ammonia

Avatar n tn remind your doctor that smoking, muscular exertion (muscles produce ammonia when active and absorb it when resting), exercise before having the blood test and leaving the tourniquet on too long when taking the blood, CAN CAUSE HIGH AMMONIA READINGS. And please tell him that wanting to treat somebody based on ONE ammonia reading is absolutely ridiculous and he should be ashamed of himself. Avatar m tn In patients with advanced cirrhosis, the liver is no longer able to metabolize the ammonia and convert it to urea so the ammonia builds up the in body producing and travels to the person's brain with psychological and other effects.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you need more carbs, less protein and more water in your diet. Can you say what your diet is like? Do you eat a lot of meat and very little carbohydrates? If this ratio becomes unbalanced it can cause the ammonia smell in your sweat and bowel movements.
Avatar f tn -Do High ammonia levels not reflect/ co-relate in associated blood reports of kidney and liver? All my other blood tests are normal. 190885 tn?1333025891 The liver normally converts ammonia into urea, which is then eliminated in urine. Ammonia levels in the blood rise when the liver is not able to convert ammonia to urea. This may be caused by cirrhosis or severe hepatitis. Take enough lactulose to have 3-4 bowel movements per day and your ammonia level will drop and you will feel better. Normal is 15-60 mcg/dL. It usually that a day or a couple of days for the ammonia levels to drop. I am not sure of your health status.
Avatar n tn But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty. And of course he does sleep alot.
Avatar n tn I smell ammonia. No one else can smell it. This happens off and on and in many different locations. I have read that this happens to people after a weight training session but I don't work out. It has happened when I was just sitting reading a book. I have seen my GP secondary to ill feeling for a year. The only abnormal labs are slightly elevated sed rate and slightly elevated WBC. I have muscle pain and weakness and extreme fatigue. My Doctor says he has no idea what is wrong with me.
Avatar f tn The first time they found the problem he lost 30 pounds and it went away well he has since gained that back and a little more and the fatty liver popped back up so now he has to go on a diet again although he does not drink the dr told him not to drink at all it could be very harmful because of the state his liver is in now.
Avatar n tn One of the meds I amon is coumadine a blood thinner. Could I have thinned my blood to thin and now have ammonia in my blood? What could cause the headaches? Is it serious?
Avatar m tn you need more than just blood testing for std's. you need urine testing and if you've had anal sex, anal swabs. really nothing we can do to help you at this point. continue to follow up with your doctors as needed for your symptoms.
Avatar f tn When the liver is struggling it can’t convert protein properly and it ends up as ammonia that passes out into the blood stream and makes our body toxic. Ammonia is an irritant that causes dry throats, coughing, sneezing etc. This theory ties up with people who have stopped eating protein and moved to a plant based diet, giving up alcohol which damages the liver, and more recently someone saying tamarind had helped them. Just a thought that this could be worth further investigation.
Avatar n tn I AM DIAGNOSED WITH END STAGE LIVER DISEASE AS A RESULT OF ALCOHOL ABUSE. THIS IS THE INFO I HAVE BEEN GIVEN CONCERNING AMMONIA LEVELS. NORMAL IS 80 AND UNDER. MY AMMONIA HAS BECOME ELEVATED AS HIGH AS 800. WHEN MY AMMONIA BECOMES ELEVATED, ENCEPHALOPATHY SETS IN. THIS CAUSES ME TO BECOME CONFUSED, DISORIENTED, AND UNSTEADY ON MY FEET. THIS IS USUALLY THE POINT WHERE I END UP IN THE HOSPITAL.
412873 tn?1329174455 Does anyone know the name for the condition that leads to elevated ammonia levels in the blood? I think it happens when the liver is less able to remove toxins from the blood and can lead to confusion and other symptoms. Thanks for any input.
Avatar m tn Proteus constantly decomposes urea to produce a high concentration of ammonia, which enters the pudendal blood vessels and circulates with the blood. High concentration of ammonia first reaches the pudendal sweat glands of patients, and is discharged from the body through sweating ammonia. High concentration of ammonia makes PATM patients emit the smell of urine and toilet.
Avatar n tn There is more than one variety, and a specialist is needed to determine the specific type. Generally ammonia will destroy this kind of mold. I know people recommend other liquids, but ammonia is the way to go. Before using the ammonia the room should be "dewatered" with use of one of more dehumidifiers. These molds like moist places.
Avatar m tn I have 57 ammonia level in July and in August 97 ammonia level. Took Lactulose and two weeks later had 101 and added the antibiotic effixir (sp) just last week. Will this be chronis? Is there hope to get it down and keep it down? The test showed a slightly enlarged liver. Could this be caused from spreading fertilizer, coloring my hair and spraying poision? I cut out the protein except for fish, eggs and a few other things. Driking lots more water to flush my system. Any other suggestions.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 53 year old male and my ammonia blood test just came back at 89 umol/L. I bellieve the normal range is 10-45. I'm also taking Valproic Acid (2500 mg/ day), Lamictal (300 mg/ day) and Dilantin (500 mg/day) for seizures. All my other blood tests are in range. Can anyone tell me if this is a dangerously high level, i.e., liver or kidney damaging?
Avatar f tn m not taking any medication, as the doctor precribed daily exercise rather than medication, and that is helping with the high blood pressure. Is this a sign that there's something else happening with my body?
