I typically take 2 grams of amoxicillin before all dental procedures (and some medical ones, too) due to Mitral Valve Prolapse with regurgition and a PFO in the heart.
I am currently taking a round of amoxicillin for another problem (strep throat, 2 pills twice a day for 10 days.) These will be finished on this Friday.
I postponed my regularly scheduled teeth cleaning/check-up, because it was only a few weeks away. I re-scheduled it for one month from the end of this amoxicillin treatment.

Amoxicillin in the preferred antibiotic in dental infections. The usual adult dosage is 500 mg given every 6-8 hrly.The dosage may be increased or decreased depending on the severity of infection. If you are having a dental infection or cavity it is best to get it treated by a root canal before the problem aggravates. See a dentist.

Amoxicillin is fine if it's the correct antibiotic. Dental infections can be from either an aerobic bacteria or anaerobic bacteria. Having the correct antibiotic is VERY important.
I urge you to at least call your dentist for approval before you treat a dental abscess yourself.
Amoxicillin may be fine, but you may need something like clindamycin instead.
Also, it's very important that a FULL dose is taken for dental infections.
THEY ENDED UP PULLING THE TOOTH SO HE DID NOT TAKE ALL THE MEDICATION. IT IS 500 MG. WAS WONDERING IF THAT IS TOO HIGH OF A DOSAGE FOR ME TO TAKE?
I went to the dentist 3 days ago she said there is nothing they can do until i finish antibiotic treatment so she prescribed to me 875mg of amoxicillin + 125mg of clavulanate EVERY 8 HOURS. I pretty much been in extreme tooth pain and to add to that every time i take this i get pretty bad stomach pain i describe it as the empty feeling you have when you don't eat anything but x10, so i did some searching and i could not find anywhere saying 875mg every 8 hours i only saw every 12 hours.
Hello, are you sure you are taking the right dosage of amoxicillin and it's frequency? Infections may re-occur if the correct dosage and frequency is not followed. Try to visit again your dentist to have a right assessment of the situation.
He also prescribed me amoxicillin, so that I can take it on 6th day if I do not get better. When I feel sick on 1st day, I had very high fever and followed by sore throat. I had fever entire time during first three days. Now I still have fever and sore throat, but two times in the day. It goes away for 8 hours after I take 2 tynenol, 1 mucin and 2 Echinacea and 1 amoxicillin. I get fever and dry cough back and I take the medicine again for another 8 hours relief.

I went to the hospital since my dentist is not available on weekends and I found out I have a dental abscess. I am in a lot of pain and I have been taking amoxicillin and tyenol. Is amoxicillin safe? I know the doctor wouldn't prescribe it if it wasn't but I still feel paranoid. And how much tyenol can you take in a day, I'm taking regular strength.

Mine started 2 days ago ob said to take amoxicillin. I hate the dentist and worried this is going to harm my baby. My current dentist wont do xrays. The pains better with the antibiotics but they will only do ao much. I might need a root canal.anyone else have dental work done when pregnant?
