Common Questions and Answers about Ammonia and urea plant

ammonia

Avatar f tn Two and a half years ago, in status epilepticus, unconscious for 3 weeks, my ammonia level was 1,494. The test was taken numerous times because no one could believe that I was still alive. I have this documented. I have no history of drug or alcohol abuse. Have you ever heard of anyone with an ammonia level this elevated who survived it without any lasting organ damage?
Avatar f tn Some foods like proteins cause the excretion of nitrogen compounds (ammonia and urea). Hence these foods can be reduced in diet. Hope these tips help. If symptoms persist consult an urologist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
1481758 tn?1287638643 very possible. Ammonia should be converted with enzymes into urea for extraction and a build up ammonia is toxic to the nervous system.
Avatar n tn My first guess was that it was produced by some bacteria in the urinary track, which secrete urease and degrade urea into ammonia. I know two types of urinary bacteria that can do this: Ureaplasma and Proteus. Neither was found when I did tests. But actually I had some concerns about that laboratory. I have read quite many notes in the Internet, where people say it's normal when urine smells like ammonia, that it may be due to diet or exercise. I think it's ********.
Avatar f tn my understanding is that a healthy liver processess and removes ammonia from the body (after converting it to urea). a struggling liver does so less efficiently - hence the smell remaining in your urine.
Avatar m tn Proteus constantly decomposes urea to produce a high concentration of ammonia, which enters the pudendal blood vessels and circulates with the blood. High concentration of ammonia first reaches the pudendal sweat glands of patients, and is discharged from the body through sweating ammonia. High concentration of ammonia makes PATM patients emit the smell of urine and toilet.
7827642 tn?1396958758 I would wait until you hit your second trimester. Also, when you do it, try to get something without the ammonia and NO bleach. I used the new Olia that is oil based. There's no smell and it works great.
190885 tn?1333025891 The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Take enough lactulose to have 3-4 bowel movements per day and your ammonia level will drop and you will feel better. Normal is 15-60 mcg/dL. It usually that a day or a couple of days for the ammonia levels to drop. I am not sure of your health status.
Avatar f tn When the liver is struggling it can’t convert protein properly and it ends up as ammonia that passes out into the blood stream and makes our body toxic. Ammonia is an irritant that causes dry throats, coughing, sneezing etc. This theory ties up with people who have stopped eating protein and moved to a plant based diet, giving up alcohol which damages the liver, and more recently someone saying tamarind had helped them. Just a thought that this could be worth further investigation.
Avatar m tn I have 57 ammonia level in July and in August 97 ammonia level. Took Lactulose and two weeks later had 101 and added the antibiotic effixir (sp) just last week. Will this be chronis? Is there hope to get it down and keep it down? The test showed a slightly enlarged liver. Could this be caused from spreading fertilizer, coloring my hair and spraying poision? I cut out the protein except for fish, eggs and a few other things. Driking lots more water to flush my system. Any other suggestions.
Avatar m tn In patients with advanced cirrhosis, the liver is no longer able to metabolize the ammonia and convert it to urea so the ammonia builds up the in body producing and travels to the person's brain with psychological and other effects.
Avatar f tn I have undergone several tests as per my health checkup, and Physician has confirmed nothing seriously wrong, and advised me not to worry and continue to remain sober However, because of my minor symptoms and the ammonia level, and information on the web worries me for encephalopathy.Could you help me in: -If Encephalopathy is suspected, then also suspect is associated cirrhosis, and portal hypertension? But USG says No portal hypertension. -What could be the reason of high ammonia?
Avatar m tn Ammonia levels rise when there are large amounts of protein being catabolized and the liver is unable for some reason to convert it into urea so it can be excreted through the kidneys. anything that interferes with the breakdown of ammonia in the system will increase serum levels. Also keep in mind that it is the symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy that are used to diagnose HE.
Avatar n tn As I am new to this forum, I find out by reading other peoples posts that it seems that a lot off you guys know more than my last G.I. Dr. Can anyone tell me what it means when your IGG serum is high,MCH levels are high,C3 and C4 levels are low. Also, after failing tx last year (29weeks)never became undetectable and stopped. Genotype 1a with stage 3 fibrosis can I have chirrosis by now? My alt and ast are in the 40's,platelets are in range,my ammonia levels came down to 68 from 87.
