Amoxicillin and gum infection

Common Questions and Answers about Amoxicillin and gum infection

amoxil

I am being treated for a possible infection with amoxicillin. I have swollen upper gums on the right side. My cheek feels swollen, but doesn't look abnormal. I have no tooth pain. Last week I had a filling replaced and one other filling on the same quandrant (upper right). I have been on the antiobiotics plus paridex for 5 days, but I am not seeing much improvement. The swelling is worse in the morning upon waking.
I took him to the emergency room and they said it may be a reaction to a viral infection and prescribed amoxicillian for 10 days...It has been 6 days and still they are bleeding...What is wrong? He is too young for gum disease, right?
The doctor I went to gave me Amoxicillin, and I've been taking that for about a week, and I've got another weeks worth to take as well. And sure, that'd be fine, but I have this huge problem with it. There's this constant burn in the back of my throat, and whenever I breathe I can taste this awful, awful something. My breath doesn't smell bad, and there's nothing back there, but it's the worst taste I can imagine and it never goes away.
Okay so I have a gum infection around my wisdom tooth, pericoronitis. i've been on antibiotics, amoxicillin for 3 days now and not much has changed. my throat is starting to hurt so im scared the infection is spreading. i dont have dental insurance so i dont want to remove the tooth unless its the last resort. I want to get a operculectomy to remove the gums and hopefully it'll solve the infection. if it comes back, then i will really consider getting the tooth out.
It is now Sunday she is still screaming when we go near her tooth/gums and is bleeding at the touch of the cotton swab Her mother and I are worried and do not know what to do next. She has a follow up with the dentist on Wednesday this week. What should we do? Should the Amoxil be working if it is an infection? If so when will it help her?
Recently i had a pain in tooth and went to the dentist and said that i had to remove a dead tooth but first i had to clear the infection. So he put me on Amoxicillin and after the second day on this medication i woke up to swelling of my cheek and gum. I read about the medication and it said that i might have a possible alergic reaction to it if it causes swelling. So i call my dentist and her puts me on Cephalexin, im guessing because i had an alergic reaction to penicillin.
I had a cleaning and when they were checking my filling in #3 there was apparently a crack and I received an infection. I was put on Amoxicillin and a root canal was performed on June 23, two days later an incision was made in the gum to clean out some of the infection, the next day a small hole was made in the upper gum to try and drain some of the infection. On July 1st I was sent to an oral surgeon who did a panoramic of my face and there was infection the size of a walnut up into my sinus.
4 days after Amoxicillin, pain came back. Started same way, sore Left side throat, red swollen gum around the tooth, hard white bump, ? Fistula - maybe a piece of bone, painful. Made appt w/ Oral Surg, Rx'd more Amoxicillin, which eventually helped swelling go down. At appt., did x-ray, not catscan. He did not see anything wrong. But, on physical exam of the wisdom tooth, thought he found crack in tooth, below gumline.
It seemed ok but about 2 months ago a small hole appeared on the gum in front of this teeth which sporadically leaks pus and the tooth feels sore now and then (with varying intesity of pain). My dentist has prescribed 2 courses of amoxicillin now but this has not fixed the problem. Any advice on what I should do now? I don't want to have the tooth out as it is a front bottom one.
So I had Strep Throat over the weekend. Seen my doctor and he put me on Amoxicillin. My strep cleared up for the most part (the white crap all over my throat). Throat is still sore and have ulcers in a few places around my mouth. Not to worried about that, what does worry me is now my gums are killing me. I cannot even tough them with a brush. No blood as of yet from them. Is this the last of the infection retreating?
The gum over the tooth has been cut off but the pain which started occuring after the gum flap was cut off is still there around the gum that surrounds my tooth and the ear which has been reducing.would there be possibilty of an infection or should i get my tooth extracted to avoid any further complications.I have been prescribed amoxicillin as well but i havent finished the entire dose.would the pain be gone eventually after the amoxicillin or should the tooth be extracted.please advise me.
On the same day crown was fitted pt was diagnosed by primary care physician w viral infection (cold) and bacterial (sinus) infection. Also on same day crown was fitted pt had two moles removed w subsequent skin infection at removal sites (swelling, redness, pus) resolved after about 1-2 wks. Antibiotic was RX by primary care physician for sinus infection only; also during this time both of the pain medications listed above were RX (along w OTC ibuprofen).
(tooth #12) I am eventually getting a dental implant done, but I needed a gum graft done and then once it heals a bone graft done then finally the implant. my question is..... I have heard of some ppl feeling a lot better within days.. I have more pain now then I did the first cpl days? is this normal. I have had to take my prescription for Tylenol #3 every 4 hrs as it was prescribed and also ive been taking motrin in between the pain pills.
I was put on Amoxicillin for 7 days (500 mg every 6 hours) to get rid of the infection, and went in yesterday for my root canal. I told the endodontist performing my procedure that it didn't feel like the infection was completely gone even though I finished my antibiotics. He told me that wasn't a problem and went ahead with my root canal. He sealed it up with a temporary filling and I have to go back in a week for the permenant composite filling.
