Avatar f tn Hi, I am on birth control and have been for two years now. I recently took amoxicillin for a strep throat for a few days and have been using a condom, as I always do. It's been less than a week since I took the amoxicillin and tonight the condom broke. Should I take plan B? Thank you.
914353 tn?1262274264 and even though you might be done your antibiotics.....it messes up your birth control and it takes a few cycles for birth control to take effect and idk...i just wouldnt want to risk it i would use condoms and continue to take birth control...becuase i would think you still need to stat taking it awhile and it wouldnt have even been a month since you stopped taking your antibiotic.
Avatar f tn Hi there , so i currently had my wisdom teeth taken out and was given antibiotics to help any infection from coming and after a week of taking them me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex he did not ejaculate inside of me, and i have been and am currently taking birth control diane35 for about 3 years now? i also did not realize that amoxicillin alters the effectiveness of birth control.. am i at really high risk for being pregnant? i still have a bit to go till my period would come ..
Avatar f tn No where on the Amoxicillin bottle did it warn about messing with birth control. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend within the first couple of days of taking Amoxicillin. Now my period is late and I am concerned that I may be pregnant. What are my chances?
Avatar n tn I called Alli before starting to use their product and they assurred me that it would not interfere with my birth control. I take my birth control RELIGIOUSLY and have not missed , however this month my period is very very light. Can Orlistat and the pill be taken together without causing the pill to be ineffective?
4356842 tn?1353312209 Your pharmacist is a good person to talk to. He or she should be able to tell you if there is a drug interaction. Good luck.
Avatar n tn i have read that it lowers the effectiveness but i have also read that it doesnt happen until you reach doses of 200mg or more. i have also heard that by increasing your birth control dose you can help the effectiveness and my doctor specifically prescribed lutera because it has a higher dosage than most BC. can anyone give me some more info because every where i go i seem to be getting different information, even from doctors.
Avatar f tn There are 2 reasons an antibiotic would affect birth control. 1. The medications interact with each other (the antibiotic decreases hormone levels in the body) and 2. The antibiotic kills bacteria in the GI track that are involved with the body's recycling of estrogen - which could "theoretically" have an effect on birth control effectiveness. This is why we tell women to use a back-up method even if there is no known "interaction".
Avatar f tn t take it that friday. and I AM on birth control and me and my boyfriend had sex that friday. is there anyway the antibiotic was still in my body and cancelled out my birth control for that Friday night? could I be pregnant?!
Avatar n tn Hi I hope someone can help me I am taking Amoxicillin 250mg which is an anitbiotic and am also taking Loestrin 30 for birth control. I heard that the antibiotic effected the birth control so thought best to use a condom ... unfortunately it split and now I'm worried I could be pregnant.
Avatar m tn I researched online to see if Amoxicillin lessened the effectiveness of my Birth Control and it said it could. I had sex the Friday before my period was supposed to start. I still got my period but it was really light and shorter than usual. I stopped my "period" 5 days into my cycle. I started to lightly bleed and it stopped as well. I am having all the symptoms of pregnancy but I took a home pregnancy test and came back as negative. Was it too soon to take the test? Am I pregnant?
Avatar f tn ve been anxiously searching about Birth Control and Amoxicillin, but have seen many responses and studies that show it has little to no effect, with the BC. She has been on Birth Control for over a year, and has switched a few times, and just recently about two weeks ago switched to Seasonale. We had protected sex on the last day she was taking her Amoxicillin. As said, as soon as I felt myself ejaculating I pulled out(was using a condom).
Avatar f tn Okay, so on Friday afternoon my boyfriend and I had sex for the first time. We were virgins now we're not. I have been on birth control for about 2 weeks and I didn't know that it wasn't fully affective for a month. However, I did start taking it with my cycle. I'm also on the prescription drug amoxicillin for a sinus infection. I started taking amoxicillin and another antibiotic called capmist DM on Monday. I know amoxicillin makes birth control less affective.
1703515 tn?1350500231 If Klonopin does decrease the effectiveness of your birth control, your doctor(s) and/or pharmacist may recommend using a form of back-up birth control either all the time or when you're taking the Klonopin regularly.
Avatar n tn So I'm currently on treatment for H. Pylori and taking Lanzoprazole 30mg+Amoxicillin 1g+Claritromicin 500mg, and I want to take a vitamin and mineral supplementation, my question is, will there be any interaction between this treatment and the supplementation?
Avatar f tn Hi. Thanks for replying. What birth control pill where you taking?
Avatar f tn I am very good about taking my birth control at 7 am every morning. On 1/17 I started taking my placebo for my birth control (which I only take 4 rather than all 7). So on 1/21 I started a new birth control pack and therefore started taking my active pills. On the night of 1/27 I had unprotected sex but he did not ejaculate inside me. Is there any chance I’m pregnant?
Avatar f tn antibiotics can make your birth control less effective. I got pregnant on birth control when they put me on amoxicillin and lost a twin because of it. You need to get into the dr.
Avatar f tn I take the mini pill birth control and did not do any emergency contraceptive afterwards because I’m on birth control ,and the concerns kicked in about the antibiotics possibly affecting the mini pill birth control. As you mentioned before about ovulation not happening right before your period and during it, that brought on a sense of relief! Again, thank you!
Avatar n tn I do know that antibiotics cancel out the effects of the birth control pills (which are hormones). And since Agnus Castus has an effect on hormones, my guess is that there would be some interaction between it and antibiotics. At best, it would just be canceled out like birth control. But the interaction could be bad as well. I would suggest to stop taking the Agnus Castus while taking the antibiotics. I highly doubt that your Dr.
Avatar f tn depends on which IUD....if it's the copper one, no effect. and even if it's the one that releases hormones the effect should be minimal because not only does the IUD use hormones to prevent pregnancy but the placement of the IUD itself can actually affect ovulation and the chances of pregnancy.. but the truth about risk of pregnancy due to taking antibiotics concurrently is iffy.
Avatar f tn I know two people personally who got pregnant while on birth control and taking antibiotics. They went on and had the children even though at the time they didn’t want to have a pregnancy.
