Amoxicillin and mono

Common Questions and Answers about Amoxicillin and mono

Avatar m tn If I suspect Mono, and took a 3 day course of Amoxicillin (10 pills) and developed no rash, can I pretty much rule out mono? Some sources state 80-90% of those taking Amoxicillin with Mono develop the rash, while I've even seen 99% as a percentage. I actually want it to be Mono, instead of something worse, but I'm starting to fear the worst. Have any of you had Mono, been misdiagnosed with Strep and took Amoxicillin, and NOT get the rash?
Avatar f tn This sounds like it has 100% to do with the Amoxicillin, and not Mono combined with Amoxicillin and so forth. Amoxicillin can cause joint pain although this is not a common side effect, but can occur and should NOT be permanent, but temporary. If this hasn't subsided, this definitely needs to be further investigated by your physician.
Avatar f tn I gave oral sex to a guy about two months ago and I recently started experienceing the symptoms of mono. I have a friend who had mono two years ago and our group tends to drink and share after each other. I also work in the public touching and meeting people everyday. I have kissed two new partner in the past four months, including the oral sex. I have been searching things on Google and that is when I found that it could be acut hiv.
Avatar f tn I was tested for strep and mono. Strep came back positive (Strep C) and negative for mono. I was prescribed amoxicillin and was feeling much better on day 3 until I developed a horrible yeast infection. I was then prescribed the one dose of fluconazole and the yeast infection was cleared. My original symptoms were gone so I didn't bother taking the rest of the antibiotic. (I know, my fault).
Avatar f tn Hey there, I'm a 20 year old female concerned about catching something after having a man (of unknown status) ejaculate in my mouth twice. Five days after, I woke up with a swollen/sore throat and red, sunburn-like rash covering my groin, buttocks, breasts & surrounding area, but it didn't itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn She tested for strep (to make sure it was gone, if it was ever there) and mono. Strep negative, Mono test came back negative but she said it showed "faint" whatever that means. She diagnosed it as a reaction to the Amoxicillin, prescribed steroids, which have pretty much knocked them out. Here's the odd thing, there are still white spots on my tonsils, however I feel totally normal! No fatigue, no headache, no fever. What is going on with me??

