Amoxicillin and keflex

Common Questions and Answers about Amoxicillin and keflex

Avatar_f_tn I have a kidney infection and in on keflex anti biotic. If they prescribed anti biotic its BC its important, kidney infection can cause pre term labor and it was complicating my pregnancy. I'm 21 weeks out of my first trimester though, if u were really worried u can call you're dr and ask about the risks.
Avatar_n_tn I am about 6 weeks pregnant and my OB/GYN found bacteria in my urine. Prescribed Keflex. I am, however, worried that it may cause harm to the developing fetus, even though, I am aware that Keflex is pregnancy category B. Please advise me regarding the possible side effects of this antibiotic on the fetus. Thank you.
Avatar_f_tn Oh gosh, i took keflex and broke out in lesions all over my hands and feet which are bursted blood vessels which when that happens you have like 8 days to live, they put me on steroids after that and told me to just drink a whole lot of cranberry juice and water so u did and i also took cranberry supplements and that got rid if my uti..
Avatar_n_tn My 15 month old sone has had 2 ear infections and the first time we gave him amoxicillin and nothing happened. Then just 2 weeks ago he had another ear infection so he got amoxicillin again and within six dasy of being on it he broke out in a rash that was all over his body and it looked like welts. So we took him to the emergency room just this past saturday and he said it was an allergic reaction to amoxicillin.
Avatar_n_tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Have a culture and sensitivity test done to find out the correct antibiotic that the infecting organism is sensitive to and taking this medication for the required amount of days may help to clear infection. Amoxicillin and augmentin can cause bowel discomfort and diarrhea. For any antibiotic replace with lactobacillus, which is the normal bacterial flora. Yogurt is a natural lactobacillus supplement. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar_n_tn no, those medications are not the only ones available for staph infection. I am currently on bactrim and doxycycl that the ER dr sent home with me and while at the hospital received 300mg of intravenous antibiotic zyvox. Usually they give you keflex if you are allergic to any of the "cillin" (antibiotics containing the suffix "cillin" antibiotic such as penicillin, amoxicillin, etc.
Avatar_n_tn Usually we prescribe amoxicillin or penicillin for oral infections. You may want to call your doctor and ask for a prescription and see whats recommended for you, especially if you are sensitive or allergic to particular antibiotics.
Avatar_f_tn My bf was diagnosed with ngu and I want to know is taking one of the following ok for treatment .....bactrim ,keflex, or amoxicillin? The reason for this question is he won't be able to make it to the doctors for the z pack this week but he has these antibiotics available. And if so what would his dosage length of treatment be ?
Avatar_m_tn thanks so much for this, I have an anti-biotic issue with the kid I take care of...she keeps getting UTI's and the doc keeps giving her Keflex which is strange, I would think if she keeps getting them with this Keflex, he should change horses...I'm taking her to another doc....if anyone has anything to add, I'd be grateful, meanwhile, thanks so mcuh for well...
Avatar_f_tn If I got up, the symptoms rushed back. I called the dentist and was pulled off of Keflex and put on Amoxicllian. For the pain I was given Percocet. Coinciding with the starting of my antibiotics, was my monthly period which for me is twice as hard as I have endometriosis. I take Percocet for the endometriosis when the pain is unbearrable and I have not had any bad reaction to Percocet fyi. Trumping all of these symptoms, I have had a tightness in my lower left part of my heart.
Avatar_n_tn As a result between the two doctor 's prescribed Cephalexin 500mg, Amoxicillin 500mg, Celebrex 200mg and Lyrica 75mg and he gave her a shot. I am guessing the shot was for pain because the mother is feeling better. Mom decided to take the keflex and celebrex from the 2nd doctor. Her left leg is swollen and she has a lot of pain in the leg and only in part of the leg.
Avatar_n_tn I just read your question about the possible allergic reaction to Keflex. I had previously taken Keflex for mononucleosis at the age of 18 and and other things during my early 20's and never had a problem. A few years later when i was 28 I took it again. I had a terrible reaction. I had very large raised hives that started on the tops of my thighs, inside my arms and up my neck. My eyes were swollen and breathing became a task. I double dosed benendryl and went to ER.
Avatar_n_tn while getting tests for something else, urinalysis showed significant bacteria in my urine. they're doing an additional culture now for more info. i've been on both keflex and amoxicillin in the last month so i'd guess this is resistant to those antibiotics. has anyone had a UTI in late pregnancy (33-34 weeks) and, if so, how were you treated? macrobid seems a common choice but i know its dangerous after 37 weeks.. which seems to be cutting it pretty close here.
Avatar_m_tn Erythromycin, Tetracycline, penicillin ,amoxicillin , introveinous ancef, keflex, etc. I suffer from itchy anus, eyes, flaky scalp, tingling / itch in right foot and my wife seems to always have a yeast infection. Over the course of my life, I have had sex (mostly protected) with 30 or so women. I am educated, middle class, and have never used a prostitute. All of my girlfriends have also been white/ middle class. Can someone help me connect the dots?
