Amitiza not working

Common Questions and Answers about Amitiza not working

amitiza

Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
329994 tn?1301663248 Last summer I had intestinal surgery (a foot of small instestine removed) and it has just gotten worse over time.I eat very little and get bloated immediately. Have not gone to the bathroom on my own for 2 years. I went online and did not like the side effects of this medication or the reports written by real people. I am hoping that someone on here has taken it and can tell me what they think. I am mostly concerned about the side effects of chest pain and shortness of breath.
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar f tn Hey, You're right, that Amitiza does not work. But, my friend I happen to have found something that does. I may be wrong but it seems like the medical doctors are only interested in my pockets. However, I talked to an herbal doctor and he suggest an all natural digestive assistant called ACOG Colon Cleanse. It is also called ACOG Herbal Master Body and Colon Cleanse. He recommends it to all of his IBS and constipation patiens.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...
1704915 tn?1357601254 And I am a candidate for this surgery because my small intestine is still working. That is another reason he had me do these xrays. Not only to see if my large intestine was working but to also see that the small intestine was working. He did say that a majority of the people who have this surgery live happier lives. He did say it is a major surgery though and that with every major surgery there are complications etc.
605458 tn?1539228808 My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
605458 tn?1539228808 Myralax alone quit working and I was dealing with some serious going to the ER constipation. Very embarrassing as I know the radiology tech at our local hospital. I was put on Linzess with the Myralax. At first it was heaven then the diarrhea came. I am talking, at work, not making it to the toilet diarrhea watery diarrhea. So they say stop taking the Myralax for a week even after I already said I tried that and I hadn't gone in 3 days.
Avatar m tn Thank you for responding! I am able to have bowel movements but must take an incredible amount of fiber pills, powders. Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial.
Avatar n tn I have systemic sclerosis and have chronic gastric ulcers (no H-pyloric) and food bezoars for 10 years. I am supposed to be on liquid diet (I am not) and have gastroparesis and have gained 40 pounds in past two years. I have hypothyroidism for 33 years and empty sella syndrome. Because my TSH is always messed up docs keeping reducing levothyroxine dramatically, 2 years ago I was in a coma due to hypothyroidism and UTI which went to brain.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
1704915 tn?1357601254 ) Sitz Marker Xray = I have colonic inertia. My stomach and small intestine are working but my large intestine is not. I actually went to a colon surgeon after not getting any treatments answers from my GI dr. The colon surgeon called and spoke with my GI dr whom I was trying not to go back to as I was done with getting no answers from her. He gave me the option to see a constipation specialist that she recommended at the hospital I had all the tests done at.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I am 33 and about 5 years ago I was working out hard and doing a lot of sit ups and all the sudden in one week I had a herpes out break (first time ever but impossible since I was not active for over a year), a prostate infection (could not urinate at all, and severe constipation along with leg pain.
Avatar n tn It started without any warning and continues. Sitz marker abnormal as all markers were still present; no obstructions seen. Given amitiza; works well enough, but have heard others have much better success with it. Twice during the night I have had loss of bowel and bladder control and did not know it until I awoke the next morning. MRI's of lumbar and thoracic read as nothing of note. Where do I go from here? I want a diagnosis, not a bunch of pills thrown at me and a shoulder shrug.
Avatar n tn I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction. Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
Avatar n tn The GI doc put me on Amitiza but did not help so today (a week after my colonoscopy) she took me off Amitiza and started me on 3 Metamucil tablets every morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace each night as well. I'm waiting to see what happens next...good luck to you.
Avatar f tn No not yet i have an app in a couple of days
Avatar f tn I think it will take some time to see if it is really working as I was on vacation and out of my daily routine starting the Amitiza. This morning, my stomach isn't doing well and I'm having pain again. I'm not really sure where or what to do next. I started doing a web search for IBS food plans as the doc offered nothing in terms of diet and foods to avoid. The pattern with food upsetting my stomach and colon is so inconsistent I can't come up with a good plan on my own.
Avatar m tn Hi, Im 22yr old female. Ive been suffering from chronic constipation for approx 6 years now. I was first diagnosed with IBS but that doesn seem to be the case.. no medication or laxative have ever worked. I went for a colonoscopy last year, after taking movicol for 4 days prior and the prep to clean out the colon before the procedure, not much came out & there was still waste in the colon. Specialist reckons I have a slow moving colon, meaning it doesn push stuff out quick enough.
Avatar n tn For 2 years now i have have very little if any at all urge to have a bowel movement. I do not have incontinence though... my body just wont go! So for the last 1.5 yrs i dealt with it and then in the last few months started using suppositories for relief. If i do get an urge to go it is a very distant feeling, very faint. I have had ultrasounds, xrays, colonoscopy and an MRI. they are trying to say it is pelvic floor dysfunction but i don't have the pain involved with that.
