Common Questions and Answers about Ambien dosage sleep

ambien

Avatar n tn Which sleep aid is less addicting and less toxic, ambien or lunesta. I have heard ambien is hard on your liver.
Avatar f tn There are millions more people who need the sleep and rest they get from Ambien. My mom was one of them. She passed away a couple of years ago from cancer at age 87 but stayed on Ambien for years, 5MG a night, until the end. I never second guess a doctor (mom was an RN!) and always allow people the dignity to be themselves, keeping the focus on me (I'm in al-anon). Personally I felt an urgent need to get off of it and I just finished a long taper program from 10MG.
Avatar f tn Like you, I didn't think I could do the hydrocodone and ambien. I'm trying to tapper off the ambien also. I was on 10mg. how much did you reduce it and for how long? Thank you for your post.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Ambien for sleep for about a month. I take 17.5mg (one whole tablet, and 3/4 of another) because I had to increase my dosage several times, and I upped it by 1/4 tablet each time. I didn't quite make it to two tablets before I got to the point where I don't need it, but am basically addicted to it. The condition requiring this is slowly fading, and I would like to eliminate my dependence on Ambien completely. How do I go about doing this?
Avatar m tn I just wish I never had to take the stuff, but I desperately needed some sleep. 5 or 6 hours of dead-to-the-world ambien sleep is better than no sleep at all.
480448 tn?1426948538 //news.yahoo.com/fda-says-ambien-dosage-lowered-women-215300766.html Ambien can be a scary drug...while of course everyone reacts differently, some people really have severe reactions to it, experiencing amnesia, a lack of impulse control, crazy stuff. The thing is, that I bet the studies don't take into consideration the concurrent usage of Ambien, or other sleep aids, along with OTC meds that people assume are "safe", like Benadryl.
Avatar m tn The plan is to take both at betdime and gradually reduce the ambien dosage until I no longer need it at all. The trazodone is supposed to help me sleep when the ambien wears off. He said the trazodone was not addictive and I could easily quit it after the ambien is out of my system. Does anyone have any experience with this and does it sound like a plan that will work? I've only been taking the ambien for three months.
Avatar m tn I took .5 mgs alprazolam sept 5,2011 did not sleep at all. Took ambien cr on Sept 6,2011 slept 7 hours.
Avatar n tn I started with 0.25 Mg.of Alprozalam (Restyl) in 1991 and now I am taking 1.00 Mg. with this dosage after 18 yrs. I get 5 hour's sleep. I am trying to reduce the dosage by tapering off. I am not successful so far.I am 79. I am deaf since last few yrs and I have failin vision b/o ARMD. I feel tightness in my feet since last 4yrs.No dignosis is arrived at.Can it be because of long term use of alprozalm. I understand it give constipation as well.Any suggestion?
491910 tn?1209366193 You really should be under a doctors care to taper and w/d from the ambien. And I doubt any over the counter sleep aid will help you. You are going to have to make your mind up to get off of it and be strong. I have a website that has lots of info if you want it.
Avatar f tn But, in the mean time I have to figure out what is causing this because I am getting really sick from lack of sleep. I want to eventually get off the Ambien, but I don't know if this is the right time since I'm already not sleeping well. Has anyone experienced these symptoms or does anyone else have an addiction to Ambien? I would appreciate any feedback.
Avatar n tn People say some scary stuff about Ambien but it worked wonders for me. I took it for ten nights straight and it got rid of the insomnia. I had been sleeping maybe an hour a night and would walk in my sleep, make phone calls in my sleep, wake up at the top of the stairs looking down in my sleep, change clothes in my sleep. But all of that was pre-Ambien. I didn't have any of that with the Ambien and have seldom had a sleepless night since then.
Avatar f tn I know before the wd from opiates never let me sleep so I would take about 30mg of ambien and when that runsout I switch to my xanex. I sleep well but now I want to be off everything is my body gonna freak out. I take about 2mg of xanex right now. I have been reading about some of the wd from ambien and it scared me. I would of course run out of my ambien because I took triple what I was supposed to in order to sleep. When I ran out I just would not sleep for a few days.
