Ambien tolerance

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien tolerance

ambien

Avatar m tn I think that you are asking for something that is not plausible. 90mg is a pretty high dose. I know that a lot of people say that they take higher doses than that. Some do. The max that is approved by the FDA for treatment of ADD is 30mg. Of course, doctors can prescribe more but they usually won't. Unless you've been with them a long time you work up to it. A doctor might be more receptive to giving you more if you weren't on Ambien too.
Avatar f tn i have been using ambien for many years now. i used the ambien and it's generic form zolpidem. it has always work up until two months ago when apparently the pharmacy changed suppliers. i took the little round purle pill up until then and now i take a white oval one. This one does not seem to be working as well and the side effect just seem wierd Does anyone think that the new manufacturer product is inferior and has anyone experienced this?
Avatar m tn If you are being prescribed the regular ambien, NOT the extended-release form, you can cut the tablets with a pill cutter so as to more gradually taper off the ambien. I have had issues developing tolerance to ambien in the past; what my doctors have always done is to order a drug "holiday" —that is, a period of weeks or months off that medication so that the tolerance is reduced or eliminated.
Avatar f tn Good for you George, I have this problem but I wake up every 2hours. I travel so much with my work that my sleeping hours are never consistent. For that reason I never use a sleep aid. At only 5mg of Ambien a day I don't think you will build up a tolerance to Ambien anytime soon. Glad you can get some sleep anyway, I never seem to get more than a couple of hours a day.
Avatar f tn Can the ambien I take every night slow the healing progress in my brain I'm 16 days off hydrocodone
Avatar m tn It appears to be similar in efficacy and like Ambien is meant for short term use only. Unless you've tried it Rozerem is one alternative that unlike Ambien or the medication you mentioned or Lunesta does not have a potential for a person to build up a tolerance to it and is an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle. You could ask your psychiatrist about that.
Avatar f tn The doctor said I should try ambien and gave me a rx that I have not gotten filled yet. Has anyone tried this and how did they react. Please any input would be helpful.
Avatar n tn I have been on a slew of psychiatric meds since last March including Ambien, Ambien CR, Effexor, Lexapro, Trazodone and now Zoloft and Clonazepam. Most SSRIs cause me to have insomnia which is why my psych prescribed Trazodone. However, I had a very bad experience two weeks ago where I even had to call 911 because I felt like I was having a heart attack. I know what a panic attack is and this was not anything like I had experienced before.
Avatar n tn r u sure it is the ambien? it could be a mixture? all 3 drugs aggravate depression and out of the 3 ambien is categorized as the least addictive of the three drugs u r taking.....i would talk to my doctor and find another alternative for sleep....taking these every night could get u into trouble..have u tried the natural sleep aids like melatonin, valerian, etc?
202665 tn?1248806733 Seroquel has a mood stabilization effect in addition to being an antipsychotic so that would stabilize things in that area. I would be concerned you might be building up a tolerance to Ambien as that can happen if its taken every day so you might call this to the attention of your psychiatrist and ask about other options.
1690584 tn?1340297472 I have been on Ambien since 2007 but now I am having o take more and more and sometimes it still doesn't work. What options do you think I have?
Avatar f tn Its been tough. Was diagnosed with bipolar after a psychotic episode involving no sleep and SSRIs. Spent time inpatient and just recently accepted that I need to be on meds, Depakote has helped tremendously. I'm currently outpatient but have had trouble finding a good psych. My current pdoc is an addiction specialist that keeps trying to take away my ambien. She says it's addictive and blah blah...all I know is it helps me sleep and keeps me sane. I can live with the mental addiction.
Avatar n tn I have been taking ambien for over 5 years and I can't stop taking it. It really helps me sleep each night so I don't want to stop. I just don't want this to damage my memory or any other part of my body long-term. Any suggestions to try to get me to stop taking it?
Avatar n tn Has anyone's memory improved after stopping Ambien? I have taken about 40 doses of 10 mg over 140 days and notice a problem with short term memory. Does this get better? How can I improve it. I am done with the stuff and think it is better to drink yourself to sleep instead if you are really desparate.
492921 tn?1321289896 I do not respond to generic Ambien the same as the brand Ambien. I would recommend trying the brand, if you can afford it. It can make all of the difference. I am so, so sorry to hear about your miscarriage and your post traumatic stress. Sleep will be very important in your recovery, so I hope that you can get this resolved. I would not recommend using xanax for sleep, however. What dosage are you taking?
Avatar f tn Yes, I was prescribed ambien from my addiction doc and their is not contraindication according to her. This didn't work for me as I took ambien a long time while addicted to opiates. I amnoe presribed Rozazem 8mg. Not helping me either. My tolerance to benzos and opiated are really high! Try the ambien 12.5 time released and by God, don't chew them or they def will not work long.
Avatar f tn I have been on Ambien for years and can not sleep........I take it like at 10pm and awake around 1am...Have been having migranes for two months everyday and night. Is this due to the Ambien and being on it for so long, that now I can't get any sleep whatso ever. I will not nap during the day in hopes that I get a good nights sleep but that doesn't work either...any suggestions.........Please I need to sleep even if it's just 6hrs...I would love to beable to sleep..
Avatar n tn warning labels another. Is the only risk with taking say half an ambien tab (5 mg) after having a glass of wine, increased drowsiness? I read some reviews that say taking ambien with alcohol can be fatal; would this be for large doses or volumes of alcohol?
Avatar f tn So I take ambien 5 to 10 mg at night for sleep and I take tramdol as needed for pain 1-2 50 mg depends on how bad my pain is.
Avatar f tn I am 66 days clean off of oxy's. Here's the new problem. Since I couldn't sleep for 2 months before withdrawals, and now couldnt sleep going thru withdrawals, I asked the doctor for some kind of sleeping med. he put me on AMBIEN 10 mg's. I took it for about 2 weeks, but only cutting them in half so I was taking 5mg's a night so I could get " some sleep". Didn't want to become addicted.
Avatar m tn I've been addicted to ambien for years. What is the bets way to get off of this?
Avatar n tn s and other non-benzodiazepine meds (ie. ambien) have a cross-tolerance - meaning, the clonazepam would basically be taking care of the ambien withdrawals, at least until I stopped the clonazepam. I know benzo's are also a very dangerous drug to detox from... but I'm not sure if my dose is THAT high, and I've taken it for a while but not several years. I guess tapering the dose would be alright but I'd rather not if its not necessary. Any help would be much appreciated.
Avatar m tn I started taking Alprazolem for anxiety 15 years ago. Since then I only take .5mg at night to help me relax and fall asleep. I now find the the 1 pill at night is not helping me sleep. So I started taking Ambien CR and stopped taking the Alprazolem. I'm sleeping great, but feel terrible in the morning. I feel nausea and tingling numbnest in my arm and face. Do you think its from the Ambien or from me stopping the alprazolem. Any advice?
906819 tn?1242453662 t stand the weight gain and sluggishness anymore. Soooo, I saw a sleep doc and he has me on a combo of Ambien and Librium (I asked for Librium because I used to have an issue with Xanax and I heard Librium is the safest benzo), but I gotta tell ya, this stuff does nothing for me. I am on 10 mgs of it at night, along with 10 mgs of Ambien and the Ambien works a little, but the Librium I don't think does anything for me.
Avatar f tn t make a habit of taking unisom to fall asleep, as it is an antihistamine it can cause dryness of the throat and with long term use you may develop tolerance. Regards.
