Ammonia nitrogen cycle

Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia nitrogen cycle

ammonia

Avatar n tn Urine is high in nitrates, compounds high in nitrogen and oxygen. Ammonia is made up of nitrogen and hydrogen. (NH3) What you are smelling is the high concentration of bonded nitrogen. Normally, diluted urine doesn't have much odor. If you're dehydrated and your urine becomes highly concentrated, it can have a strong ammonia smell.
Avatar f tn Some foods like proteins cause the excretion of nitrogen compounds (ammonia and urea). Hence these foods can be reduced in diet. Hope these tips help. If symptoms persist consult an urologist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn It sounds like you may have a urea cycle disorder, which involves a deficiency of one of six enzymes in the liver which transfer ammonia from the blood into a harmless substance. An untreated urea cycle disorder results in elevations of ammonia, which in turn causes changes in the brain, causing brain swelling, seizures, coma, and death. For someone who has recovered from the hyperammonemia, residua of damage affects cognitive function.
Avatar n tn Dear Sir, I'm not sure if this is the best forum, but it seems the closest fit. I'm a 30 year old British guy, 5'11", 175lbs. At the moment I'm working overseas, and likely to be doing so for at least the next 6 months. For a few weeks now I've been noticing wafts of what I can only describe as the smell of Ammonia. I cant be sure where the smell is coming from - it's quite obvious if I breath in really deep through my nose a few times.
Avatar m tn Most ammonia is produced in the intestine by colonic breakdown of nitrogenous compounds and enterocytic catabolism of amino acids. Other sources of ammonia are the kidneys and skeletal muscle. Normally, ammonia is metabolized in the liver and promptly excreted through the kidneys or colon. Formation of glutamine from glutamate, by glutamine synthetase, in the liver and brain is another means of detoxifying ammonia.
Avatar n tn Lung infections like pneumonia ,exposure to certain chemicals like chlorine, ammonia or nitrogen dioxide, smoke inhalation and certain kidney diseases can also cause it. Please visit your doctor and get yourself examined. Do keep posting.
Avatar f tn The presence of blood in the upper gastrointestinal tract results in increased ammonia and nitrogen absorption from the gut. Bleeding may predispose to kidney hypoperfusion and impaired renal function. Blood transfusions may result in mild hemolysis, with resulting elevated blood ammonia levels. **** So the bleeding from ulcers could trigger an episode of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in a patient with cirrhosis and HE to begin with.
Avatar m tn Had to be given four blasts of liquid nitrogen to remove a skin cancer from my face. In the next couple of weeks it will be permanently gone. The reason I am putting this here is as a warning. If you have a strange mark or growth anywhere on your body, do not hesitate to have it checked out. I was wise enough to do something about it as soon as I spotted it. I didn't know what it was and decided to take no chances. In addiction the same philosophy applies.
Avatar f tn I did per blood but afterwards I was dripping blood and when I wiped it was pure blood, so much like I was on a heavy cycle. I did feel the urge to urinate a lot. My symptoms just disappeared after 2 days of this. My urine smells bad of ammonia for months now. Just not sure if it's a UTI or what. I had no pain other than burning.
4862546 tn?1360241703 In patients with decompensated cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy (HE) Lactulose/Kristalose is the first line of treatment after the elimination of red meat protein from the diet, which during digestion produces high levels of ammonia and other toxins. Kristalose can be mixed in plain water and has almost no flavor. Mix it in juices and you will never taste it. Kristalose is manufactured by Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc., Nashville, TN.
Avatar n tn The only value that is not within norms is ammonia. Only in the final stage of liver disease does ammonia levels become an issue from liver disease. Higher than norm ammonia levels can be caused by many illnesses besides liver disease. - Congestive heart failure Gastrointestinal bleeding - usually in the upper GI tract Genetic diseases of the urea cycle Hyperthermia Leukemia Liver failure Muscle exertion Your previous doctor treated you for 29 weeks and you never became undetectable?
Avatar f tn I had unprotected oral sex with a prostitute 2 weeks later I got a red pimple dot on my penis I went to the doctor and they said it was molluscum contagiosum. They sprayed it with liquid nitrogen. A few days after I was checking my penis and seen a wart like thing on my penis I went to the dermatologist they took a look at said it doesn't look like a wart but we will spray liquid nitrogen and if it goes away it's a wart if it doesn't it's not.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar n tn Patients with liver disease are unable to process or detoxify ammonia so that ammonia levels can reach dangerously high levels. This is coupled by increased ammonia production of colonic bacteria, especially if one is constipated or has an irregular bowel movement. High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production. I suggest you talk about these possibilities with your doctors.
Avatar m tn Hi guys, I have 3 small warts on my penis and they were diagnosed as bowenoid papulosis. My GP treated them with liquid nitrogen. After 2 days, I found the skin around the warts are much dark than other areas, is this normal? The doctor ask me go for the second treatment in two weeks. Anyone here has experience of liquid nitrogen treatment? will the skin become dark for ever?
Avatar n tn Absolutely. I had some and they were zapped with nitrogen. But, instead of a swab dipped in liquid nitrigen, it is a pressurized form of liquid nitrogen that is released as very cold spray from a bottle. Pretty much like those one-dose-nitrogen to burn foot warts sold at the pharmacy. They are identical. The idea is to burn it and as the skin grows back, the wart falls off. May need many checkups to see if it worked entirely. Except for the pride on the moment, it doesn't hurts that much.
Avatar m tn I was recently found to have a melanoma just below my left eye. The dermatologist sprayed it with liquid nitrogen and bid me goodbye. I have developed a light bump there and it has been described as an after effect of the nitrogen. Has anyone else had this procedure and if so what was the after effect?
Avatar m tn Ammonia odor can be associated with H. pylori. Ammonia can also be associated with urine and fecal material and not due to H. pylori.
190885 tn?1333025891 I am assuming you have cirrhosis? (I have a list of cirrhotics but I know it doesn't include everyone with cirrhosis here). Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and brain fog are two different conditions. "Brain fog" has nothing to do with ammonia levels. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine.
Avatar n tn Yes it does. High levels of ammonia cause hepatic encephalopathy which in turn can cause confusion, sleepiness and forgetfulness. There are medications to help lower those levels. Speak to your hep doc.
680807 tn?1304496587 Please can some one tell me why does my urine smell like ammonia its so strong i am embarrassed i need pads galore to change for i urine at time some lilte small quantity here and there like when i laugh or get up or move fast??i am diabetic type 2 .i have lots of chronic,s illness ?i told me Doctor and she said it was because i did not drank enough maybe ?But i am drinking a lot and more since i was told that it could the reason that my urine smell like ammonia.
