Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia toxicity to algae

ammonia

Avatar n tn We are accustomed to dealing with personality issues from his ammonia levels. He was recently diagnosed with moderate Alzs although we think he has been undiagnosed for years. He is currently hospitalized and physically restrained because he became combative in the nursing home. His ammonia level was elevated but has come down. However, the agitation/aggression hasn't changed. The dr started him on namenda last week. Has anyone seen this kind of aggression from namenda?? HELP!!
Avatar f tn Hello my not herb has cirrhosis of the liver. And that ammonia level isn't something to play with. I had to bring her to the hospital and her levels were 177...after had she's been having trouble with eating holding things Can't walk.
Avatar m tn This can be done by eating foods, largely algae and certain sprouts, that are known to help with the toxicity radiation leaves behind. These are foods but because they are not tasty they are usually taken as juice or supplement form, such as wheat grass and spirulina. Most people would say a good quality multivitamin, and most aren't good quality, can be a helpful prophylactic, but won't be strong enough to do anything major.
Avatar n tn According to what you posted, he was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome - which is a genetic disorder. There is no cure. From the symptoms you describe, that seems to fit. Other than physical therapy and other care that is similar, I don't really have any other ideas.
Avatar m tn I feel like an idiot, I didn’t realise you could get iron poisoning. I’m not even sure in have low iron, never been to the doctor about it. I have stopped taking them but have read t can lead to death or brain and liver damage or cancer! I am so scared, I have a son and partner and don’t want to leave them, I’m so stupid! The stomach pains have stopped and not so much dihorea but read the iron can build up. Terrified I’m going to have a seizure or something.
Avatar m tn That is, if you are not allergic to it. About 30% of people can be allergic to algae... So one needs to be careful... I know first hand, as it happened to our daughter-in-law.
1491677 tn?1288462420 I have tried bottled water, letting water sit in the frig, yet the only water she will drink is the water I mix in her gravy train food. I am glad I can get her to drink this much water but I know she needs to be drinking more. It hasn't affected her health so far and I would like to take care of this problem before it does. What should I do??
Avatar m tn Some states, such as Oregon, require producers to strictly limit the concentration of microcystins in blue-green algae products, but the same protections cannot be assumed to have been applied to all products on the market. Furthermore, the maximum safe intake of microcystins is not clear, and it is possible that when blue-green algae is used for a long time, toxic effects might build up.
1008841 tn?1293598960 In terms of diet, I believe you should be avoiding as much salt as possible, and at least for the short term, reduce animal proteins to avoid complications of ammonia toxicity. Try to limit your protein intake to things like legumes and soy products; they are less likely to metabolize into ammonia in your gut. Protein is an important component of your diet though; be sure to confirm any info you gather here with your doctor.
Avatar m tn The premise of most pathophysiologic theories involves the accumulation of ammonia in the central nervous system, producing alterations of neurotransmission that affect consciousness and behavior. These ammonia toxicity theories have been supported by studies demonstrating increased ammonia levels in patients with both fulminant hepatic failure and chronic liver disease.
317787 tn?1473358451 While I am UND hoping to be heading to SVR I realize that I need to take the Lactulose for now until my liver can filter toxins a little better than it is doing right now. My question is, are there are other things I can do in addition to the lactulose? Would a high fiber diet help?...or is it only the lactulose that removes the ammonia? I appreciate any advice. I see the doctor on May 1st and will also talk to him.

Avatar m tn DETOXIFYING AMMONIA Ammonia toxicityIn part 2 of AMMONIA TOXICITY we are going to find out what we can do to remove ammonia from our body, both by supporting the organs involved in processing and disposing of it, and by taking supplements with an affinity for removing ammonia. We have seen that there are 3 organ systems in the body that produce and/or deal with ammonia: the liver, the kidneys and the intestines.
374652 tn?1494811435 It may not be complete but I hope it helps-------A prebiotic is a substance that will selectively foster/enhance/give a growth advantage to those bacteria in the intestinal mix that do not produce ammonia amd other toxins, but rather live of the offered prebiotics - mostly undigestable carbohydrates- and produce actually substances, like certain fatty acids that nourish the intestinal epithelial cells/ improving the intactness/functionality of that critical layer..
458072 tn?1291415186 The diarrhea I would think is more of a problem digesting it -- spirulina can be very hard to digest and needs to be taken with a lot of water to rehydrate it, as does any algae. And like anything, best to start with a little to see how you react and then move up to your desired dosage.
Avatar m tn Spirulina is a blue-green fresh water algae -- only one algae. You can buy it a lot cheaper than that, so I think you've stumbled onto a multi-level direct marketing venture. If you want to try it, powder works best but tastes pretty bad. I take the pills every day -- you have to take several because it's food. You can find it at any good health food store. The two best brands readily available are Earthrise and Nutrex Pacifica.
Avatar n tn Hello everyone, I was wondering at 18 months if its okay to color your hair?
757137 tn?1347196453 One of the best is wheat grass. When people are subjected to radiation, algae is used, both ocean and fresh water, since they soak up heavy metals, but again, that's not a likely source in Iraq. Maybe the best thing is to work on the liver generally and clean it out and see if it makes any improvement, but it's always hard to treat what you don't know the cause of. Good luck.
Avatar m tn A few days later my friend told me that was algae. At the point of time when i was bathing, i used the water to wash my penis and the inside of of penis...i know this is a stupid question but will i get contact with any stds just by this action.
Avatar m tn Frankly, I don't think there should be a problem with them, as long as you take them 2 hours before or after the riba, just to be sure. From what I understand, algae are a green food or 'super food'.... NOT a supplement. Just as wheat grass, barley, and the other greens. I haven't made up my mind, if I'm going to take the stem enhance while on tx, as it does NOT seem to just be a green food.... maybe it would be better to wait until UND???
Avatar f tn Make sure it has no ammonia and you are in a well ventilated area and test a small spot since hormones can mess up the color
Avatar n tn But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty. And of course he does sleep alot.
