Common Questions and Answers about Ambien withdrawal symptoms doctor

ambien

Avatar n tn If taken for a longer duration, one may develop dependence on ambien. You should discuss with your doctor about the risks of taking ambient for 2 weeks or longer. Ambien addiction is a serious problem requiring treatment. The signs of ambien withdrawal are insomnia, fatigue, sweating, stomach cramps, and panic attacks. You should consult your doctor to seek appropriate professional treatment if you want to discontinue Ambien. You should not attempt to stop taking them on your own.
Avatar f tn m tapering off of Percs (I was on 7 and now down to 2 1/2) and I see people mention other medications (like ambien) while actually going thru the withdrawal. Since I won't have medical coverage after end of month and I am moving cross country, this will be my last visit to the doctor. Any advice on anything that is important they wished they had thru the withdrawal period? Or is there something for the restless leg syndrome? Thanks everyone!!
Avatar n tn Does anyone know how long you have to take Ambien CR to become dependant and have withdrawal symptoms? I have been taking it for a couple of weeks, sometimes not every night but at least the past week and a half every night. I am not taking it anymore starting tonight but am nervous about getting symptoms from this and I just got off of Hydrocodone. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Glad you're working on the Ambien taper with your Doctor. Don't be in a hurry, take your time and discuss any withdrawal symptoms with your Doctor if and when they occur. Alteril wasn't around when I did my slow 4 month taper over 3 years ago. I used other natural sleep supplements with melatonin when I got down below 5mg Ambien per night. You gotta do something to sleep during the process, which is why your Doctor made the suggestion. Keep up with your Doctors plan for you.
Avatar f tn How long does ambien withdrawal last? I have been off of it for 3 -1/2 months and struggle terribly w/ insomnia. I was on it for 4-1/2 months and it made me very sick with gastrointestinal problems, acid reflux, burning swellingin mouth, white tongue, etc. Doc did not diagnose, and said my symptoms were all caused by anxiety.
Avatar n tn You should discuss this with your doctor right away and see what he says. It does sound like withdrawal symptoms but you should make sure that nothing else is going on. You aren't going crazy at all. These symptoms are real and horrible.
Avatar m tn Hi everybody - Day 21 for me no Hydro. Things are looking brighter. Still have bouts of anxiety and depression and wake up about every 2 hours during the night.... I had a little run-in with Ambien along the way. Took 10mg for 12 nights then realized it was really making me crazy, and probably hurting my Hydo my withdrawal progression. Stopping the Ambien had it's own set of unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.... My Doc says I should be back to normal in about 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hello, According to what I have understood you are talking about the withdrawal effects of Ambien. Withdrawal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, stomach cramps, nervousness, shakiness) may occur if you suddenly stop using this medication. To prevent withdrawal reactions, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually. Talk to your doctor and get it checked.
18070169 tn?1463175914 re right, a ct off ambien cr is not recommended ... or ambien i think. i believe that ambien is not a true benzodiazepine but it acts like one / is similar. getting off both is very, very difficult, and you need a lot of patience. except the eye thing, most of your symptoms sound like things i went through as well, though i was ct'ing off benzos at the same time.
Avatar n tn I have been on a slew of psychiatric meds since last March including Ambien, Ambien CR, Effexor, Lexapro, Trazodone and now Zoloft and Clonazepam. Most SSRIs cause me to have insomnia which is why my psych prescribed Trazodone. However, I had a very bad experience two weeks ago where I even had to call 911 because I felt like I was having a heart attack. I know what a panic attack is and this was not anything like I had experienced before.
Avatar n tn How long and intense will withdrawal be if I stop 4-5 vicodin a day that I have taken regularly for months?
6074055 tn?1378958419 I don't feel tired anymore after taking Ambien for 3 years. I just got off of Ambien 2 months ago. I tapered my dose the right way. I feel like there is something wrong with my brain because i never feel tired or sleepy. I don't have any withdrawal symptoms other than not feeling tired. I feel very alert and awake. I cant sleep at all at night. I only get maybe an hour or 2 of very light sleep. It doesn't matter if i sleep a little bit or none i still wont feel tired or exhausted.
Avatar f tn s will take me to get back to normal and sleep at least 2 hours a night? And will there be BAD withdrawal symptoms?
1070971 tn?1299614110 If you have been off of them for 5 days the worst is over but being in constant pain makes it really hard I imagine since it sounds like you need them. The good thing is that it sounds like you were taking them responsibly and only for pain management and not chasing a high which some say makes it easier to quit and the withdrawal isn't as severe.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know a capable doctor in Florida who can help someone taper off of Ambien and Xanax - Tampa area?
Avatar f tn If you are missing out on time awake to join in on life, then yes I would encourage you to withdraw. I took ambien for the first few nights of my first withdrawal from opiates but I have no idea what to expect with ambien.. Keep posting and someone may relate or we will all support you in your decision to get off ambien.
5093508 tn?1390543931 Are you on an antidepressant by chance? Sometimes, this class of med (an antypical antipsychotic) CAN be used in conjunction with an antidepressant to help with the effectiveness of the AD and help with symptoms of anxiety and depression. Maybe that's her thinking? It won't help directly with any physical w/d symptoms, but if you're on an AD, it may help the emotional symptoms you're dealing with. I think you're smart to be concerned.

