Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia toxicity algae

ammonia

Avatar f tn she has continued to take the Lactolose for the past two weeks but today her ammonia level is 150. I would like to find out how high ammonia level can go before it is considered toxic and will cause her to go into a coma? I am also wondering in end stage cirrhosis will the lactolose eventually be uneffective in bringing down the ammonia levels? My final question is what kind of life expectancy is there when the cirrohsis remains at that level?
Avatar m tn Another thing they might do is take detoxification supplements to detox the liver, which can also sometimes be adversely affected by radiation. This can be done by eating foods, largely algae and certain sprouts, that are known to help with the toxicity radiation leaves behind. These are foods but because they are not tasty they are usually taken as juice or supplement form, such as wheat grass and spirulina.
Avatar n tn According to what you posted, he was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome - which is a genetic disorder. There is no cure. From the symptoms you describe, that seems to fit. Other than physical therapy and other care that is similar, I don't really have any other ideas.
Avatar m tn The two nutrients vegetarians can have a problem obtaining are methionine, an amino acid not found in plant protein other than perhaps fresh water algae such as spirulina, and you can't really consume a whole lot of that at a time. So getting complete protein is important. The other is B12, which is also quite high in spirulina but quite sparse in a vegetarian diet. This is one of the reasons most people who claim to be vegetarians consume dairy, definitely not a plant, and fish.
Avatar m tn I researched all the algae and decided on Chlorella for myself. Spirulina was not the right one for me and I really can't remember why, though. I will not take the chlorella once on tx. I will have some dental work done next week and will start double dosing, as I am having two of those nasty amalgam fillings I've had forever removed. Chlorella helps transport heavy metals out of the body. So it will help with the mercury. Am trying to fix all the last ones before tx.
Avatar n tn Most likely they used an alginate based material. Alginate is a derivative from a brown algae that is made into powder form and mixed with water to produce a soft mix before it hardens inside the mouth.
1008841 tn?1293598960 In terms of diet, I believe you should be avoiding as much salt as possible, and at least for the short term, reduce animal proteins to avoid complications of ammonia toxicity. Try to limit your protein intake to things like legumes and soy products; they are less likely to metabolize into ammonia in your gut. Protein is an important component of your diet though; be sure to confirm any info you gather here with your doctor.
Avatar m tn The premise of most pathophysiologic theories involves the accumulation of ammonia in the central nervous system, producing alterations of neurotransmission that affect consciousness and behavior. These ammonia toxicity theories have been supported by studies demonstrating increased ammonia levels in patients with both fulminant hepatic failure and chronic liver disease.
317787 tn?1473358451 or is it only the lactulose that removes the ammonia? I appreciate any advice. I see the doctor on May 1st and will also talk to him.
374652 tn?1494811435 Monitoring of food consumption, gain in body weight and physical observations did not reveal any treatment-related toxicity in any of the group of rats. Terminal autopsy also did not reveal any signs of toxicity. Further, no significant alterations in relative organ weight, serum biochemistry and urinalysis were observed up to 1% lactulose supplementation level. The results suggest that supplementation of lactulose in the diet does not produce any toxicity at the doses tested.
458072 tn?1291415186 The diarrhea I would think is more of a problem digesting it -- spirulina can be very hard to digest and needs to be taken with a lot of water to rehydrate it, as does any algae. And like anything, best to start with a little to see how you react and then move up to your desired dosage.
Avatar m tn Spirulina is a blue-green fresh water algae -- only one algae. You can buy it a lot cheaper than that, so I think you've stumbled onto a multi-level direct marketing venture. If you want to try it, powder works best but tastes pretty bad. I take the pills every day -- you have to take several because it's food. You can find it at any good health food store. The two best brands readily available are Earthrise and Nutrex Pacifica.
757137 tn?1347196453 I know someone who returned home after almost six year in Iraq (as a civilian) with perplexing symptoms of toxicity. Since Iraq is contaminated with depleted plutonium (ain't war grand?), I am thinking low-level, chronic radiation poisoning, since some of the symptoms fit. If so, does anyone have any suggestions for treatment? (Chelation works, but is dangerous because it can destroy the kidneys.
Avatar m tn A few days later my friend told me that was algae. At the point of time when i was bathing, i used the water to wash my penis and the inside of of penis...i know this is a stupid question but will i get contact with any stds just by this action.
Avatar m tn Spirulina you say, thats probably why my fish don't have hep or cancer. Do you have any cures for them getting eaten by the disease free algae eater.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar f tn Please get a complete hormone panel ESH, LH, estrogen, progesterone and see if there is an imbalance. Hormone replacement therapy will help. With metal toxicity, certain chelating agents are given which bind with the metal and remove them from the body. Normal detox diet will not take care of that. It basically increases the antioxidants in the body. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn Patients with liver disease are unable to process or detoxify ammonia so that ammonia levels can reach dangerously high levels. This is coupled by increased ammonia production of colonic bacteria, especially if one is constipated or has an irregular bowel movement. High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production. I suggest you talk about these possibilities with your doctors.