Avatar_n_tn I went to my regular general practice doctor and he doubted the connection but put me on Amoxicillin. The swelling went down significantly, but the day the new crown was put on the swelling got a bit worse and the dentist put me on Keflex for a week. Although again the swelling never completly went away, it was much better. Now two weeks after the finishing of Keflex the swelling has returned.
Avatar_n_tn amoxicillin, erythro eye ointment, keflex. But the biggest problem you would run into is calculating the proper dose. For every animal I treat I have to calculate the right dose plus different meds are given different ways - BID, TID, QID., orally, topically, IM. I simply wouldn't recommend using your pet's meds for yourself or the other way around.
Avatar_n_tn But he felt it wasn't an allergic reaction to the amoxil. Now I have a uninary tract infection and the doctor put me on keflex and the itching is starting all over again. Mind you I've only been free of this for a couple of days. Last year the same thing happened with doxicyline and macradantin. Is every antibiotic now going to give me this itchyness? I can't take antihistimines and I am at a total loss of what to do.
Avatar_n_tn my GP told me sinus infections are becoming resistent to Zithromax (I had taken 2 rounds before he gave me Keflex and when no better did the CT and referred me to the ENT). My ENT diagnosis is non allergic rhinitis, too. Rhinocort made me worse. I think. At least no better. Anyway, you're right, it's finding what works. I question those allergy tests - becauase I think most people are allergic to things.
Avatar_n_tn I had a UTI earlier in this pregnancy and they gave me something called Keflex, it cleared me up and I had no side effects. I'm deathly allergic to penicillin so I couldn't have that, but I would definitely go directly to OB as they are specifically trained in the area of prenatal care.
974371_tn?1424656729 Bad day today. More sore and upset stomach, add that to worse dry mouth and throat issues and again producing phlegm. Called the dic who wants me to try and stay on this med. every 6 hours is a problem. Makes me sucker having to get up at 5:30 Am to take a pill and drink a full glass of water. Never this miserable after a root canal before. He said the infection is probably in the bone. Anyone else have these issues? I asked for maybe Keflex but he said this med is better. 7 days of this!!
Avatar_f_tn I had a penicillin challenge test at the urging of my allergist last year and passed it. I have had Amoxicillin since then with no problems. I was wondering if anyone "outgrew" a sulfa allergy? I get UTI's a lot and the drug of choice seems to be some form of sulfa. I have not had sulfa since I was in elementary school (I'm now 40) and had hives when I did take it. Thanks!
Avatar_f_tn Even tho its on the outside im just cautious on what i do/take cuz we tried so long to have this bby
Avatar_f_tn I had an infected tooth pulled on Wednesday of this week. Been taking Amoxicillin for 10 days prior, before that Keflex, just couldn't get rid of the infection. Dentist didn't want to do root canal, so the extraction was planned. I told him when I got there that I felt that the infection was still there. He told me that it was still infected as he could tell when he injected the pain meds.
640719_tn?1277143630 I talked to the pharmacist and they said with my resistance to macrodatin (not sure of spelling) cipro and levaquin and allergy to penicillin, ceftin, and now batrium, not sure what they can do for me :o I can take Keflex but I'm reading that is most likely not to effective in treating UTI's. I'm sure fear is not helping my UTI sensations. How big of trouble may I be in concerning this situation? What can they do? Any input would be grateful.
Avatar_n_tn i called the office this morning and siad the amoxicillin was making me sick and i asked for keflex instead. i heard that keflex is more for skin infections then amoxicillin.
Avatar_f_tn I am an English women living in India. I had urine test and indicated few bacteria present so got antibiotic amoxicillin and doxicillin. The symptoms cleared quickly (although not 100%). However the day after I stopped taking the antibiotic they came back.I was in a rural area at the time and couldnt get correct test so a doctor gave me ampillin and cloxicllin to tide me over. Again some but not full relief.
Avatar_f_tn i am 24 y/o and up untill last 3 months i have never been allergic to anything not food not drugs or anything i have had a surgery in 2008 the doc's placed 3 metal plates in my arm due to a shattered humerous and elbow also have ibs consipation and due to a URI 7 months ago i develop asthma other than that i am healthy run and eat well weight i little up i have a 5 y/o son and work 2 jobs and in nursing school so some stress :) but i have taking solu medrol for my asthma and was allerigic not th
519035_tn?1348279373 Suitable antibiotics include sulfa drugs, amoxicillin, and a variety of cephalosporins. These medications are usually given for about two weeks, but may be given for even longer periods of time. Decongestants, or the short-term use of decongestant nose sprays, can be useful. Acetaminophen and ibuprofen can decrease the pain and headache associated with sinusitis.
Avatar_m_tn I seeked medical attention by this point and the doctor told me i had strep throat so he gave a shot( i dont remember what is was called) and azithromycin 250mg. I waited a week and it wouldnt go away so i went again and this time he gave me amoxicillin and chlorpheniramine which help but only slighty. I ended up going for a third visit and he gave me keflex and singular and once again it helped just slightly with just the throat irritation.
898696_tn?1241803523 I have heard that removing your tonsils cures psoriasis, but could it do the same for folliculitis? or is it possible the Amoxicillin? Please help and give some feedback. Thank you!!
