Avatar f tn My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.
Avatar n tn Can you open a capsule with amoxicillin or ciproflaxin and mix water with it and give it to a kitty with an upper respiratory. Or can you sprinkle it on some canned food?
Avatar f tn RUBBISH !!! Amoxicillin is the safest antibiotic for cats who do not have an allergy to penicillin - and very few have. Where are you getting your information???
Avatar m tn Hey Natasha, welcome to the forum, but no, no, no. While amoxicillin IS used on cats, it's impossible to say how much of a 250mg capsule to give since kitty is much smaller than we are. And besides, you don't know What the lump is or even if it would respond to an antibiotic. Just as a good rule of thumb, never give human meds to kitty. Please give your vet a call on this one.
Avatar n tn A child who takes 5 ml of the 250mg/5ml dose, for example, is receiving 250 mg of amoxicillin. The recommended pediatric dosage varies from 25 mg/kg per day to 45 mg/kg per day, depending on the underlying infection, according to Rx List. The suspension should be shaken well and measured with a marked measuring spoon to ensure that the right dose is given. Regular silverware should not be used to measure medication doses, warns Drugs.com.
Avatar f tn I just got done with a prescription for 875 mg of amoxicillin twice a day for 10 days. Will that cure chlamydia and gonorrhea??
Avatar n tn I gave my cat amoxicillin and she started drooling instantly. I was foamy and clear and lasted for about 2 minutes. Is this normal or is it an allergic reaction?
Avatar m tn but alot of care must be taken when using meds for cats....is it amoxicillin you have? just incase I am sending you the site and the recommended dosage for cats, if you don't have enough to use for the recommended time week-10days than it will just cause a suspected infection to grow even stronger and possibly antibiotic resistant. so if you are going to do this you must have a good supply. or please take this kitty in where it can be cared for and not suffer. http://www.drugs.
Avatar m tn I have been giving them amoxicillin through their moms because they are too young to eat it through food. I cant afford to go to the vet and get the amoxicillin through them its about 10 times the price. Can someone please give me any advice? someone who maybe has dealt with this before? is there an eye drop I can buy? I have been giving them the medicine for over a week and its only gotten worse now my momma cats have it.
Avatar f tn So yesterday I went to the Dr for an ear infection and the Dr said it was pretty bad. He prescribed me amoxicillin 500mg 3 times a day for 10 days. He said it was safe but I am scared. I have called and left a message for my drs assistant. Waiting for a call back. Have any of you had to take this in this dossage?
Avatar n tn Hi there, Amoxicillin in the preferred antibiotic in dental infections. The usual adult dosage is 500 mg given every 6-8 hrly. The dosage may be increased or decreased depending on the severity of infection. If you are having a dental infection or cavity it is best to get it treated by a root canal before the problem aggravates. See a dentist. Take care and regards!
Avatar m tn I had to have a root canal redone as my previous dentist did not get the whole nerve and it became infected. The Dentist put me on amoxicillin 875mg twice a day, after 6 days I called him as it was having no effect. he then put me on clyndamycin 300mg twice a day, this is day two, it seemed better this morning and by this afternoon it isswelling slightly the tissue above my tooth is spongie again and I can tell it's filling with pus.
Avatar f tn Today I took my 15 month old son to one of his regular checkups. His doctor had noticed some fluid in his left ear and said he had a small infection. I told her he had a cold and some congestion but I didn't know about his ear. She prescribed him Amoxicillin for his ear and told me something about the dosage. All I remember her saying is something about 1 tsp.
676912 tn?1332812551 The specific effects of an amoxicillin overdose will vary, depending on a number of factors, including the amoxicillin dosage and whether it was taken with any other medications or substances. Effects of an Amoxicillin Overdose A mild amoxicillin overdose probably will not cause any significant or lasting problems. However, a large overdose could affect the kidneys, possibly causing poor kidney function or even kidney failure.
Avatar n tn Amoxicillin is fine if it's the correct antibiotic. Dental infections can be from either an aerobic bacteria or anaerobic bacteria. Having the correct antibiotic is VERY important. I urge you to at least call your dentist for approval before you treat a dental abscess yourself. Amoxicillin may be fine, but you may need something like clindamycin instead. Also, it's very important that a FULL dose is taken for dental infections.
Avatar f tn my daughter tends to break out at random (she is 2) but the rashes / hives goes away after a couple of hours. We still have no idea what the allergy is. Now she was diagnosed with an ear infection yesterday, she didn't see her normal doctor because her normal doctor was out of town, which is fine, I know the other doctor. the doctor gave her amoxicillin for her ear infection.
Avatar f tn HI, WOW.....back again???? Are you talking about the same kitten that had diarrhea so bad before? I hope that has cleared up!! About the kitten's paw-do you have any idea what happened to it? If I were you, I would keep the litter box super clean, like more than twice a day scoop it out. The litter box staying super clean will help to heal her paw and prevent her reinfecting it. I honestly have no idea if amoxicillin is safe for a kitten. You can probably find this info on-line.
Avatar m tn I went to the dentist 3 days ago she said there is nothing they can do until i finish antibiotic treatment so she prescribed to me 875mg of amoxicillin + 125mg of clavulanate EVERY 8 HOURS. I pretty much been in extreme tooth pain and to add to that every time i take this i get pretty bad stomach pain i describe it as the empty feeling you have when you don't eat anything but x10, so i did some searching and i could not find anywhere saying 875mg every 8 hours i only saw every 12 hours.
Avatar f tn The vet gave me tetracycline powder for my cats, they are about 4 months old an are barn cats. The have the sneezies and have snotty noses as well. It doesn't seem to be working. What is the dose that I should be giving each cat? Any suggestions?
4658567 tn?1364142123 Dingycat, Your vet sounds like a money hungry idiot. Vets have always used amoxicillin on cats and mine even told me how to dilute the human kind( same stuff btw) for my cats so I didn't have to pay a fee everytime I needed antibiotics for them. I'd switch vets ASAP.
Avatar f tn You might ask your doctor for a broad-spectrum antibiotic, also known as a 'z-pack': this usually takes care of nearly everything in just a few days.
Avatar f tn So my LLMD has me on the following medications: Amoxicillin, Clindamycin, and Capadex (for my stomach problems). My dosage of the antibiotics are very high and I will be taking it for about 2 months. He believes I may H pyelori as well as Lymes because of my reoccurring ulcers. I am getting a more sensitive test for h Pyelori as well. I am also taking or about to Amrix for muscle pain. Has anyone taken this?
Avatar m tn I cannot tell if they are going down or not. I took him to the vet and i have him on amoxicillin but now he is throwing up, he is still eating however and drinking. He is an indoor cat and i know that they are not from fights or anything. He has been healthy his whole life, but did have a tooth removed last year. Has anyone else expierenced this with their cats? What did you do? And if he lives past this, any ideas for the future?
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know how to or what the ratio would be to take capsules of amoxicillin and other antibiotics and mix with water to administer to kitties?
1566633 tn?1295341269 My sister have 5 cats. They were all doing well for the past 5 months. Unfortunately, 3 of them started to show signs of sickness that started last December 2010. I can say that they weren't improving ever since. We haven't done any intervention yet because we thought it they can recover easily. I am starting to get worried and I don't have any idea what causes this. I want to help them but I don't have enough resources to do this.
