Amlodipine heart rate

Common Questions and Answers about Amlodipine heart rate

norvasc

Avatar m tn Your concern is valid in that being on both a calcium channel blocker and a beta blocker can have risks of reducing the heart rate too low or affecting other conducting regions of the heart. However, amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker whose primary effect is more peripherally acting rather (as compared to the non-dihydropyridine CCB, i.e. diltiazem or verapamil, which are more centrally acting).
Avatar m tn s at time, so I have been prescribed Carvedilol to help control the heart rate. My question is, doesn't Carvedilol control hypertension as well...Why should I be taking carvedilol in addition to amliodipine?
Avatar n tn Both Amlodipine (Calcium channel blocker) and Metoprolol (Beta blocker) decrease heart rate, if the bradycardia is bothering you, you can ask your doctor for other drugs that decrease blood pressure without reducing heart rate (i.e drugs that dilate the blood vessels and decrease resistance your heart have to work against, that doesn't affect your heart).
Avatar m tn Ok, my Bp is currently running 156/83 I just ate and I'm currently taking hydrochloric thiazides 25mg one a day I start a new medicine to combine with it tomorrow 5mg amlodipine to take with the hctz. Hope I get it controlled I'm active 22 yr old male, and no extra salt and I can't keep it down idk what to do I'm worried about the damage it will do to my body.
Avatar m tn s most likely the meds making your heart rate so low. Also, many people that are young and athletic have low heart rates. We have a Heart forum and also a General health forum here if you would also like to post your questions there.
Avatar n tn a pulse rate of 43 is may be soon after you take betablockers. If this heart rate is maintained throughout the day it is better to consult with your doctor to know whether u need to bring down the dose of betablockers.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol worked great for me used to have a heart rate of 117 sitting and 145 doing any minor task. Now my resting heart rate is 50 and doing minor tasks it is 70. Lowered my blood pressure to 110/70. it is now the only blood pressure medicine I take.
Avatar m tn Combining these medications may significantly increase the blood levels and effects of silodosin. This may cause blood pressure to fall excessively and heart rate to increase, especially when you rise from a sitting or lying position. The risk of other side effects such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, headache, flushing, nasal congestion, heart palpitations, and priapism (prolonged and painful erection unrelated to sexual activity) may also increase.
Avatar f tn P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc. Is there any other calcium blocker that doesn't cause swelling?
Avatar f tn As anyone had the stress test the two parts myacardial perfusion scan after 4 weeks the cardiologist sent a prescription for asprin , isosirbide monitrate, amlodipine antrovastatin said my scan was 15% what does this mean is this not too bad medium or high risk don’t see him for another 2 months sldo can I have a few drinks on them as Iv not had a drink I just wondered people on these meds if they have a few drinks now n again thank you in advance x
Avatar n tn Both Amlodopine (Norvasc) and verapamil belong to the same group- the calcium channel blockers (CCB) which are usually indicated for hypertension and migraine prevention. Amlodipine have very little effect on heart rate and contraction while Verapamil have the greatest effects on the heart and reduce the strength and rate of contraction. Since they have different actions, it is best that you discuss this first with your attending physician for proper management. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn I’ve also suffered from, nausea, headaches, Severe and constant chest pain, low blood pressure, and high heart rate. Usually my heart rate is around 110 while laying down and will rise to190 while walking around. Things have gotten really bad. I’ve been out of school for almost 4 weeks now. My doctor has no clue what to do because none of the medicines have made any difference, I drink 100 ozs of water a day, I eat healthy, I have my salt, nothing is changing!
Avatar m tn It all depends on the hypertension and how well controlled it is. Changes in the heart made by a known issue (hypertension, infections or tachycardia to mention a few) tend to normalize as the underlying condition is treated. The heart, like most organs, easily adapt to changed situations. In the case of hypertension, the heart walls grow to adapt to higher resistance. When such a change is no longer necessary, it often returns to normal.
Avatar m tn Should I reduce my atenolol dosage to half of what I take now ie .12.5mg to increase heart rate as I feel heart rate of 49 is too low. During day time my heart rate rages between 55 and 62. Please advice.
Avatar m tn Do you have a fever? A rapid heart rate over 100 at rest is a medically significant symptom and could be an indication of serious cardiovascular condition. There could be blocked arteries in your legs, called peripheral artery disease that may be causing your leg pain. “If you can walk through the pain and it gets better as you go, it’s rheumatoid arthritis,” says Michael R.
Avatar f tn This spell lasted about 15 minutes, fast heart rate. Should the Losartan have stepped in where the Metoprolol left off and kept me from having a rebound effect? Can anyone comment on this or offer me any advice?
Avatar m tn I was on Losartan 50mg which was working fairly well then the nephrologist suggested I switch to Amlodipine 2.5 mg. which he says is better for creatinine levels. I had been taking Amlodipine for a few weeks and BP rose. Doctor has increased to 5 mg. Not sure how long it will take to reduce BP. Has anyone any experience with Amlodipine? How is it? Any adverse side effects?
1102792 tn?1285925260 ve realised that most of my probs are caused by heavy alcohol and cigs consumption, my heart doesnt seem to be able to take the pressure of beating very fast which i believe is caused by acetlydehyde an alcohol metabolite, and narrowed arteries, due to heavy smoking, also i am very sensitive to salt, infact reducing salt in my diet has more effect on my bp than all the drugs i am taking combined, when i cut down salt in my diet my bp drpped from an average of 130/80 (wihtout alcohol consumtion)
Avatar m tn Amlodipine for BP or your heart condition. The above are a fairly standard level of treatment for Heart conditions. Its no joke and these are serious medications. So be careful, you need to fully brief your cardiologist first, on this to be sure its ok. Small irregular doses may be ok, but you need to be cautious given your previous medical history. As the saying goes, if in doubt check it out. Thats what you need to do.
Avatar n tn my sister had open heart surgery.they had to replace one of the main values.butsince she has had the operation her legs swell up.what causes that.
Avatar m tn I consistently run in the 150/95 range. My resting heart rate stays around 90. Is it normal for meds to just stop working, literally overnight? Should I be concerned about my risk of heart attack or stroke? Any advice is appreciated.
Avatar f tn You can also ask about a beta blocker which works by slowing down your heart rate. This is sometimes not a good choice for active individuals as it prevents your heart rate from reaching it's normal levels during exercise or exertion and some find that difficult to tolerate. I would start with these as they are the most popular options. All can be combined with a diuretic and all are very effective.
Avatar m tn I had a heart ablation done at austin heart hospital in austin texas in july of 2010 and have not had afib since... I had dealt with it for about 12 years ...had 12-15 electro cardioversions.......by the way the amiodarone that your one is some bad stuff in my opinion... can cause some not so good side effects...
Avatar f tn Beta blockers will decrease your pulse rate. Do you know what your heart rate was prior to taking metoprolol? They do not recommend this medication for people who have a history of fainting from a slow heart rate prior to taking the medication. https://www.drugs.com/metoprolol.html You'll also notice from this information on the medication that it does have slow heart rate or pulse as a side effect. What is too low?
Avatar n tn Yes, when I was 17 my blood pressure peaked at 250/140 and heart rate 120. However, at your age it could be dangerous. But seems like your bp is controlled with meds, so it sounds good.