Avatar m tn Came in looked at my tonsils amd said it was strep no swab or bloodwork done. So I was given amoxicillin and 800 Ibuprofen. But towards the end of my presrciption i started getting a itchy rash on my arms and hands. It was red all over my hands with tiny bumps. Any answers are appreciated. Also i never developed the flu or cold symptoms and never felt drained or fatigued as at the time i had a very physical job and was still able to peform. Just the throat issues.
Avatar m tn ve had throat pain for almost 3 weeks now, and ive been tested positive for strep, taken amoxicillin (875 mg), and been back to the doctor very recently. They did a blood test on me to see if its mono and a throat culture as well. Results for that coming back on Monday. I am just curious as to what you all are thinking on what this is? Here is a picture of my throat https://gyazo.com/686e6b6ec0850d5bb46d556ea6d1cf49 I finished the antibiotics last week on Monday.
Avatar f tn They said that he had mono from having tonsilitis and taking amoxicillin. They check his thyroid levels and said that everything was normal. They didn't say anything about any nodules. They also didn't say anything about a growth, just that there was some tissue on his thyroid. His ent dr. says that he needs to go to speech therapy, because he is not relaxing his vocal cords, but he can get his voice back sometimes, but then it goes away again.
Avatar f tn Went to the ER was diagnosed with strep and was prescribed amoxicillin. I noticed the white spots when i felt my tonsils swelling but it wasnt bad and i was thinking maybe its a bad sore throat but when the pain came the white spots spread. But as i was on amoxi i broke out in a rash towards the end of the prescription. The dr. Didnt swab my my throat just looked and said strep.
Avatar f tn So, I've had mono for over a month now. I originally got a reaction from being prescribed amoxicillin but that was just the first week. About over a week ago, I ended up getting another rash. However, it seemed to be my normal allergic reaction to tomatoes, since I had eaten some the week before that. The rash only cleared up (but not completely) a couple days ago. The redness and itchiness was gone however the skin where it had been still felt slightly raised, just now skin tone.
Avatar f tn Even tho its on the outside im just cautious on what i do/take cuz we tried so long to have this bby
Avatar f tn In early March he developed a fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. He saw a doctor and strep throat and mono were ruled out as a cause. The doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 days. He felt fine after a couple of days and all was well. But about two weeks later the same symptoms returned (w/ a fever of 101.6) and the doctors ruled out strep and mono once again and put him on the same medication regimen. Could his symptoms possibly stem from a tooth abscess??
Avatar n tn I took tests for both strep throat and mono and they both came back negative. I was prescribed a Z-pack and I threw it up so I was prescribed me Amoxicillin (10 days; 875 mg tablet - 2 times a day) and the pain went away. Two days after I stopped the antibiotics the pain returned. I went back to the doctor they said it might be an abcess and if the pain got worse I would have to go the the ER to get it drained and they prescribed me amoxicillin (500 milligrams - 3 times a day).
Avatar m tn All have come back negative. Had ultrasound of gallbladder and was negative for stones, and had CT of abdomen and pelvis and that came back negative for cirrhosis, fatty liver, however, doctor states traces of autoimmune hepatitis. After a recent 21 day fever (April-May), I tested positive and was finally diagnosed with Infectious mononucleosis (IM), however, my doctor wants to test me for HIV.
Avatar m tn also I started having pain in testies and after getting off. I had a negitive strep and mono spot test, but too ammox just in case. it went away in about 3 days, but have had a sore throat for 3 months and swollen tonsils and glands and SOB or at least pressure in chest area that comes and goes. also I get these red blood spots on the inside of my cheeks. they will be there for a few days then there gone and come back. seem to always be gone when I go to docs.
Avatar n tn My lymph nodes swell, tonsils are infected, fever, white on my tongue, etc however I always test negative for mono and strep). Just in case, I was taken off the Amoxicillin but the rash keeps increasing. The rash started as small tiny red dots across my abdomen and has spread. It is profuse on my knees, lower back, stomach, and very bad on my arms.
1663162 tn?1302923616 Certain antibiotics (amoxicillin and some others Im not quite sure of) given to a patient with mono can cause a rash and fever. Definitely you should see someone ASAP, but this is what happened to me just two weeks ago. Best of luck, I hope you are feeling better soon.
Avatar n tn Strep test came back negative, and I have already had mono before. Assuming it was a sinus infection, they prescribed amoxicillin, and that took care of the symptoms in under a week. About two weeks after being off of the amoxicillin, the symptoms began to return. I went back to the doctor and the prescribed some different antibiotic, which again, worked fine. Yet again, a few weeks after being done with that antibiotic, the symptoms returned.
Avatar m tn During that time I noticed a red bump on my chin and on my cheek, that I accidentally cut while shaving. It got infected. I cut myself again while shaving on a flat skin, yet I noticed another bump that formed. That led to some kind of infection, resulting in multiple lesions. I am washing my face with antibactial soap, applying mupirocin, I haven't shaved. But these bump are starting to look flared and I see scaring. I am also applying hot compressions.
Avatar f tn I had an extremely bad cold which led to a sinus infection and strep throat which i took amoxicillin for which seemed to clear up the infection however. I noticed my lymph node in my neck and tonsil on the same side are still swollen and its been about 2 months now. There is no pain either. I was just wondering if it is normal for lymph nodes and a tonsil to stay swollen for that long? I've tried gargling warm salt water and that doesn't seem to help either.
Avatar n tn Today, nine days after beginning to feel sick, I visited my doctor and was prescribed Amoxicillin 875mg tabs to be taken twice a day for the next ten days. My doctor believes I have a sinus infection, hence the Amoxicillin prescription. I did not mention my unsafe sexual encounter to my doctor and I am not having any outward symptoms of any kind of STD. My question is, can you tell me what if any STD the Amoxicillin would cure if I did contract one from my friend?
Avatar f tn There is no connection between amoxicillin and Hepatitis C. Sorry you relapsed. What treatment were you on?
Avatar f tn m not medically trained) would be to find a Lyme specialist for testing and evaluation of you and your baby. Three weeks of amoxicillin and no other evaluation for coinfections is almost certainly NOT what a Lyme specialist would do. If you need help finding a Lyme doc (casually called by patients Lyme-literate MDs, or LLMDs), let us know. In the meantime, try not to worry.
Avatar n tn I am trying to get my daughter to take Amoxicillin for a throat infection. She won't swallow the capsule. Is it ok to break the pink and blue A45 Amoxicillin capsule in half and mix it in applesauce?
