Common Questions and Answers about Ambien withdrawal sleep

ambien

Avatar n tn m withdrawing from Ambien now truthfully I also had to withdraw from alot of pain killers and find this alot easier then that except the no sleep thing ***** but ambien is part of the Benzodiazepines family or also just benzo like ativan, xanex, klonopin, and Valium ect which is dangerous to withdraw from its not recommended to just stop cold turkey without talking to your doctor about it better to try and tamper off of it, not all drug can cause death from the withdraw but Benzodiazepines and alco
Avatar n tn Which sleep aid is less addicting and less toxic, ambien or lunesta. I have heard ambien is hard on your liver.
Avatar m tn Hi everybody - Day 21 for me no Hydro. Things are looking brighter. Still have bouts of anxiety and depression and wake up about every 2 hours during the night.... I had a little run-in with Ambien along the way. Took 10mg for 12 nights then realized it was really making me crazy, and probably hurting my Hydo my withdrawal progression. Stopping the Ambien had it's own set of unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.... My Doc says I should be back to normal in about 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn I stated abusing ambien because of worrying and just wanting to sleep, i am stopping it now and cant sleep any. What do I do?
Avatar n tn I was on 1.5 mgs of lorazepam, went down to 1 mg a day and was sleeping fine at first, now I'm having more anxiety and having trouble sleeping. I'ts been about a month. I am tempted to go back up to 1.5 again but i'm trying to remain strong. I'm even having to use some ambien to sleep and i'ts starting not to help. How long will this go on? and will my sleep pattern come back? Is it possible the withdrawls are actually getting worse?
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome, Ambien works the exact same way as benzos. If you looked up Ambien Withdrawal you'll find it's very rough to get off of. But I bet if you resumed your Ambien just as your doctor prescribed, it will eventually build back up in your system and let you sleep again. I have to admit, I'm like you and I second guess my doctor, but he always seems to know best. A couple of years ago I was on Ambien 10mg for just 9 months and it took me 4 months to taper off of it.
Avatar f tn If you use it to help with withdrawals such as insomnia, that's what it sounds like you asking, you're only substituting another drug in place of the other(s) . Then again, it's probably worked as a 'bridge' for some people to make the withdrawal easier. But as mentioned above, it is addicting and often just prolongs the process more.
Avatar f tn How long does ambien withdrawal last? I have been off of it for 3 -1/2 months and struggle terribly w/ insomnia. I was on it for 4-1/2 months and it made me very sick with gastrointestinal problems, acid reflux, burning swellingin mouth, white tongue, etc. Doc did not diagnose, and said my symptoms were all caused by anxiety.
18070169 tn?1463175914 re right, a ct off ambien cr is not recommended ... or ambien i think. i believe that ambien is not a true benzodiazepine but it acts like one / is similar. getting off both is very, very difficult, and you need a lot of patience. except the eye thing, most of your symptoms sound like things i went through as well, though i was ct'ing off benzos at the same time.
6074055 tn?1378958419 The other thing you might be experiencing, besides prolonged withdrawal from ambien, is whatever sleep problem you had in the first place that caused you to get on the ambien. That part, the sleep study might be able to identify. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I used other natural sleep supplements with melatonin when I got down below 5mg Ambien per night. You gotta do something to sleep during the process, which is why your Doctor made the suggestion. Keep up with your Doctors plan for you. Sounds like he's really Knowledgeable about becoming Ambien free, and sleeping at the same time. My Doctor didn't really put too much thought into the process. He went with the mfg.
Avatar f tn Yes- the Ambien does put me in a fog. I love it for sleep but hate it for everything else. I dumped them out. I still have the xanax. Now I just end up taking more xanax to sleep. So- time to call the doc and get a taper plan. Benadryl works if I take a lot of them and then I feel crappy in the morning.
323551 tn?1255174750 ambien nor lunesta are benzos...caution must be used especially on a medicaation used for sleep...sleep is priceless to many and psychological...and/or physical addiction is very easy to any sleep med that u depend on every night....i think the worst thing possible is for someone to depend on a true benzo for sleep tho...
Avatar f tn Personally, I do not recommend ambien. It seems like your mind is sensitive already, and ambien may make your nights even worse. I never hallucinationed, but I did sleep walk, did things I don't remember and it created much more anxiety for me the next day. Does your doctor know about what you are seeing at night?
Avatar f tn people on benzodiazepines chronically usually end up with sleep problems as well. Whenever a sedating medication is wearing off, the withdrawal includes activation, which disrupts sleep-- and people on opiates for a long time will attest that they seem to always be withdrawing! I will do some reading and see if I can find a more 'scientific' answer-- something including circadian rhythms and corticosteriods!
