Ambien vs restoril

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien vs restoril

ambien

Avatar n tn I believe most of the problems he is suffering from are side effects of the restoril. His doctor switched him to ambien cr without warning of withdrawal side effects...after a suicide attempt. I thought he was going to go crazy...jerking; crying out; standing still clutching his chest with look of horror on his face. This went on all day long. We thought it was the change to ambien (only drug being used and only change).
1580703 tn?1651904887 my EEG, sleep study shows I am getting 0% stage 3/4 sleep- will Restoril or another drug help me? I've tried zolpidem and it helps my insomnia but I am still have low O2 about 70% I think with my sleep apnea This discussion is related to Ambien effects.
Avatar f tn Has anybody tried the medication Restoril for treating insomnia? I'm interested in hearing people's opinions of it. Any adverse side effects? Issues with tolerance/dependence/withdrawal? Thanks!
Avatar f tn restoril should work better then ambien It worked great for me the best I have used .Here is the bad part if you take them more then a few nights in a row when you try to stop you wont be able to sleep without them .
1201433 tn?1328997637 Hi Stalion: Reference Stormy's comment. Here is the quote from the Incivek Medication Guide that she alluded to regarding Ambien (Zolpidem), "zolpidem (non- benzodiazepine sedative). Exposure to zolpidem was decreased when co-administered with telaprevir. Clinical monitoring and dose titration of zolpidem is recommended to achieve the desired clinical response." I also take Zolpidem for my drug induced insomnia. The standard version is either 5mg or 10mg. The CR version is 12.5mg.
Avatar m tn The one thing that finally worked is 10mg of ambien and 30mg of temazepam. However in addition I take topamax and vistaril. But the ambien/restoril concoction works better than anything for me I am also 6 foot 4 and 210 pounds so mg may change as well as how meds react to everyones body/genetics.
243614 tn?1266197537 I have tried the roserom, did not work. i have not tired the other two.maybe i should look them up and see what they say. I think i did have restoril for a short time, but isn't it pretty addicitive? thanks.
Avatar f tn Hello there. I need to find out how to get some help. Although, I don't feel that I've been abusing Ultram and Restoril, I do feel that I've gotten a drug dependence on both of them. I want to stop them, but I'm afraid of the withrdrawal process without medical supervision. I have always taken the prescribed amount. On the Ultram, that amount is 1- 50mg tablet per day, or I am allowed to take a second one if needed when I have more pain.
464199 tn?1206832770 How long will this continue is it permanent..? What has worked...? They have tried seroquel, elavil, benadryl, and even ambien and all the above make me anxious not calm me and help me fall asleep. Please someone point me in a direction...!!!!!
Avatar f tn I just can't fall asleep at all. I've tried lunesta, ambien, restoril and risperdal, Trazadone and serequel. Thinking about asking for remeron.. Any ideas of what might work?
1888430 tn?1322319949 No naps or attempted naps during the day.And what sleeping pill do you have?I had ambien and what I did was waited until like 12 or one when I was actually sure I would not sleep and then took the ambien.I discontinued this after a few more days.I would not use the sleepers every night if I were you.If you do the things above it could bump your sleep up to 3 or more hours a night intead of one.
Avatar n tn 30 and slept until 1:30 and just laid around until I finally got up, very groggy.I am currently a shift worker, which probably wasn't a good idea, but I find I have no problems staying up all night :) The only thing that has ever help is lexapro. I don't feel depressed but am sometimes anxious. I was told at one point that I was dysthymic. I really don't like taking an antidepressant or other medications on a regular basis. And I try to practice good sleep hygene.
4626633 tn?1382597122 Hi everyone. So, I am dealing with major insomnia. I don't believe it's opiate related. I dealt with it some prior to opiates too. I'm sleeping 3 hours a night max. At least two nights a week, none. It's affecting my health and well being now. Opiates I quit 9 months ago. Xanax, I quit in March. I wasn't mentally addicted to Xanax, but withdrawal was horrendous. I had been on 17 years. I quit only because my Dr moved, and I had not much warning.
