Avatar f tn Anyone else have this? I'm 35 weeks and my urine smells like ammonia. No burning when I go no fever...
Avatar f tn As it turns out, the feuding over whether or not to ****** is still somewhat alive, although I gather the concensus is that sparingly and in moderation, using a slightly acidic pH (hence dilute vinegar in water) is not terribly harmful. Most medical experts seem to agree that the healthy female internal genitalia are indeed self-cleansing, and it is not difficult to upset a rather delicate balance of pH and beneficial microbes.
Avatar n tn I am afraid to go to sleep this evening as he might not be responsive in the am. He has been in the hospital 3 times this month already for high ammonia levels.
Avatar m tn I know this sounds gross, but try drinking some apple cider vinager once a day. I had the same problem that u have. What u have is high ph levels and high ammonia levels. Avatar f tn OMG! I am having the same issue. The discoloration and the ammonia smell. It seems like it started pretty recently. Do either of you happen to have an IUD? I thought maybe that would be where it comes from. Does anyone know how to help this?
Avatar m tn Most ammonia is produced in the intestine by colonic breakdown of nitrogenous compounds and enterocytic catabolism of amino acids. Other sources of ammonia are the kidneys and skeletal muscle. Normally, ammonia is metabolized in the liver and promptly excreted through the kidneys or colon. Formation of glutamine from glutamate, by glutamine synthetase, in the liver and brain is another means of detoxifying ammonia.
1008841 tn?1293598960 Hi there, I once had the same question you have now. I believe that the lactulose reduces the ammonia in your gut and brain and that's why it is important to take, if the ammonia gets too high it can cause you to have problems thinking, driving, cooking etc. I am not as good as explaining things as Hector so I have taken one of his explanations and am pasting it here. I also just read an explanation that the lactulose helps your body do the job the liver would do if it was working right.
Avatar f tn at the same time it would itch inside my vagina, I also had an ammonia smell every morning I wake up to pee but doing the day it has a normal smell. Can anyone tell me what could it be?
Avatar f tn He was admitted Monday night with severe confusion. His ammonia level was 152 and WBC/RBC and hemaglobin were extremely low. Treatment was started immediately to lower the ammonia level. Wednesday was 149, yesterday was 230 and today was 190. The doctor said it isn't responding to treatment, although the medicine definitely is keeping him cleaned out. They gave him platelets last night, but the level dropped even lower today.
Avatar n tn I think medhelp should have a pain medicine dependence and tolerance community. Maybe a group for us with chronic pain that has been place on meds to make our lives bearable.
Avatar m tn i am scared i have to get a ph test done at childrens hospital monday i am to young to go home so they said that i am going to have to spend the night at the hospital.they are going to check my acid level to see if that is whats making my tongue swell in the back.i was wondering does it hurt to swollow after you get the tube in because i am freaking out should i be freaking out or not?HELP This discussion is related to PH Test: Share your Experience.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar m tn I'm a 29year old female with no prior history of lung or heart disorders. I've never smoked. I've always been extremely athletic. Before April 2010, I would work out 4 hrs a day doing varies training regiments. I would run over 20miles/week plus train muay thai and rock climb. I'm 5'6" and I've always been around 130-135lbs. In April 2010, I was unable to walk to the kitchen w/SOB (gain 20lbs), chest pains, dizzy, HR <46 and fatigue.
Avatar m tn The premise of most pathophysiologic theories involves the accumulation of ammonia in the central nervous system, producing alterations of neurotransmission that affect consciousness and behavior. Ammonia interferes with brain function at many sites. Ammonia crosses the blood-brain barrier and directly depresses the central nervous system.
Avatar n tn Patients with liver disease are unable to process or detoxify ammonia so that ammonia levels can reach dangerously high levels. This is coupled by increased ammonia production of colonic bacteria, especially if one is constipated or has an irregular bowel movement. High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production. I suggest you talk about these possibilities with your doctors.
Avatar m tn Ammonia odor can be associated with H. pylori. Ammonia can also be associated with urine and fecal material and not due to H. pylori.
190885 tn?1333025891 I am assuming you have cirrhosis? (I have a list of cirrhotics but I know it doesn't include everyone with cirrhosis here). Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and brain fog are two different conditions. "Brain fog" has nothing to do with ammonia levels. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine.
Avatar n tn Yes it does. High levels of ammonia cause hepatic encephalopathy which in turn can cause confusion, sleepiness and forgetfulness. There are medications to help lower those levels. Speak to your hep doc.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm a 19 year old girl and ever since April I've been dealing with uncomfortable symptoms down there. The worst has been what I thought was vaginal discharge causing constant wetness to the point where I'm soaking through my clothes. I feel very wet and in my vaginal area and also moist between my butt cheeks and it's as horrible as it sounds, it makes me feel very uncomfortable. I've been to the doctors been tested for BV/Yeast infection, results came back clear.