Avatar m tn Hes soiledsystem, if you indeed had high ammonia in your blood, it could sort of add up to my urea theory, in a sense that by some bacteria and fungi urea gets converted to ammonia and carbomate, by an enzyme called Urease. And most people should not have high Ammonia, as it should be converted back to Urea by an enzyme called "carbamoyl phosphate synthase" to be excreted. But what if a pathogenic organism that is causing our symptoms is also feeding on ammonia?
Avatar f tn Since i am mostly vegetarian, and only break this rule with fish a few times a month, i was careful to note that the ammonia smell only occurred after eating fish. My physician tested me and found that i definitely had an ammonia buildup and i should stop eating animal protein. Once i dropped eating fish the problem went away. My physician told me that the ammonia buildup can lead to encephalopathy - brain fog - that can be very damaging, so i'm sticking to a vegetarian diet.
Avatar n tn Dear Sir, I'm not sure if this is the best forum, but it seems the closest fit. I'm a 30 year old British guy, 5'11", 175lbs. At the moment I'm working overseas, and likely to be doing so for at least the next 6 months. For a few weeks now I've been noticing wafts of what I can only describe as the smell of Ammonia. I cant be sure where the smell is coming from - it's quite obvious if I breath in really deep through my nose a few times.
Avatar m tn It gradually improves after waking but is still diminished throughout the day. And her gate and balance have made her where she must be guarded against falls and escorted. On good days she gets along well with cane. She has some sleep apnea but primary physician doubts it is of issue here. Serum ammonia was high but we think it is better now as confusion she was experiencing has improved. Any thoughts as to what this might be?
Avatar m tn He will take a shower and then towel dry. He smells great. The towel smells like ammonia, then after it drys it is just horrible bo. He gets mad because I wash his towel after one use but it stinks up whole bathroom. He does not smell it. What could this be? Please help this is something I can not take.
Avatar n tn i have high ammonia level and im trying to find ways to bring them down, preferably herbs or natural ways.
Avatar m tn Intestinal ammonia passes into the bloodstream and travels to the liver, which converts ammonia into urea. Urea subsequently passes from the body through the urine. High blood ammonia levels can occur with various forms of chronic liver disease, acute liver failure and gastrointestinal bleeding. Elevated blood ammonia levels adversely affect brain function. Early diagnosis and treatment of an elevated blood ammonia level helps reduce the risk of potentially life-threatening complications.
232704 tn?1217467102 However, my dau and son have same blood type as me and a second dau and heard they do live liver transplants in Dallas, and I live same distance to Dallas as OKC I have tried for this past 5 yrs to get the wt off and have 40 ponds lost was 420. I am in stage IV.
1530342 tn?1405016490 Absolutely brice, I saw the thing on television and that smoke was black as night and they did say some ammonia type stuff was in there along with other stuff. El, if yer caught throwing a cig out the window here, you go to jail and get a fine of like 500 bucks. We are the same as Texas in that fires start easy and spread fast. Even cutting the grass with a lawn mower can start a fire. We have had lots of rain here but here el nino is back so gonna go into a dry spell here.
Avatar f tn Dehydration from diuretic therapy and diarrhea, infection, some medications, and progression of liver disease can all lead to kidney failure, which in turn leads to decreased clearance of urea, ammonia, and other toxins that can contribute to encephalopathy. • Other factors: A rise of blood pH (alkalosis), which often results from diuretics and resulting dehydration, may facilitate entry of ammonia into the brain and exacerbate encephalopathy.

Avatar n tn ASA is one of the urea cycle disorders and is caused by deficiency of an enzyme called argininosuccinic acid lyase in the body. This prevents the conversion of argininosuccinic acid (ASA) into arginine. The build-up in ASA if too high ultimately causes a build-up in ammonia. At the same time, arginine may be deficient.
Avatar f tn BUN measures the amount of NITROGEN in the waste product (urea) in the blood. Urea is formed by the liver for excretion of ammonia built up by the breakdown of protein. It is normally excreted in the urine, but when kidney function is impaired, the urea increases in the blood.