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien & Prozac in Oct 2009. I started building a resistance so my doctor prescribed for me Restoril, that didn't work so she started me on Lunesta. After I started building a resistance to the Lunesta my doctor prescribed for me Ambien CR 12.5mg. It's now March 2010 and I need 4 or more Ambien CR to sleep. I can't sleep without it!!! I haven't taken the CR 12.5mg in 24hr and I have the common addiction symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have 16 day clean from norco today, But these last couple nights I have not slept to well so I had to take an ambien to sleep. Now I feel like I just blew my 16 days clean.Boy,do I feel like an idoit.Because of the ambien do I have to start all over with my count?
Avatar f tn I have been taking Ambien for a yr and a half. It isn't working for me anymore, so my neurologist prescribed Trazodone. I have had a lot more stress lately and this is supposed to help with anxiety and depression. I really hate taking anything new. I'm nervous. I have read the side effects. They always freak me out. Is anyone or has anyone taken this before? If so, did it help with sleeplessness? Thanks everyone!!
1690584 tn?1340297472 I have been on Ambien since 2007 but now I am having o take more and more and sometimes it still doesn't work. What options do you think I have?
Avatar n tn i am scared to death but can stand the withdrawals when i try to quit. this has been going on for months now back and forth from xanax to ambien, restoril, ativan, sometimes all of them just so i can be calm and sleep. i'm going to see a very dear doctor friend of mine tomorrow.
447130 tn?1225470866 m a walking zombie. I was given Restoril 30mg. Took 5 and woke up 2 hours later. I was also given Ambien CR but it doesn't even knock me out. Also tried Lunesta-nothing. I think I've been manic for 2 months and all I'm on is a starter does of Lamicatal and 4 days on Abilify. Does anyone have a suggestion I can bring up with my doc? He says once my mood levels out-I'll sleep but how long is too long. When I wreck my car and hurt someone.
Avatar n tn I have been on a slew of psychiatric meds since last March including Ambien, Ambien CR, Effexor, Lexapro, Trazodone and now Zoloft and Clonazepam. Most SSRIs cause me to have insomnia which is why my psych prescribed Trazodone. However, I had a very bad experience two weeks ago where I even had to call 911 because I felt like I was having a heart attack. I know what a panic attack is and this was not anything like I had experienced before.
Avatar f tn s office switched me to Restoril and off the Ambien. I still have some Ambien and can switch off with it every now and then, if I want to, but I've found that the Restoril actually works better for me. So far, I'm not on any rescue meds as in Neup., or Procrit, or Neumega as they haven't become necessary yet. I haven't needed any type of mouthwash for mouth sores because I've had none.
Avatar n tn I have tried many different sleep meds. Restoril, Vistaril, Valium, deseryl, rozarem (did nothing for me), and now am taking ambien. I have a script for regular and CR. The CR works better but is expensive so I don't take it as often. I have also tried the natural or herbal remedies such as melatonin, I don't care for the nightmares it produces. This week I tried L-trypophan complete it has niacin b6, vita c and magesium.
582281 tn?1267822196 I believe there is less of a chance of developing an an addiction to it to than taking something like ambien. The only issue I have run into is that it drys me out, I get cotton mouth the next day. I also take 50-100mg so it may be cause I take a higher dose. It also makes me sort of foggy the next day.
Avatar f tn There are several other sleep meds on the market, including older ones like Restoril (a benzodiazepene) and newer ones like Lunesta. Ambien does make many people hallucinate and behave oddly, while not remembering anything. Have you had a sleep study done? Looked at possible sleep apnea, obstructive or central, or other sleep disorders? Maybe something to explore, since prolonged insomnia can cause a lot of odd symptoms.
Avatar f tn 5mg- of Restoril to be taken prior to bedtime for sleep. As i understood it, the Restoril was okay because of how it is processed in the body as opposed to the way Xanax is processe (in relation to the telaprevir). Restoril is used more as a sleep aid whereas Xanax is specifically targeted for anxiety. All benzos have the potential to be addicting, as can many other drugs. If a drug is taken as prescribed and one uses the drug with caution, there shouldn't be a problem IMO.
