Ambien for narcolepsy

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien for narcolepsy

ambien

Avatar m tn I never randomly fall asleep during the day (but I am on ambien every night so that might be helping). Is it possible to have narcolepsy without falling asleep during the day? Thanks!
739988 tn?1386672969 I feel for you, my doctor give me Zolpidem 10mg which is the generic for Ambien. There is also an Ambien CR. If you get it read the warnings carefully as its a very contravercial medicine. No not take at all if you are prone to sleepwalking! Safety first. I hope you get some much needed sleep. Sweet dreams.
Avatar n tn The combination of this study and my first MSLT nap study produced a perfect pattern for diagnosis of Narcolepsy. Has there ever been a study to look at the coorelation between the 2 diseases. Would many CFS sufferers be classified narcoleptic if they took the appropriate test? Narcolepsy leads back to hippothalmus and lack of production of hypocretin/orexin(?). Seems like all things lead to hippothalmus. Thank you!
1690584 tn?1340297472 did you have a sleep study for apnea or narcolepsy
401095 tn?1351391770 Is anyone familiar with the drug provigil or monafinil for enery and depression...? It is a drug for narcolepsy....wakes me up but not sure about use during tapering tabs...
12594947 tn?1426138835 For those that chose the path of medication, what sleep meds work best for you? What do and/or don't you like about the ones you tried?
1279495 tn?1271202376 Insomnia has been with me for the last 16yrs. Literally 3-4 hrs asleep a night. My brain will not shut off. I know my body is exhausted, but it won't be still long enough to fall asleep. I have tried the OTC sleep aides, prescription sleep aides, & sleep doctors, nothing works except when I take 20mg of Ambien once every 2-3 months, seriously. I guess I am just used to it that it does not bother me, I know my body is tired, but my brain says different.
Avatar m tn You may find that half the dose of trazodone gives you exactly enough help getting to sleep without the unwanted grogginess the next morning. As for Ambien, yes, like every drug in existence, it does have possible side effects. I believe it has more possible side effects than trazodone, but I've taken both without problems. A good way to reduce the likelihood of side effects with Ambien is to take it and go directly to bed.
897400 tn?1303329148 I am wondering if it is typical to have episodic periods of Waking Paralysis and Hallucinations with Narcolepsy. The emphasis is on episodic. My Dr. wants to do a sleep study, but I don't have insurance, so no deal. I don't have this happen all of the time. It happens out of the blue and sometimes happens for a few days, then goes away. I've gone years between episodes, but it is happening more often in the last couple of years. It's been happening since I was about 20.
Avatar m tn From your history it appears he has narcolepsy and is on therapy. He also has obstructive sleep apnea, for which he is not using the CPAP. Sleep apnea can cause variations in heart rate. And he should try to start using the pressure ventilation. The heart rate and the arousals you mentioned are not in the normal range. Masks can give a claustrophobic feeling to certain individuals. He could start by trying them for very short periods and then increase the timing as he gets more comfortable.
Avatar f tn t be able to sleep for 2-3 days at a time. So, my doctor put me on Ambien, which was NOT a good idea. I am and have always been a deep sleeper. I always refer to myself as 'dead' when I am sleeping because once I am out, I can't hear anything and I have a REALLY hard time waking up in the mornings. During these last couple of years I have found that I have a hard time getting to sleep at night. I hallucinate frequently- not necessarily seeing things, but I hear things.
Avatar f tn Stress can cause the falling out.. narcolepsy.. and she's already had the brain surgery a few years ago w no relief.. looking at another surgery.. we'll know for sure the 31st.. she is a fighter like all of you.. but the chronic pain is at it's peak.. it never goes away are their any non habit forming drugs that can help w that... and when she is not having narcolepsy... she can't sleep at all... any suggestions?? Just want to help my baby sister...
Avatar n tn Thank you for the suggestions.....my doctor has had me on Lunesta, Ambien, and Ambien CR. My orthopedic also had me take amitryptaline(?) - but I would feel groggy the next day. I have an appointment with my gp next week and I am going to mention the new and more disturbing episodes. I will let you know what he says.....
Avatar n tn During my first visit with him it seemed as if he was questioning whether or not I really have narcolepsy. He then said that I have to be retested for narcolepsy before my next visit. Is it normal to be retested every few years or so?
Avatar f tn It sounds like he needs to get a sleep study done, especially an M.L.S.T study, this will test for Narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is when a person can be wide awake and talking one minute and then just fall asleep for no reason. Does he only do this at night while he is driving home?? Or does this happen during the day as well?? If it happens a couple times during the day then I would say he should be checked for Narcolepsy.
2018891 tn?1329003897 Hi everyone I was diagnosed in 2010 with Narcolepsy & Cataplexy. One thing that I've been wondering, does anyone here get a severe headache after a cataplexic episode/sleep attack? I was in the hospital for a week in october because I kept "passing out" although that's not what I called it. I would feel strange, fall over, and be completely limp for 30ish seconds. Then I would get up and sometimes have trouble walking and a few hours later I would get a MASSIVE headache.
807506 tn?1248649733 Can dopamine or steriod levels be tested for example. I have narcolepsy with cataplexy but I think there is somethin else wrong. I have been on experimental drugs as well as very hih doses of prednisone(as much as 100mg boosts as a child) and drugs like adrenaline, susphrine, theophilyn etc. I m concerned that its affected me. Ive read that prednisone has eliviated eds in narcolepsy, and I tke codeint to stay awake. Im thinking certain levels may have been affected. My Dr.
12796163 tn?1436135189 I was having horrible pains since last night. Anywho, my doc prescribed me Ambien to take in order for me rest. Anybody taken this before?? During pregnancy?? Reading up on it makes me nervous.
867808 tn?1239482070 In the absence of any other medical causes, and in the presence of meeting diagnostic criteria for narcolepsy, you may want to consider that narcolepsy can manifest quite differently though with some commonalities. Seems you are giving your body what it asks for - naps. Let me ask you this - if you were to deny yourself naps for a period of days, would you still be able to say you don't fall asleep uncontrollably?
Avatar f tn I have Narcolepsy- My vitamin B 12 level is 235- should it be higher for my condition?
Avatar f tn I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I have a month until I see my neuro- but does this sound like narcolepsy?? My need for sleep has taken over my life, and it *****. I am determined to overcome this!
Avatar f tn Have they checked you for other sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy? One of the reasons you aren't getting any REM is because you wake up before you get to the REM stage. I agree with you about calling your doctor regarding this Nuvigil, as it is a common side effect that your pulse rate go up with this drug, but it's an uncomfortable feeling. You haven't told us what other tests your doctor has run? And, do you do shift work?
1287446 tn?1313947638 Hi everyone. I am not familiar with Narcolepsy or sleep disorders in general but my sleep has always been different. Typically, I fight daytime sleepiness with caffeine. In prior years, the caffeine has been a lot but I’ve lowered it significantly.
Avatar f tn i was wondering if i should be tested for narcolepsy, or if diagnosed with narcolepsy would they prescribe me to something similar to adderrall? if this were the case, being tested would not matter much if they would give me the same medications anyways. I just dont want to be misdiagnosed and on the wrong medication for the rest of my life.
1225178 tn?1318980604 Yes, I am taking Ambien CR, but I have been having to take some kind of sleep aid for years because I have narcolepsy which means the brain tries to go into REM sleep in the daytime, and can't go into REM sleep at night, so when you reach that stage, you wake up. Before tx, the only time I ever dreamed was when I'd take a nap in the daytime. I'm actually enjoying dreaming at night, but it is so strange... and I have to win this argument with my husband, you know.