Avatar n tn I called my doctor and told her about this. She prescribed Darvocet and Ambien which I have taken. 2 Darvocets Monday and one today and one Ambien last night. I dont want to take anything!!!!! Can I expect the Darvos to help with the withdrawals? If I only take one or two a day will they be easier to quit? I can totally tolerate the sleeplessness without the withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome, Ambien works the exact same way as benzos. If you looked up Ambien Withdrawal you'll find it's very rough to get off of. But I bet if you resumed your Ambien just as your doctor prescribed, it will eventually build back up in your system and let you sleep again. I have to admit, I'm like you and I second guess my doctor, but he always seems to know best. A couple of years ago I was on Ambien 10mg for just 9 months and it took me 4 months to taper off of it.
Avatar n tn I believe most of the problems he is suffering from are side effects of the restoril. His doctor switched him to ambien cr without warning of withdrawal side effects...after a suicide attempt. I thought he was going to go crazy...jerking; crying out; standing still clutching his chest with look of horror on his face. This went on all day long. We thought it was the change to ambien (only drug being used and only change).
Avatar f tn Hey Shiann, I am not familiar with Ambien withdrawal. I was taking percocets but I am here if you need to talk.
Avatar m tn Hi, I can identify with you wanting to get off ambien. I hate it. 20mg is huge! 10 weeks isn't a long time to be on it, so i think you'll have mild withdrawal. Do not stop cold turkey! I was on 7.5MG a night for 8 months and now I'm into my 12th week of tapering directly off. Right now I'm alternating 1.25/2.5MG. Taking only 1.25 every other day, let alone 2.5 on the GOOD day is getting me into withdrawal by 2-3pm every day.
Avatar f tn When I went through vicodin withdrawal I upped the dosage to 10mg, which was my script max. I have had withdrawal symptoms galore. I got body jerks, metallic taste, no memory, disorientation, depression, anxiety, difficulty swallowing, breathing difficulty, panic attacks, vertigo, high to low BP... on and on. My dreams were vivid. The very slow taper and OTC drugs helped with the insomnia. Are you back on Lunesta?
Avatar n tn I am having a real problem with the withdrawal symptoms being extreme sweating, chills, cough, depression, jittery, insomnia and the chest palpitations and general restlessness. I can barely handle the sweats(I feel like a light switch most of the day..on off on off...you get the idea)but I can't handle the insomnia and the depression that goes with it. I try sleeping downstairs(couch),Main bedroom(hubby..boy I miss that!
