Ambien vs xanax for sleep

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien vs xanax for sleep

ambien

906819 tn?1242453662 I was wondering if anyone has tried the Ambien/Xanax combo at night for sleep because that was offered to me. Do you find that Xanax is stronger than Librium? Does anyone think I should try the two together? The only problem is I would problem need like 2 mgs of the Xanax because of my bodies' tolerance to this stuff. Looooong history.
Avatar f tn As my stress levels have begun to decrease and with the recent media coverage of problems with Xanax addiction, I decided with my physician that it was time to try something different - He prescribed Ambien for sleep with 2.5 mg Xanax during the day for the first week. The first two nights after the switch, I quickly fell into a hard sleep with the Ambien but awakened after 4 hours feeling extremely jittery-not unexpected.
Avatar m tn I weaned off ambien and for 2 months took no meds, and got about an hour of sleep per night. I then tried anti-depressants, lunesta, melatonin, hypnosis, acupunctire all with no affect. Eeventualy I restarted amiben and alsstarted taking Xanax as well to help with the anxiety, and was getting about 5 hours of broken sleep. 5 weeks ago I tried using just the xanax with no ambien, and I am getting the same amount of sleep.
Avatar m tn I have started to take two pills instead of one (so 20mg a night), avoiding eating after dinner just because the ambien will work better, and a couple weeks ago I got so desperate for the feeling I blew it. I get the urge to do that when I do not feel it starting to kick in- most likely because I have eaten since dinner. I have only done that a handful of times, but I know it is very bad news. I knew the first time I did it I was crossing a serious line.
Avatar f tn Ambien is specifically designed to help you sleep while Xanax can help, it is prescribed for anxiety. Also, remember, that you can build a tolerance up with xanax...If you are still concerned, why not talk with your pharmacist that fills your prescription? They usually have a wealth of knowledge that you can tap into in my opinion. I have used it a couple of times and it worked...just ensure you have a fairly good chunk of time blocked off for sleep. Keep us posted!
Avatar f tn t know how the Ambien is going to effect me. The xanax at night only puts me to sleep for about 2 hours then i wake up. What should I do?
Avatar f tn I want to quit taking xanax and ambien. I have been on both for a few years. I also take Subxone. I take 12.5 mg of ambien and .5mg of xanax 2 or 3 times per day. Can I quit cold turkey without? I have heard xanax withdrawal can cause seizures,, but am not sure if my dose is high enough to worry about that.
Avatar m tn Hello and welcome. You have only taken the xanax for 2 weeks, ambien only once? Have you had addiction issues before? Have you been treated for your anxiety? Through therapy or put on an anti anxiety med? Besides xanax? There are over the counter natural sleep aids, melatonin, alteril, Valerian root, sleep by nature made, sleepy time and kava tea. The symptoms you describe sound like a panic attack. Does this only happen when you try to sleep?
Avatar m tn i used ambien with no difficulty//but some abuse ambien..i have taken it for sleep for over 10 yrs when needed without an increase in dose....and i am an addict...downers///things that make me sleepy//just r not my thing nor my doc....but i know i gotta be careful with everything i take...sleep is important to recovery....
Avatar m tn i would consider tapering off it completely and try a med for sleep. I have taken xanax for many years and at one point was on @7mg..but I successfully weaned off it. If your only taking it to sleep then I would suggest using a med designed for that and just get off xanax all together rather than switching to klonopin. Your dose isn't incredibly high so it shouldn't be too hard. You just have to go slow. I took away about 1/4 mg every 2-3 weeks and barely had any w/d symptoms at all.
Avatar f tn t tough out the sleep until it returns, please try Melatonin over Ambien. Ambien will give you some awesome sleep, but you pay for it with the dependance. You can to this....one day at a time!
Avatar m tn I have Parkinsons and sleep from about 11pm to 2 am and am unable to get back to sleep. I did try xanax about for four days in a row. I woke at 2 a.m., took a .25mg each time and it put me back to sleep from 3 to 7. Worked perfect but I hear they're addictive. Klonopin is also in the benzo class and I worry it may be too strong. Trazodone is an anti-depressent and I've read scary stuff regarding that.
Avatar f tn You have the Ambien that will help..maybe just take the Xanax as needed to cut back and give it up soon..Both meds are addicting so please be careful. Good Job on giving up the Trams..I know those w/ds can be just as bad as my Methadone with my 2 other meds..Good Job!!
Avatar m tn I have been taking Ambien 10 mg per evening for years and in take xanax only sparingly. Recently, i've had rotator cuff surgery. I was prescribed hydrocodone 7.5 mg every four hours. I decided to reduce the ambien to 5 mg due to the interaction. I found it virtually impossible to sleep in a recliner as they have suggested (due to the sling).and then began taking 7.5 mg.
Avatar f tn I don't know much about klonopin, but I was prescribed Xanax and ambien for sleep, after suffering from anxiety/emotional turmoil. I was specifically told by my GP that you can take Xanax and ambien at the same time. One is a benzo and the other is a hypnotic.
Avatar f tn ambien and all those other regular ol sleep meds NEVER worked for me....melatonin neither....i've used a natural product containing passionflower and tart cherry which has worked wonders (also good to take every 2-4 hours during the day for anxiety)....but i think most of all, what i JUST discovered, is that taking 1000 mg of magnesium RIGHT before bedtime does the trick.....wow.....i have been taking mag for the past 6 months....but like 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.....
915775 tn?1243249930 Taking these for anxiety is one thing, taking them for sleep another. I would personally turn to natural remedies for sleep problems first, such as melatonin or Calms Forte, then seek therapy to figure out what's bugging you and as the above post says, always rule out the physiological.
Avatar m tn I came off the same dosage as you 12 weeks ago, except I also quit the ambien at the same time. I was prescribed the .5 xanax for sleep and took it at night only. Well, eventually I needed 1mg to sleep, and at the same time I was experiencing rebound nausea, anxiety and all sorts or weird feelings during the day, due to the short half life of xanax. The ambien had also stopped helping me sleep after several months of usage on and off.
1687929 tn?1319426011 I am also prescribed ambien. I also take xanax so what I do is take my xanax an hour or so before going to bed and take the ambien when I go and lay down. When I was prescribed ambien I tried taking it while still being up and it didn't help me at all. Taking it right when I go to bed seems to help. I sleep a little longer and heavier. Hope this helps a little bit.
Avatar n tn hi. at this point i can seem to easily obtain prescriptions for xanax so ambien will i have to do. i get real anxious so if i don't have xanax around the ambien has to do. so to answer your questions there are days that i take 2 at a time during the day just to stay calm, then 4 to nap, then at night around 5 sometimes more. sad thing is i don't really feel much and only sleep for about three hours straight if i am lucky.
Avatar m tn So unfortunatly you will just have to suck it up if you want to get off of all of it. You wont sleep well for awhile but it will get better. Either that or take your ambien at night and slowly decrease it. That could help for instance if you take two pills cut down to one and a half etc. And I say one hundread percent do not take a vic for sleeeping...number one they arent made for that and number two you are addicted and abuse vics. You will just go back to using. Good luck with everything.
Avatar f tn yes...it is less addictive...but anything that u use for sleep can cause dependence..ambien is not as addictive for most as benzodiazepines but is addictive for many especially if used over a long period of time....
