Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia your blood

ammonia

Avatar m tn If the liver is unable to effectively metabolize the ammonia, the levels rise in the blood. Could you be eating too much protein??? What s your typical food during a day? Are you getting your protein from vegetable sources or chicken and fish? You are not eating any red meat, correct? Higher than norm ammonia levels are usually due to a problem with protein being broken down in the small intestines. It is then process by the liver and eliminated through the kidneys in your urine.
Avatar f tn Use a colour that does not have ammonia and nothing that is a bleach unless it is foiled and not touching the scalp, your roots go straight to your blood stream. So a semi permanent would be your best best and that can go on the roots since they are ammonia free but double check with the stylist.
1481758 tn?1287638643 apparently the protocol for dx of your symptoms stopped at the blood test level. However, your doctor should be able to account for your symptoms. Hope this helps, and thanks for your question. A doctor with all your health records and history is the best source to explain and/or diagnose your symptoms.
190885 tn?1333025891 The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Take enough lactulose to have 3-4 bowel movements per day and your ammonia level will drop and you will feel better. Normal is 15-60 mcg/dL. It usually that a day or a couple of days for the ammonia levels to drop. I am not sure of your health status.
1008841 tn?1293598960 The blood test for ammonia is AFP or alpha fet protein test. It measures the level of ammonia in your blood. When it is high it is not much fun. The explaination in Hector SF's post is so accurate. The first indication for me that it is high is that my hands shake and I can't write and it's hard to hold fork or spoon. I also get confused easily and can't sort things out. Sometimes I think I'm okay - until I get it in control again and look back.
Avatar n tn One of the meds I amon is coumadine a blood thinner. Could I have thinned my blood to thin and now have ammonia in my blood? What could cause the headaches? Is it serious?
Avatar n tn My liver biopsy showed a 2 but a blood ammonia test was over 190 so my gastro want me to start the treatment as soon as possible. I also have Ankylosing Spondylitis a form of arthritis. I have probably had Hep for 30 years or more diagnosed in 04. I have been doing a lot of research on the web, especially on the ammonia test, and read the symptoms for a level that high which would indicate a pretty bad liver function are a lot of fatigue, memory loss, confusion etc.
Avatar f tn No, you can dye your hair at anytime. Ammonia free is the best way to go.
1475202 tn?1536270977 Normally, ammonia is metabolized by the liver. When the liver function is impaired, shunting of blood around the liver, and increased muscle wasting all lead to increased serum ammonia levels in cirrhotic patients. But ammonia isn't the only toxin involved in HE. Certain amino acids and manganese are also involved and perhaps others.
Avatar f tn High concentrations are really dangerous, but low concentrations could be tolerated by other humans. You can have a blood test to check the levels of ammonia in your blood, but I’ve not got round to investigating it yet. I’m convinced it’s a gas or a toxin linked to one of our bio-chemical body reactions. One day it will all make sense.
Avatar n tn High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production. I suggest you talk about these possibilities with your doctors. Laxatives and a syrup called lactulose can aid bowel movement and decrease the amount of ammonia producing bacteria in the bowel. Regards.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar f tn You can dye your hair. Make sure it's ammonia free and your in a well ventilated area.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you need more carbs, less protein and more water in your diet. Can you say what your diet is like? Do you eat a lot of meat and very little carbohydrates? If this ratio becomes unbalanced it can cause the ammonia smell in your sweat and bowel movements.
5002615 tn?1366014009 Is dying your hair really bad for your baby ? Im 21 weeks ive been thinking about it but i havent done it.
Avatar m tn An ammonia test measures the amount of ammonia in the blood. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Since you are on this forum I assume you have hep c? Are you experiencing the effects of toxic buildup in your blood?
Avatar n tn In the case of a school, professional help is advised, but in a bathroom use a spray bottle with 100% ammonia, go in, hold your breath and spray a three foot by three foot area. You should practice this. The idea is NOT to inhale any of the fumes. NEVER EVER USE AMMONIA AND BLEACH! NEVER! Mixed together they form a poisonous gas. Then leave the house to take care of errands. In an hour or two come back and do another three foot by three foot portion, and again leave the house.
Avatar f tn Hey guys so ive had this constant back an forth argument an conversations about dying your hair when your pregnant! Lots of people say yes its fine do it in a ventilated area or try not to get it on your roots, lots of people a doctors have told me it doesnt soak into your skin as much as people say it does.... many peooke have also told me NO dont do it, it could effect the baby, the hair might not dye correctly cause of the hormones. What do you think? Your opinion?
Avatar n tn I AM DIAGNOSED WITH END STAGE LIVER DISEASE AS A RESULT OF ALCOHOL ABUSE. THIS IS THE INFO I HAVE BEEN GIVEN CONCERNING AMMONIA LEVELS. NORMAL IS 80 AND UNDER. MY AMMONIA HAS BECOME ELEVATED AS HIGH AS 800. WHEN MY AMMONIA BECOMES ELEVATED, ENCEPHALOPATHY SETS IN. THIS CAUSES ME TO BECOME CONFUSED, DISORIENTED, AND UNSTEADY ON MY FEET. THIS IS USUALLY THE POINT WHERE I END UP IN THE HOSPITAL.
