RUBBISH !!! Amoxicillin is the safest antibiotic for cats who do not have an allergy to penicillin - and very few have. Where are you getting your information???

Hey Natasha, welcome to the forum, but no, no, no. While amoxicillin IS used on cats, it's impossible to say how much of a 250mg capsule to give since kitty is much smaller than we are. And besides, you don't know What the lump is or even if it would respond to an antibiotic. Just as a good rule of thumb, never give human meds to kitty. Please give your vet a call on this one.

One way to ensure the cats get the right food is to separate the eating areas for the cats and the dogs. My mother used to have small dogs and a couple of cats. Water was left for all the animals from the same bowl. But, the cat food was placed up on the top of the dryer where the cats could get it but the dogs couldn't reach it if they tried. Sure, the cats nibbled a little bit of the dog food, but instinctively they ate the right food most of the time, so they had the right nutrition.

Hi!! Eve gave you some great advice. I worked for a dog rescue and we actually "cat tested" the dogs, so we knew who was great with cats and who wasn't. I'm sure that if you contact some rescue organizations, they will be able to tell you who's been cat tested. BTW, I think it's awesome that you're going to rescue a dog from a shelter. The dog is a great idea for your dad. It will get him exercising and out of the house.

I ended up being allergic to it myself, so I would say it's possible for animals to be allergic to medications, too. Just one adult human Tramadol made me just as sleepy and had just as slurred speech as the actual opiates. That wasn't even the allergic reaction either.

I have a mixed breed dog and is too noisy and till I know cats and their stool is very harmful for the baby in me. Is it same for the dog? Should i stay away from my dog?

We live in the country and have cats that stay outside. The dogs are fine with them and never chase or bother them. A few months ago I rescued a stray cat that turned out to be pregnant. The dogs are fine with her. When the kittens were 3 mo old I put them outside. For a couple of weeks, things were fine. Then I looked outside and what did I see but a dead kitten in the yard. I knew it had to be the dogs, no blood, probably just shook it.

They have a little dog who they say is incapable of going outside so it just pees and poops all over. The stains are horrible and so is the smell and we had to stay with them for a while. It was disgusting waking up and stepping right into some pee! Couldn't walk barefooted. They refused to use puppy pads so I bought her puppy diapers... They weren't very happy with me lol. If smells get to you, get a mask.

I thought peroxide was safe for animals and have found out it is not. Please do some research on peroxide before using it on your cat.

I had to go through this last fall with three cats so I feel for ya! I was fostering a cat with kittens and she passed on Giardia to my other two cats. So I had three cats with diarhea, not fun! It's hard to say where he could have caught it. My vet said they can even get it from another animal at the vet hospital. Isn't that nice? Be prepared. It could take quite awhile to work it's way through his system. It took a couple of months in our house. I thought it would never end!

My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.

As that would be a very unnatural act, and a bad idea for both dog and human for various reasons, then I would say all manner of infections could result from a practice like that. And possibly viral mutations. Nature abhors the unnatural.

I voted for dogs, but cats are right up there too, in fact, dogs would be favorite A and cats favorite A1. LOL. Dogs are so loyal and loving, cats, on the other hand act like they could care less, but, they give them self away by purring, they are both terrific. I love ALL animals though, my next favorite after doggies and kitties is the horse, I love them, I used to teach riding when I was in high school.

Does anyone know how to or what the ratio would be to take capsules of amoxicillin and other antibiotics and mix with water to administer to kitties?

Because I believe you can do a lot more with a dog, and they are more willing to cheer you up when you are down. I had several dogs and cats over the years, and I loved them all. However, it seemed like my dogs could sense how I felt and tried to cheer me up more than the cats. The cats did make me laugh a lot though. :) It's a hard choice, but I would have to say dogs.

but my vet said it was only feline 2 feline,so really just wanted 2 no if others have had this uri with there cats and how there cats did and if it is true with out a doubt that this is feline 2 feline

I agree with you. Our dogs just seem to know if we're feeling down and are a real comfort. Also read a book about how dogs communicate and saw something interesting. Even though dogs can communicate with other dogs, it's easier for dogs of the same breed to "talk". Don't know if it's true but it sounds interesting. You're right - humans have to make an effort to understand them. Yoda - lol - I bet it suits him.