Avatar m tn It appears to be similar in efficacy and like Ambien is meant for short term use only. Unless you've tried it Rozerem is one alternative that unlike Ambien or the medication you mentioned or Lunesta does not have a potential for a person to build up a tolerance to it and is an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle. You could ask your psychiatrist about that.
Avatar f tn These meds can disrupt our sleep cycles because they affect the quality of sleep and the quality of our dream sleep. Seroquel is particularly sedating, so it's natural you might have a rebound effect. You can also try Calm's Forte, a homeopathic remedy. I wouldn't recommend the ambien, it's another strong drug, and eventually you'll just adjust to it, too, and it also disturbs natural sleep rhythms.
491910 tn?1209366193 You really should be under a doctors care to taper and w/d from the ambien. And I doubt any over the counter sleep aid will help you. You are going to have to make your mind up to get off of it and be strong. I have a website that has lots of info if you want it.
1218318 tn?1266808601 Wow that really stricks home but I take a lot more ambien, I am coming of vics once again and use ambien more to help sleep. I find that xanex or valuim actaually helps me sleep more when having opiate wd. That scares me to know that I will now suffer from the other crap too. I thought if i beat the hydros I would be good. Good for you for staying clean so long!
1202033 tn?1273771354 HEY...well ambien works for some but the lack of sleep due to withdrawal can be a whole nother deal ..I was prescribed trasadone at first dident have any luck with that and b/4 withdrawals it worked good for me...my phyc dr then perscribed tamasapam it helped a little it would get me to sleep but wouldn't keep me asleep...I think the only thing that really helps is time...as you get your clean time in it dose get better slowly just hang in there you will start to sleep again...
1070971 tn?1299614110 I thank you for the advice on the Ambien. I feel like I am in a vicious cycle right now. I slept fine on the vicodin. Just when I stopped I got insomnia really bad. I tried all the over the counter remedies and they did not work. I am in the stage of depression right now from the vic withdrawal. I know if I get no sleep the depression gets worse. It feels like there is no end. I don't know if I should just try not taking it but no sleep for several days.
Avatar f tn Sorry you had to go to the hospital last night.... I think you are right the lack of sleep does add to my anxiety. I do exercise every day and it does help. But, I really think the Ambien is a BIG problem. I took 10 mg for 12 nights. I was beginning to see the light at the end for my hydro withdrawal but started the Ambien to help with my sleep. Didn't realize I was going backwards in my withdrawal because of the Ambien. I feel today like I'm back at day 4!
Avatar f tn I stopped taking the Valium and relied on 1 or half of 1 Perc to help me sleep. Ambien does nothing for me. Xanax seemed to help a little but nothing like the small dose of Perc. I started having nausea, no ambition, extremely tired for no reason, constipation and the general feeling of not wanting to do anything. So I stopped taking the Perc 9 days ago.
Avatar f tn s will take me to get back to normal and sleep at least 2 hours a night? And will there be BAD withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar m tn Hey everyone, today is day 8 with no suboxone and day 25 no pills. After my first 5 day of sub I was down to 2 mgs and weened down to .125 mg total sub usage was 17 days. For the last 20 days I've had problems sleeping the doctor gave me ambien cr and I've taken it to help sleep because I've worked all through this. So I've been taking melatonin and valerian root to sleep naturally. It helps me go down then after 1-2 hours I'm up!
Avatar n tn You are required to take these medicines to have proper sleep. If you want to stop Ambien, do so but there are alternative drugs to Ambien. One of it is Elavil/Endep. It has sedative effects and is non-addictive. Ambien is intended for short-term use. You can discuss this with your doctor and ask for substitute drug as you want to do off with this. Also get a sleep test done to know present status. Do continue taking Omeprazole. Keep updating your thoughts. Take care.
Avatar m tn what is the problem with being on ambien? i have never in my life slept like I do with ambien, I would sleep for 12 hours and feel like i merely took a nap... then I got some ambien, and, I feel so refreshedwhen I wake up, after less than 8 hours of sleep... am I addicted? Yeah, probably...but I have no intention to stop, and as long as I dont have the desire to take it during the day or something, whats the big deal, being addicted to sleep?
Avatar f tn m tapering off of Percs (I was on 7 and now down to 2 1/2) and I see people mention other medications (like ambien) while actually going thru the withdrawal. Since I won't have medical coverage after end of month and I am moving cross country, this will be my last visit to the doctor. Any advice on anything that is important they wished they had thru the withdrawal period? Or is there something for the restless leg syndrome? Thanks everyone!!
