. I do not think you are imagining what you are feeling. That is why I say Morgellons if you cannnot find any other answers. Most doctors do not know of it. Do you have a blacklight? Have you tried looking at your skin with it?
At first if was for 2 nights in a row when we were on holidays. Always at 3 am in the morning. We suspected stress from being away from home and being and on the move a lot during the day visiting family and friends. Being from a remote town and travelling to a city we had eaten a fair amount of junk food like pizza and fish and chips when we first got into town. Since then it has only been once every 3 weeks or so, or at least 5 nights apart.
I have since had the root canal retreated on the tooth that was being blamed for my mouth discomfort. This has resulted in a 100% improvement in the pain and feverish feeling emanating from THAT tooth, but I still have an strange irritating sensation emanating from the implant that extends to the cheek, nostril, and eye above the implant. I have a feeling the implant is the cause of the mouth trouble and wondering if it is the cause of my neurological symptoms as well.
I am trying to get into Mass General- they are supposed to have great neurologists if you are in the North East. I live in New Hampshire. I feel so bad for the woman whose water broke and pray for her and her baby. Did you have muscle pain and weakness? My symptoms didn't start until a couple weeks after the flu shot. Thanks for your post.
