Amlodipine onset of action

Common Questions and Answers about Amlodipine onset of action

norvasc

Avatar n tn Amlodipine and Lisinopril have different mechanisms of action... These medications are prescribed depending on the status of the patient(co-morbidities or other diseases)... For example, Beta-Blockers(a class/group of anti-hypertensives) is not given to a hypertensive patient with asthma since this may exacerbate/worsen the asthma... Better a consult your doctor...
Avatar m tn Doctor has also presribed Hydrochlorot, 25 mg, Triam/HCTZ 37.5-25, Amlodipine, 5 mg. Each of these are taken 1 x daily. Other medications include Zetia for elevated cholesteral and Naproxen for severe osteoarthritis. I note on side effects that vomiting is listed but not how often. Has anyone experienced similiar episodes. Pat M.

Avatar f tn Calcium channel blockers like Amlodipine (Norvasc). Concomitant use of Amlodipine and Viagra may cause lowering of blood pressure. Alpha blockers like doxazosin (Cardura®), prazosin (Minipress®), and terazosin (Hytrin®). Viagra when used in combination with alpha blockers may cause drop in blood pressure, light-headedness, dizziness, or fainting. Nitrates (nitrogen oxide donors) should not be taken with Viagra. Concomitant use of Viagra and nitrates may cause severe drop in blood pressure.
Avatar m tn Showed mild RAE and Moderate LAE and my RV was upper limits of normal. Have been on amlodipine and quinapril for about 6-7 years as well as other meds. My blood tests came back fine except for my RDW which is elevated. My NT-ProBNP was only at 6 pmol/L so very low. The Cardiologist immediately ruled out coronary disease - he said I was too young (40yrs old).
Avatar m tn In general, 10 mg is the starting dose of cilnidipine and 5 mg is the starting dose of amlodipine. So, those are the initial starting doses and why they'd be said to be 'comparable'. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4397623/ Let us know how it is going.
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed amlodipine for my gastritis how ever I can't seem to find any info about it being helpful for that. All the info I have found is about blood pressure. Is this a common prescription? Should I be concerned if I already have low blood pressure?
Avatar m tn I am a male 70 years of age. I have been on 150mg Irbesartan and 5mg Amlodipine daily since October 2010. This controlled by BP within acceptable limits. Since late April, however, the systolic has risen to an average of around 150. My doctor wants me to add a beta blocker to the other medications. Since last October my heart rate was averaging below 60. Since late April it is averaging around 70.
Avatar m tn I was told I have mild left ventricular hypertrophy and left atrial enlargement. I am very overweight with a bmi of 41, male, 33 years old, and a smoker (trying to quit). I was put on metoprolol200 mg per day, amlodipine 10 mg, and since my high sensitivity c-reactive protein was 8.9, I was put on simvastatin 5mg. The medicine was controlling my blood pressure over the last couple of months but now it is not. I consistently run in the 150/95 range. My resting heart rate stays around 90.
Avatar m tn I take losartan and honestly, my bp dropped quickly (thankfully, it was worryingly high). I have read though that amlodipine can take a couple of weeks to work. The thing that concerns me is that the literature says 'starts to work the first day you take it but up to two weeks for the FULL effect". Meaning, your bp rose which would worry me. Are you renal impaired? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn m interested in hearing from anybody who has had similar symptoms, or a similar course of action before getting a diagnosis. I have never really heard of tinnitis or vertigo being symptoms of MS, and those are the main reasons I even started pursuing medical help to begin with. The doctors have ruled out some explanations (like the acoustic neuroma), but there are still other possibilities on the table (Meniere's disease, or even high blood pressure for example).
Avatar n tn It kind of sounds like a form of Action tremors, but I have to agree with mkh9.
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone, I'm 41 male with history of hypertension. My BP stays around 170/100. Highest was recorded 176/110. I have been on Telmisartan 40mg for few weeks but it killed my sex drive entirely. I stopped taking it & gradually recovered from low libido. Also i've noticed a general decline in libido & an onset of ED after i crossed age 40. Now my libido is not that strong as it used to be 4 years back even without medicine.
Avatar n tn Have you used Valsartan for treatment of hypertension patients in high risk patients? Are you aware about the combination Valsartan and Amlodipine to treat hypertension in high risk patients? How its is better than Telmisarton and Amlodipine combination?
Avatar n tn Hi. I have had high blood pressure for years. Like really high -- 190+over 90 very often. So I'm working on taking medication but I have a question about amlodipine. I start with Lisinopril 40mg, but my doctor added amlodipine. It helps but my ankles and legs swell up really bad. Thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. thanks.
Avatar f tn I have hbp, was diagnosed couple of weeks ago its always been over 190-218. They started me on losartan 50 mg and amlodipine 5mg. And for some reason it seams like it is not going down, so I went to the ER and they increased my amlodipine to 10mg and adv me to contact my primary dr that following week. Called the dr that next week and he increased my losartan to 100 mg and amlodipine to 10 mg, 1 each per day. However it seems like my bp is still hanging out around the upper 180's.
Avatar n tn In the fall of 2008 I was hospitalized for HBP and prescribed amlodipine. After a few years I added benazapryl. This past week (March 2013) my anxiety/panic disorder reached a new high and have been off work and resting for about a week now. I have not started the prescribed Cymbalta yet, decided to do some research.
Avatar m tn The brown discoloration is caused by the swelling. I looked it up and swelling of the ankle area was the most prevalent side effect for amlodipine. Thirteen percent of users experienced swelling. I got off amlodipine 2 months ago and have not had an episode of swelling since. It may take years for the brown to totally fade.
Avatar f tn Had a large tumor and total thyroidectomy removed 3 weeks ago. The past few days having dull but strong headaches that go into my ear, down my jaw into my neck. I'm taking 100 mcg of Levothyroxine a day and 2 Calcitrol a day. My calcium was very low after surgery.
Avatar n tn I looked it up and swelling of the ankle area was the most prevalent side effect for amlodipine. Thirteen percent of users experienced swelling. So the doc was right. I got off amlodipine 2 months ago and have not had an episode of swelling since. It may take years for the brown to totally fade.
Avatar m tn I have recently been prescribed Amlodipine-Benaz 5/10 MG capsules for treatment of hypertension. However, my resting pulse rate has consistently been in the 90's and increasing into the 100's at time, so I have been prescribed Carvedilol to help control the heart rate. My question is, doesn't Carvedilol control hypertension as well...Why should I be taking carvedilol in addition to amliodipine?
Avatar f tn I have been contemplating whether to continue managing my hypertension using non-pharmacology techniques or to reinstate a recommended, first line mono therapy of 2.5 mg amlodipine by my doctor. I was diagnosed of hypertension about one year ago. I took 2.5 mg amlodipine daily at 8.00 pm without fail for three months until last July, 19, 2020.
Avatar m tn The onset of action ranges from 45 minutes - 1 ½ hours, and the duration of action is six hours. Diazepam carries a bi-phasic half-life of 20-50 hours (for Diazepam), and 30-200 hours (for Desmethyldiazepam). Valium is indicated for the long-term management of generalized anxiety and tension-anxiety. Tolerance will not develop to the anxiolytic property of Diazepam, although tolerance will develop to the sedative/hypnotic property.
Avatar m tn A partial µ-opioid receptor agonist, its mixed agonist/antagonist activity affords it a lower risk of dependence and abuse than full µ agonists like morphine. Meptazinol exhibits not only a short onset of action, but also a shorter duration of action relative to other opioids such as morphine, pentazocine, or buprenorphine.