I also got prescribed oral rinse, I use it twice /day as instructed. and put a layer of salt on my gum of tooth #10 and #9 before I go bed. also, what sympton is the sign that I might need a root canal? my tooth #10 is a very healthy tooth before, no fillings. I really don't want to loss my healthy tooth #9.
If infection is present usually amoxicillin unless allergic to penicillin. If swelling starts and you can not see a dentist go to nearest er for possible antibiotics, the er can not treat you like your dentist can but they can help until your appointment. Hope this helps!
The Amoxicillin is helping, the swelling on the outside is already gone down, only on the gum itself is swollen. I went in today and the Dentist did a 4th x-ray and examined the mouth. He said there is nothing he can see wrong with the teeth on the x-rays. My teeth are a tiny bit sore. He recommends I finish my Amoxicillin (5 more days) and if it hasn't gone away then I need to probably see a endodontist. Any suggestions? Could this just be the abcess from the first tooth not gone yet?
Dear Sir, I have an infection in my gum. It started a couple of days ago and I went straight to the dentist. After two xrays, the dentist told me that it was an infection that has started in the root canal of a tooth that I had removed over 25 years ago and had it replaced with a cap (I think that is what they are called) I have never had any trouble with this tooth at all.
Can the sinus infection cause dizziness and fatigue? Due to the holiday weekend I haven't been able to call my doctor, but after 3 prior visits he's never suggested sinuses to be a cause.
How long after starting amoxicillin before the pain from a tooth infection goes away? I saw the dentist and started taking amoxicillin about 30 hours ago. I have a root canal scheduled a week from now. But the pain is as intense as it was prior to starting the treatment. I do have type II diabetes treated with diet and pills. I know this can prolong infections. But wow, I sure would like the pain to decrease. I'm taking vicodin and it still hurts! Thanks!
Then since my dose of pian meds went down I felt pain in my mouth, and found it to be a tooth and gum abscess, My stomach cramps tooth gum area infected. Went to DDS gave me amoxicillin. I have stomach cramps but my tooth and gum abscess seems to be getting better. Is this normal the stomach cramps ...I did ingest the infection from my mouth....I am thinking the amoxicillin will clear it all up soon its only been 65 hours been taking the amoxicilin... Thx........
My dentist prescribed me 500 mg of amoxicillin every 6 hours for a gum infection. It's been a few days now and Ifeel better and I want to resume my workout schedule. Is strenuous exercise contraindicated when taking amoxicillin? Also, is sun exposure a factor, and if so, how long after you complete the round of antibiotics should you wait before you are able to go back out in the sun?
Will the Rx the ENT gave me get rid of this infection? It is Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium tablets, USP 875mg/125Mg. 20 tablets take ten days two times a day. What do you think? Thank you for I am in desperate need of help and I will have a visit to a dentist in person as well.
Also the sinus infection caused very watery orange discharge from the sinus cavities and flow when I bent my head down. I had a sinus infection and gum infection at the same time. I took Amoxicillin for a week and it all cleared up.
I was placed on Flagyl first, followed by clindamycin. Also in the mix of everything I had a gum infection and was given amoxicillin, which I stopped taking due to getting a yeast infection from it (treated successfully with monistat). Everything considered I’ve had an entire pharmacy prescribed to me. During the week that I was waiting for my boyfriend’s retest, I noticed some yellow discharge. I felt for sure he would test positive again, but felt relieved when he came back fine.
i went to the dentist and he prescribe me some antibiotics such as amoxicillin and ibuprofen and help with the infection and pain. i've been taking it for 4 days now and the infection is still there. the ibuprofen does help with the pain. yesterday, my throat started to hurt pretty badly and i was scared that this meant the infection was spreading. but the pain come and goes. im hoping to just get that tooth extracted but i dont know the cost for just one tooth? i think its impacted.
1 month later, excruciating pain, face swelling. Informed by Dentist, root canal required, but first 1 week of Amoxicillin to cure infection. Infection appeared to be clear, with no adverse affects from antibiotic. Dentist started root canal, but did not complete. Placed medication in cleaned out tooth, and refilled. Prescribed another round of Amoxicillan and Vicoden for pain. Started the Amox again, and took a total of 2 1/2 500 mg Vicoden within a two day period.
I'm going to see my dentist in just over 24 hours, but I am panicking as have read all the horror stories onlne about the infection potentially spreading to the neck and brain. Why would the infection be spreading despite a week on antibiotics (recently really strong ones)? Many thanks in advance. Could really do with some advice.
So, I have had a bad gum infection for about a month. Went to see my dentist shortly after it started, they gave me Amoxicillin every 8 hours for 4 weeks. I've been taking it for three weeks now, and it doesn't seem to really have helped at all. The pain has gotten a little better, but the spot is still draining puss slightly and the same size. Another part of my mouth nearby is getting tender too.
As stated previously I was swab tested for Chla Gon and Herpes and also urine tested for Chla and Gon also bloods for HIV Syph and HepB (although this was at 3 weeks post exposure-so blood tests not conclusive) I am booked for repeat suite of tests at 100 days post exposure to put things to bed so to speak.