492921 tn?1321289896 I am currently taking xanax for my anxiety and panic attacks. Twice a day as prescribed. And before bedtim i take 1 ambien. What do u thinkn about that?
1568041 tn?1311615212 Does she think it's an issue? Personally,I think Ambien is a dangerous drug to be taking all the time. But,if she can't sleep and hasn't increased her dose for a year, then this is her lifestyle. I don't agree with it either but I know insomnia can be just horrible. There are other things she can take. If she wants to try it, suggest Melatonin and Valerian root. It's safe and it works for a lot of people. However, anyone on SSRI's should avoid Melatonin.
Avatar m tn today gave me a prescription for temazepam 15mg as an alternative to ambien. He said it should give me a few more hours of sleep. Ambien right now is good for about 5 hours of dead-to-the-world sleep, followed by a few hours of in-and-out sleep. Not very satisfying. Besides, I've taken it longer than I really wanted to. I'm not sure if temazepam is better, the same, or if I'm going from the frying pan into the fire, so to speak. Any information/comments would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Not sure you are following this post anymore - but it has been a few years now, how are you doing?
Avatar m tn I am also on Klonopin (anxiety), Ambien (sleep), Seroquel (sleep), Zoloft (depression), and Vistiril (anxiety). I am sure that my doctor would not prescribe me norco knowing my other meds if it was a bad idea. Ask your doctor.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have trouble sleeping? I only average 4 hrs. sleep/night. I'm taking Trazadone 150mg. Dosen't seem to help. I'm afraid lack of sleep is affecting my health! Is this normal? I'm in week 37 of Interferon and Pegasys. Every night is a battle, for me. Maybe I've just psyched myself out.
Avatar m tn My Dr. has me on 20mg ambien (yes, a high dose). I had a Dr. suggest that I take 10mg when I go to bed, and then another 10mg when I wake up a few hours later. Does anyone have any comments about taking them several hours apart like that versus taking it all at once? The idea is that I would get more sleep, but the risk is that the after effects of it will be more pronounced the next day.
Avatar f tn Also, the top recommended dosage of ambien for people without liver disease is 10 mgs a day. Do not take more than that and certainly do not take it with other CNS depressants. Please speak to yur doctor before taking anything.
Avatar f tn I didn't notice the dosage when Dr wrote the script so I just doubled it. The rls is driving me nuts!!! Now I'm going to have to take ambien for at least 3 more days. I swear sometimes when one thing goes wrong everything goes to pot! And then I'm here whining like a wimp when there are so many more on here with so much on their plate. I know, I know, I need to suck it up. LOL I had hubby to get some sake flour so I could make a whipping cream pound cake. I still may do it.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had experience with Ambien as a sleeping pill? Does it let you sleep through the night, and if so, how did you feel in the morning? I would appreicate hearing from anyone who takes it.
Avatar f tn Its still a joke with my family regarding the ambulatory sleep with strange activities while under the influence of ambien. I fell asleep with a portion of a cheeseburger hanging out of my mouth!! I also ate a portion of some bacon grease in an iron skillet and complimented my wife on her efforts in cooking that dish! Ambien is some very strange stuff...................................
Avatar m tn what is the problem with being on ambien? i have never in my life slept like I do with ambien, I would sleep for 12 hours and feel like i merely took a nap... then I got some ambien, and, I feel so refreshedwhen I wake up, after less than 8 hours of sleep... am I addicted? Yeah, probably...but I have no intention to stop, and as long as I dont have the desire to take it during the day or something, whats the big deal, being addicted to sleep?
1737879 tn?1386202314 I am taking 10mg of Ambien at night and have been taking it for about 3 months now because I have not been sleeping. I am wanting to stop taking it. I tried a few nights to stop but never could fall asleep. how would I be able to stop taking it? I do not abuse it and only take it as directed I just don't want to rely on anything. I started taking it due to other health issues I have one being ovarian cancer.
