Common Questions and Answers about Ambien withdrawal symptoms side effects

ambien

Avatar n tn I was in the hospital for a bad reaction to Levaquin when they gave me Ambien to help me sleep. I slept, but was awakened by what felt like an electric shock going through my body from the right side to the left, especially through my head. I refused to take Ambien after that, but had a "brain zap" three more times before it stopped. When I got home I researched Ambien and way down in the list of side effects was "sensation of electric shocks." No kidding!
Avatar n tn I have been on it for 2 years on and off. I have trying to cut my dose. Can anyone give me the side effects of discontinuation ?
18070169 tn?1463175914 Before surgery, I would sometimes have aches under my ribs (typical ambien crap), but after the surgery, a lot of ambien side effects started showing up and that is why I decided to quit. So the withdrawal may be harder because of my new sensitivity. Sounds weird, but I always had a high tolerance and no side effects of any drug. But now, I started taking the omeprazole for my acid and I got pains in my colon and bad headaches (side effects of it) - which in the past, I never had.
Avatar n tn I believe most of the problems he is suffering from are side effects of the restoril. His doctor switched him to ambien cr without warning of withdrawal side effects...after a suicide attempt. I thought he was going to go crazy...jerking; crying out; standing still clutching his chest with look of horror on his face. This went on all day long. We thought it was the change to ambien (only drug being used and only change).
Avatar m tn I as well was prescribed ambien for sleep.. I have taken it the last 5 nights.. What side effects did you notice?? Thanks and congrats to 3 weeks!!
Avatar f tn Benzodiazepine withdrawal could be very dangerous and has high risks of seizures. Ambien has numerous side effects as well including hallucinations. You should consult with a doctor before managing any prescription intake of withdrawal .
Avatar m tn s difficult for me to even write this question in an articulate and concise fashion. I expected to feel emotional side effects from the withdrawal of citalopram, such as irritability and depression. But these physical sensations, such as dizziness, distant-mindedness, and a general feeling of being "impregnated in the head" are all very unexpected. Has anyone experienced similar withdrawal symptoms from either of these medications?
5093508 tn?1390543931 I am weaning off valium & zopiclone (ambien). Yes, it's very difficult on some days, to stick to the weaning off plan, but I am doing it, as I really want to get off these 2 meds. I even try to take less than what my psychiatrist has prescribed. I've researched the different ways people react while tapering their meds, especially these 2. So OK, it says anxiety, depression, anger, nausea etc.
Avatar f tn It seems that every time I stop taking ambien for a few days and I'm feeling side effects. When I wake up my head is killing me, my kidneys are killing me, and I can't stop sudden movement. I have tried to stop several times though my doctors and with therapy but its like nothing works. I try to stick with it but if I have to deal with worst side effects. I can't believe I've been in this mess since '09 and I'm taking too many to even my prescriptions out.

Avatar f tn Is this a result of Xanax withdrawal, Ambien side-effects or sleep deprivation? It seems worse than anything I experienced during previous episodes of weaning off Xanax. I didn't have to go to work while doing this before so maybe that alters my perception somewhat. At this point I don't know whether to continue with the Ambien a little longer to see if things improve. (I've already experienced performing actions which I don't remember under it's influence.
Avatar f tn Discontinuing the medications you've been taking for so long is quite difficult for almost all people in similar situations. The symptoms you're experiencing are likely a combination of withdrawal from the drugs, especially the Xanax and Ambien, and possibly a return of the symptoms that originally prompted you to take the medications. If you took high doses of these drugs, it's more difficult it is to discontinue them, and withdrawal symptoms last longer.
620048 tn?1358018235 • If Ambien is used daily for more than a few weeks, abrupt discontinuation is not recommended or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when you stop using the medicine. • Immediate-release Ambien is used to help you fall asleep. The extended-release form, Ambien CR, has a first layer that dissolves quickly to help you fall asleep, and a second layer that dissolves slowly to help you stay asleep.
1995824 tn?1330379049 Even the tiny bit that I did take helped almost immediately (within 30 minutes). The withdrawal symptoms are exacerbating the other side effects tremendously. I am keeping a sleep log and will email it to the nurse so that she will have it for Tuesday when she calls to check on me.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me like its withdrawal symptoms from the medication. those are some of them. There is very serious side effects that you should educate yourself on and ask a doctor before taking one. you where tapered off because of the serious side effects which include seizures, death, sweating, hypothermia, restless leg syndrome, and the list goes on! All I'm saying is be careful and ask your doctor if its ok. These symptoms occur with prolonged use and abrupt withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
Avatar f tn Hello, According to what I have understood you are talking about the withdrawal effects of Ambien. Withdrawal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, stomach cramps, nervousness, shakiness) may occur if you suddenly stop using this medication. To prevent withdrawal reactions, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually. Talk to your doctor and get it checked.
Avatar m tn I think it might be a psychological issue and not a physical addiction, I have not checked for withdrawal effects and if there is any life threatening ones like seizures.Check on Google for that information, if there is no serious side effect I believe that if you want and you have will and power you can overcome your addiction quite easy. You mentioned that you were prescribed Xanax for your anxiety, who prescribed it, a psychiatric?
Avatar f tn s will take me to get back to normal and sleep at least 2 hours a night? And will there be BAD withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien & Prozac in Oct 2009. I started building a resistance so my doctor prescribed for me Restoril, that didn't work so she started me on Lunesta. After I started building a resistance to the Lunesta my doctor prescribed for me Ambien CR 12.5mg. It's now March 2010 and I need 4 or more Ambien CR to sleep. I can't sleep without it!!! I haven't taken the CR 12.5mg in 24hr and I have the common addiction symptoms.
Avatar n tn I was on 1.5 mgs of lorazepam, went down to 1 mg a day and was sleeping fine at first, now I'm having more anxiety and having trouble sleeping. I'ts been about a month. I am tempted to go back up to 1.5 again but i'm trying to remain strong. I'm even having to use some ambien to sleep and i'ts starting not to help. How long will this go on? and will my sleep pattern come back? Is it possible the withdrawls are actually getting worse?
Avatar f tn I am also on trazadone 50 mg because of problems with sustaining sound sleep for 8 months after battling serious pain issues after a serious auto accident. I am having side effects such as feeling emotionally numb and my libido is gone. I have a history of panic attacks, anxiety, fears, worry and obsessive thoughts. I have recently began psychotherapy and I have made changes in my diet, exercise and I use supplements.
Avatar f tn As with any drug it seems to help some people and not others. There are often side effects from anti depressants and again some people are bothered, some are not. Once you've started you shouldn't miss a dose. It's not suggested you just stop taking any anti depressant without tapering and with consent of your doctor. Some people can just stop but many have to go very slowly in order to avoid nasty withdrawal symptoms.
