Avatar f tn What helps is the Candida diet (which sucks at first but helped relieve my sinus symptoms in a few days) and sinus rinses like NielMed (only use distilled water) are great. Besides the baking Soda salt mix in the sinus rinse, people can add 1/2 tsp Xylitol. It keeps things from sticking and keeps down bacteria as well. I’ve also heard of fresh garlic being used with success. People eat it as well as add some drops to their nasal rinse.

Avatar f tn Red meat contributes to the ammonia buildup and salt ( sodium) contributes to the ascites, fluid build up. Read labels. Feed him food as fresh and freshly prepared and as organic as possible.
Avatar m tn What can cause a ammonia smell in sweat and Colin? the girl had the same smell.
Avatar f tn The biggest source of sodium is the salt in packaged foods and foods from restaurants. If he is still eating salt it limits how effective the diuretics can be. Amino acids and ammonia come from protein in the diet. Some evidence shows that patients with cirrhosis do better when they get their protein from vegetables (such as beans, lentils, and tofu) and from dairy products (including eggs, milk, and yogurt) instead of from meats. No red meats.
Avatar n tn ) I am new to all this and so have been trawling the Internet trying to get some idea of the possible treatments and came across several sites promoting a large consumption of water ( I do this anyway ) but adding salt!!?? I was of the opinion that decreasing salt was the way forward and that adding salt to the diet is the last thing you should be doing. Any thoughts?
1491677 tn?1288462420 I have tried bottled water, letting water sit in the frig, yet the only water she will drink is the water I mix in her gravy train food. I am glad I can get her to drink this much water but I know she needs to be drinking more. It hasn't affected her health so far and I would like to take care of this problem before it does. What should I do??

Avatar m tn I just broke out my neti pot for the first time in about 4 years using a mixture I found on the web (1 qt. water, 3 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. baking soda) I ran about 6 oz. through my nose and after I was done, for the next 10-15 minutes I sensed a distinct ammonia-like odor in my sinuses. It's what sent me googling and why I ended up here. No idea what caused it, but it's fading now. My wife said she can't smell it. Coincidentally, we just found out we're expecting as well.
Avatar n tn Urine is high in nitrates, compounds high in nitrogen and oxygen. Ammonia is made up of nitrogen and hydrogen. (NH3) What you are smelling is the high concentration of bonded nitrogen. Normally, diluted urine doesn't have much odor. If you're dehydrated and your urine becomes highly concentrated, it can have a strong ammonia smell.
4281488 tn?1353905580 I am 20+2 and I notice if I eat anything with salt I swell up mostly in my hands. My rings feel tight and my fingers feel all pudgy. I drink lots of water but it still takes hours before I feel normal again. Am I alone in this??
487969 tn?1249313291 tornado warnings are all around me and the sirens are blaring for us to take cover but I have to know - how much unrefined seasalt in how much water helps the salt cravings? And how in the world can salt water help with bloating? I am so happy that I may have found answers to that darn salt craving. I never knew it was related to my thyroid. Does low thyroid cause bloating, or is it the salt? WooHoo! (I'm doing a cartwheel and, believe me, it isn't a pretty sight!
Avatar f tn red meat, when digested, puts off a lot of ammonia. With a compromised liver, the ammonia can go right to the brain and cause a brain fog. Eventually, if you eat enough red meat with a damaged liver, and the next stage would be a hepatic coma. So which is better? A steak, or possibly dying? Your choice. Healthy diet, or horrific side effects that can compromise every aspect of your life? I'm Italian and had to give up red sauce, pizza, meat, and pram cheese. Now my skin looks lovely.
Avatar n tn Depending on where you live, your town's water supply may use a lot of ammonia or bleach to purify it. In my town, they use so much you can smell it right out of the tap. When you intake this, it is filtered out through the kidneys and down the urinary tract during urination, but your body will find other ways of getting it out too, like sweating or during ejaculation. Drinking bottled water should prevent this, if that's the case with your husband.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Ammonia levels are correlated with a person's liver status, and bacterial load of the colon and bowels. Patients with liver disease are unable to process or detoxify ammonia so that ammonia levels can reach dangerously high levels. This is coupled by increased ammonia production of colonic bacteria, especially if one is constipated or has an irregular bowel movement. High protein intake can also lead to an incresed ammonia production.
Avatar f tn If the liver is decompromised it cannot metabolize the waste products hence there is an elevation of blood ammonia levels resulting in increased excretion in the urine. Also, increased levels of ammonia may also be seen with gastrointestinal bleeding, where the blood cells are haemolysed in the intestines, releasing protein. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn An ammonia test measures the amount of ammonia in the blood. Most ammonia in the body forms when protein is broken down by bacteria in the intestines. The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Since you are on this forum I assume you have hep c? Are you experiencing the effects of toxic buildup in your blood?

Avatar m tn I am 19 and am a male and when I asked about losing fat in particularly, and a lot of people said for me, drinking a lot of water throughout the day will definitely help. So I ask, why and how does drinking plenty of water throughout the day (some say 2-4 liters) help with weight loss? What is the science behind it and the basic (in lamense terms) answer behind it?
1481758 tn?1287638643 It can be treated with diuretics-fluid pills, but the easiest way to lower the levels is to start drinking more water. The more water in, the more urine made, and the more ammonia excreted out-unless you have kidney issues. Recommended amount of water per day is 8- 8 ounces glasses. I Hope This Helps.
Avatar m tn Hi i have had the same problem. I have researched this topic over and over. i found the answer or something close to what im looking for because i know that i do not drink enough water. Answer: salt forms on your eyebrows, under-eyes, and many other places as your body's last effort to stop dehydration.
