I am deathly allergic to yellow food dye. My amoxicillin capsules are made out of yellow food dye. My pharmasit told me that I open the capsule and take just the powder. The problem is the strong taste of the powder makes me gag.what can I do ?
What I was told was that a certain percentage of people who get Mononucleosis get a rash BUT since I had family members who were allergic to penicillin that I too might just be allergic to penicillin ( as a result I’ve never taken it again) The rash, unfortunately lasted about a month to six weeks, it was awful, I feel for you.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, a member of penicillin, may include anaphylaxis, hives, below-the-skin swelling, or asthma symptoms. Skin testing is the best method for diagnosing a penicillin allergy. If found to be allergic, the main treatment is avoidance of future use of amoxicillin and related antibiotics. Other groups of antibiotics with the same efficacy, may be used to treat the infection.
An allergic reaction to amoxicillin (and then all penicillin based meds would be included) is sudden and intense and can quickly become life threatening.
Rash is listed as a side effect to this antibiotic. Call the doctor but it is highly unlikely that it is an allergic reaction but a side effect. And it doesn't mean your child will get it every time they take amoxicillin or drugs of the penicillin class. good luck!!
A week or so after the crack is swelled up pretty bad. I went to urgent care and the doctor games me 500mg of penicillin 4 times a day. The penicillin knocked out the swelling in a couple days and everything pretty much went back to normal. Last night the area swelled up again and even my law line started swelling. I could feel a large bump in my gum line which I'm guessing was the infection. I was given 875mg of amoxicillin this time when I went to the doctor.
I was prescribed Amoxicillin a couple days ago for strep throat and an ear infection and when I opened the bottle to take it I noticed that it smelled bad. I don't know if it's normal or not so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
In patients allergic to beta-lactams, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), clarithromycin (Biaxin), and azithromycin. So, if you are allergic to the penicillin group your doctor could have prescribed Bactrim for you. Regards.

Iam having a terrible toothache the dentist said it is my wisdom tooth growing below my other tooth.She prescribed penicillin due to infections and I have a fever. I am scared to take it thinking that it may affect my babies. I am pregnant with twins.My first pregnancy ended in m/c at 5 1/2/ months.She said its ok for pregnant women to take.I am still taking my progestorones.

Hi Tony, You need anti-viral meds (zovirax, valtrex, etc) to treat herpes. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic in the penicillin group of drugs. It fights bacteria in your body.
This sounds like it has 100% to do with the Amoxicillin, and not Mono combined with Amoxicillin and so forth.
Amoxicillin can cause joint pain although this is not a common side effect, but can occur and should NOT be permanent, but temporary.
If this hasn't subsided, this definitely needs to be further investigated by your physician.
I had sinus infection and got Amoxicillin for it. Had diarrhea, then a rash all over stomach, back, thighs, then yeast infection. I stopped taking the Amoxicillin and the doctor told my husband I was allergic to Penicillin.
A week later I vomited several times and had cramping (like the stomach flu) and now my forehead has broken out with an itchy ***** rash like poison oak! Could the rash be associated with the Amoxicillin or the Sinus infection?
They are somewhat the same, at least amoxicillin derived from penicillin. Amoxicillin though is more powerful and wider range type of antibiotic.

Thanks for responding to my post. It makes sense that ampicillin, amoxicillin, or any others in the penicillin family could treat syphilis (being that penicillin is the recommended treatment). I only asked for the source of the info because I wanted to know if they were somehow less effective treatments than regular old penicillin. Thanks again!
Amox will not cure syphilis. Only penicillin will at very specific doses.
Syphilis is uncommon, and getting it from oral would be even less likely.
Two negative RPRs means you don't have it, especially if you've never had symptoms.
You can let it go.
i have taken 6000 mg of amoxicilin all in all, i was expecting to have my monthly period but it didtn come, i used p.t. and its positive now i was scared what will the effect of it to my baby 4 weeks now...
Discussion of your concerns with your physician is recommended, including whether or not to continue the antibiotic and whether or not you are having signs of allergy to amoxicillin.
