Hey! so my situation is i have a pretty bad tooth infection due to a half done root canal and pretty terrible negligence from a dentist. I've had all types of tooth pain but this is probably the worst, This also happens to be in the same location i had surgery to remove a tooth fragment from a root that was left 12 years ago which started to root and cause multiple abscess.
I have a wisdom tooth that is abscessed. I have 250 mg amoxicillin capsules that are not expired from a previous illness. The RX was for me so I am going to use them.
What is the correct dosage for a 41 year old man weighing 210 lbs?

Hi i started with really bad tooth pain and went to the emergency dentist who said its infected and got an abscess. They give me amoxicillin 500mg i started them yesterday teatime then last night my face started to swell up on the right side where the bad tooth is never had this before. Now i look like an hamster what i want to know is how long will it take for the tablets to work i have taken 4 so far. Also most of the pain as gone but still really soar.
The pain lessened but was still noticeable since beginning the antibiotic (amoxicillin). This morning I woke up with the pain mostly gone from the tooth; however, my jaw is now swollen with what feels like a hard lump and is sensitive to being touched.
I am traveling for work and was wondering if I should seek emergency help.
I've been on Amoxicillin for 5 days for a tooth abscess. I went to the dentist for significant facial swelling, and was diagnosed with the abscess. The swelling has gone down, however I now have a pus pocket on my gum above my molars. It's only painful when I touch it, but I can see the swelling under my cheek when I smile. Since I'm already on Amoxicillin, can I pop the abscess using a sterilized needle? It's Friday night, and the dentist won't be in until Monday...

I was able to see a dentist today and after an x-ray he determined extraction would be the best option for me since the decay extends under the bone.
I have a root abscess from a broken tooth on the upper jaw. A week ago I had a severe pain on that tooth and I started taking Amoxicillin 500mg as my dentist prescribed in case of infection when he opened it to clean the roots.The next day the part next to my nose got swollen but the pain has gone.After 5 days on Amoxicillin the swell is not visible but I can feel it when I open my mouth. The thing that get me worried is that slight pressure feeling on my cheek and the upper eyelid.
I am wondering if a side effect from a long term abscessed tooth can be blood in his semen. A doctor put him on Amoxicillin 1500mg every 8 hours for 6 doses then 500mg every 8 hours for 14 days.
Is this proper treatment?

Any bacterial infection can lead to collection of pus in the tooth can cause tooth abscess. A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. The usually preferred antibiotics are amoxicillin, clindamycin, penicillins and metrogyl.Azithromycin may raise serum methadone levels and/or increase the effects of methadone. This past Wednesday I had to have a tooth pulled due to it having an infected abscess pressing on the nerve (super painful!), and I was given amoxicillin to fight the rest of the infection. Well, being pregnant, they didn't prescribe any type of pain meds, which I'm fine with, but to add to dealing with the pain, the amoxicillin gave me a yeast infection! So here I am, 30 weeks pregnant, mouth still aching, and a yeast infection to top it all off. This has not been my week at all!

They say that they don't have the proper tools to drain abscesses, that they can make the infection worse. For the third time in a month, the abscess is back! I can't believe it! I did a round of Keflex, a 6 day round of amoxicillin, and this last time, a 6 day round of clindamycin (not sure if I spelled that right but I'm sure you know what I mean).
Hi, I had a dental abscess in February last year on one of my front bottom teeth which was treated with a root canal and antbiotics. It seemed ok but about 2 months ago a small hole appeared on the gum in front of this teeth which sporadically leaks pus and the tooth feels sore now and then (with varying intesity of pain). My dentist has prescribed 2 courses of amoxicillin now but this has not fixed the problem. Any advice on what I should do now?
They are somewhat the same, at least amoxicillin derived from penicillin. Amoxicillin though is more powerful and wider range type of antibiotic.
Hi I have large extremely painful abscess causing severe pain and swelling in gum, jawbone and neck. This is from a tooth diagnosed with internal root asorption. I've been taking anitbiotics for 5 days with no relief. I'm scheduled to see new specialist in 5 days, the first available appointment so I'm officially under nobody's care. Is this a dangerous situation and do I need to do something ASAP instead of waiting for my appointment?
