Amoxicillin and gonorrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Amoxicillin and gonorrhea

amoxil

Avatar n tn t result in gonorrhea transmisison, even if the oral partner has gonorrhea of the throat. And gonorrhea is uncommon in heterosexual women. These factors translate to a very low risk for any particular exposure of the sort you describe, probably only one chance in several thousand. 2) Urethral gonorrhea without symptoms is rare. If you weren't discharging pus from your penis by 7 days, almost certainly you weren't infected and didn't need testing.
Avatar n tn Today, nine days after beginning to feel sick, I visited my doctor and was prescribed Amoxicillin 875mg tabs to be taken twice a day for the next ten days. My doctor believes I have a sinus infection, hence the Amoxicillin prescription. I did not mention my unsafe sexual encounter to my doctor and I am not having any outward symptoms of any kind of STD. My question is, can you tell me what if any STD the Amoxicillin would cure if I did contract one from my friend?
Avatar m tn I have this dripping and this pain when i pee, I have sore throat too. Is this Gonorrhea? And then after i took amoxicillin twice a day for 2 days, the pain lessened, sometimes it's not even painful but still the dripping did not stop, what should i doo?
Avatar n tn Because I had been previously diagnosed (and treated with 1000mg Amoxicillin three times daily) with a sinus and left ear infection about a month earlier he suspected that I could possibly have some type of resistant sinusitus and prescribed Augmentin XR (1000 mg) 2 pills twice a day. I had oral sex again with the asymptomatic guy again on 4/11. I was informed by the guy who developed gonorrhea of all this today, 4/14, and have not had sex with him since before his symptoms began.
Avatar n tn Chlamydia is virtually never transmitted by oral sex, but even if it were, amoxicicllin is not reliably effective. There may have been risk for gonorrhea, but amoxicillin is not active against about half of all gonorrhea strains. The risk of any STD from a single episode of oral sex is very low -- higher with some partners than others, but always low, and I would not have prescribed any antibiotic at all.
Avatar f tn Amoxicillin indeed could make the gonorrhea and chlamydia tests negative -- but only becuase it would cure them, not simply suppress the test result. In other words, a negative urine test result following amoxicillin is reliable evidence you didn't have either infection at the time of the test. It cannot distinguish between having never been infected versus infected and cured.
Avatar m tn protected oral sex is always in your best interest. hpv, sphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and herpes are the risks from oral sex - none of those are effectively treated with amoxicillin so you are wasting your time and risking your health by doing what you have asked about. be smart about your sex life!!!
Avatar n tn My first and only time doing something that insanely stupid. The next week I had a sore throat (unrelated) and went to my doctor and was given a prescription for amoxicillin. I began taking the amoxicillin 10 days after the encounter. 15 days after the encounter while still taking the amoxicillin, I had sex with my wife. We had sex twice that night, the only time since the encounter. The next week my doctor switched me to clarithromycin for my throat.
Avatar m tn The problem with your taking amoxicillin at this time is that a substantial portion of gonorrhea are now resistant to amoxicillin and if you were going to take the amoxicillin you would need to take at least 3 grams, along with a second medication to boost the antibiotic levels in your blood. As I said before, I do not recommend taking amoxicillin. The chances are that you did not get infected.
Avatar n tn Hey Doc , I took your advice and went to the doctor for the following test; chlamydia, gonorrhea and he check urine for ngu. All came negative and he didn't see any bacteria for ngu or anything relating to a std. He gave me a 14 day supply of doxycycline and said if it didn't help then probably need to see a urologist. Any other suggestions. Is he missing any other test. Can I resume intercourse in the near future.
Avatar n tn Should i get tested for this? im already on augmentin and amoxicillin when i saw a doctor without doing any tests.
Avatar m tn Hi, I recently had an encounter with a sexworker in Taiwan in which I received unprotected oral sex from her. Two days later, the tip of my penis started to burn slightly, later on the burning moved down to the urethra. The sensation came and go but I did not have any burning while peeing. A friend recommended to use Zithromax 250 just in case which I did: first day 4 tablets, second day, 2 tablets.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the STD forum. You describe a pretty common situation: one member of a couple with an STD, the other member apparently free of disease. There are several potential reasons and some of your questions refer to them. Before answering those questions, here are the usual explantions. a) Your gonorrhea test result is falsely positive. With modern tests, this is uncommon, but it's possible. b) Your partner's test is falsely negative, i.e. he is infected but the test missed it.
Avatar m tn Hello... I'm a 29 year old male, and I received unprotected oral sex about 2 1/2 weeks ago from someone I didn't know. I then had unprotected vaginal sex with another partner about 10 days later with no ejaculation. A few days later I developed head congestion and mild throat symptoms along with slight, intermittent throbbing in one testicle. No burning, itching, or discharge. I have also had what I assume is a varicocele for most of my life, but it has never given me any problems.
Avatar m tn On Monday, I was tested again and everything was negative. I never stopped taking the doxy and amoxy and I was planning on continuing to complete 7 days on these antibiotics. Could these Antibiotics be responsible for a false negative chlamydia/gonorrhea result? The only time that I showed symptoms was at 2,3 days after exposure. Thanks in advance for your help.
Avatar m tn I had a possible exposure of a one time unprotected oral sex i was the recipient and i am a male. What are my risks for std exposure and can amoxicillin cure gonorrhea and chlamydia ?
Avatar n tn Because I had been previously diagnosed (and treated with 1000mg Amoxicillin three times daily) with a sinus and left ear infection about a month earlier he suspected that I could possibly have some type of resistant sinusitus and prescribed Augmentin XR (1000 mg) 2 pills twice a day. Avatar m tn your local health department STD clinic) for an genital area examination and testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV. (There is no point in syphilis testing -- that's the one STD that would have been well prevented by amoxicillin, so no point in testing.) I hope this has helped.
Avatar n tn As for the effect of your amoxicillin on your tests, you are correct, in some people amoxicillin will cure gonorrhea or make tests negative. If you had gonorrhea and the amoxicillin were having an effect however it would most likely not only make your test negative but cure your infection as well, hence if your tests are negative, I would not worry further about oral gonorrhea. Statistically, your sore throat is more likely to be a viral infection than anything else.
Avatar m tn No it is not a symptom of HIV.
Avatar m tn t any sores or ulcers present, the likelihood of both syphilis and herpes are very very low but still possible. You can get treated or tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia within three to five days post exposure. Syphilis can be within four to six weeks post exposure or sooner if physical primary stage symptom occurs. Herpes is three to four months post exposure unless physical symptoms i.e. cluster of blisters occur.
Avatar f tn Receiving unprotected oral sex is lower risk than unprotected vaginal or anal sex. You can get gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis and genital herpes type 1 (if you don't already have oral herpes type 1. Syphilis is uncommon in most developed countries. I wouldn't worry much about that. You can test for that at 6 weeks if you feel the need to. You can test for hsv1 if you want, but the hsv1 IgG blood test is unreliable and misses 30% of infections.
