Common Questions and Answers about Ambien and other drugs

ambien

Avatar f tn Hi Lynne, I was prescribed Xanax (alprazolam) for anxiety as well as Ambien (zolpidem) for sleep. I didn’t use the Ambien much, and although it was very effective, insomnia wasn’t an issue for me.
Avatar m tn hey sharon - welcome. I'm 45 days off hydros and I'm almost two weeks into being off both xanax and ambien - both of which I took as prescribed and didn't abuse them. I tried to come off everything at once which was really awful so I stayed on the xanax and ambien until recently.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply. It's not me that's using, it's my spouse. I'm just really concerned.
Avatar n tn Ambien will help you get some sleep so yes I would say it is good. I worked for a Dr. before and the highest dose I saw given was a total of 12mg. So if the tab was 6mg then the patient could take 2. Taking 2 10mg of ambien seems a little high to me.Maybe someone else could answer better than me. I am one of those people that ambien doesn't work. I have tried Ambien cr, Lunesta (sp?) and regular Ambien and still couldn't get any sleep.
750172 tn?1256147076 t remember but this one lady took ambien and woke up at a police station and had no recollection of driving. Two other people that I work with also used it and began having weird recollections of what had happened during the night. It is like you lose your ability to stay in bed and sleep and you become active and that can become very dangerous. Personally I believe that this drug should be taken off the market. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I've been on ambien for over a year and just started taking percocets for a knee injury about 3 months ago. i've just tryed to go cold turkey off these drugs just because I know its not healthy. I keep seeking spiritual advice but is there something else that can be done and is it normal to feel so awful.( diahrea, hot and cold flashes, crying uncontrollably, restless legs, and insomnia of course? How long does these awful symptoms normally last?
Avatar n tn Call a local pharmacy and tell them the names of the drugs and their computer should be able to tell you if there is a contraindication there. I don't know that anyone here will be able to answer you, but a Pharmasist will. Good luck!
Avatar m tn After about a month of these issues I saw a doctor and after talking with him, we decided to try a short-term sleep aide (Ambien) to reset my sleep schedule. At first, he prescriber regular Ambien … Which was not effective on keeping me asleep since its effective usage is only for 2 hours. However, I switched to the extended release and I stopped waking during the night. But another issue has come up, now I wake after 6.5 hours of sleep on the dot every morning.
1166402 tn?1303847056 I just started 20 mg of generic Celexa (3 days ago) and the doc also gave me Ambien and Klonopin (take .25mg) to relieve the anxiety until the Celexa kicks in. I wake up shaky/hot and kind of panicky. Which drug is this from drugs, or is it still the anxiety. I know this takes time, but I don't want to mess with any drugs that might be making the symptoms worse (i.e Klonopin or Ambien). I also don't want to become dependent on the Klonopin and ambien either.

603543 tn?1255294450 Did you ask your pharmacist if abilify and ambien and any other meds you might be taking, including OTC meds, might be interacting to cause you to feel like this? Sometimes pharmacists know more about adverse drug interactions than dr's. Just a thought.
Avatar n tn r u sure it is the ambien? it could be a mixture? all 3 drugs aggravate depression and out of the 3 ambien is categorized as the least addictive of the three drugs u r taking.....i would talk to my doctor and find another alternative for sleep....taking these every night could get u into trouble..have u tried the natural sleep aids like melatonin, valerian, etc?
1580703 tn?1651904887 there are newer drugs like ambien and maybe sonata lunesta which activate the GABA receptor like benzas but maybe with less side effects. does anyone know how to cure my sleep apnea?
Avatar m tn s New Drug Applications and Approvals site to stay on top of any new insomnia targeted drugs, targeting other that the GABAa receptor. There are two such drugs in late stage clinical s. There is always hope!!
233616 tn?1312787196 I will be honest though and tell you I am still on the Ambien and have NO desire to ever ever ever go off them as long as I live. I never was a good sleeper to begin with and with them at least I make sure to get a couple of hours in. You know better than anybody Merry you just gotta do what you gotta do even if it's not any fun. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time of it.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know a capable doctor in Florida who can help someone taper off of Ambien and Xanax - Tampa area?
Avatar m tn It has come to a point where I need to medicate myself with several different medicines in order to fall asleep. I usually take Ambien 10 mg and I take two od those and sometimes Xanax 1 mg. I have noticed that Ambien doesnt really help much anymore. I just feel weird when I take it. Sometimes when I dont take anything to sleep and I manage to fall asleep, I have very vivid dreams and nightmares. Even after taking medicine, I dont usually fall asleep until 4 am and I am up at 8 or 9.
Avatar f tn I started with a big cut from 10mg to 5mg. I stayed there until I was sleeping pretty well. Probably around 3 weeks. I really haven't given myself an exact time table. And my doctor agrees. After I was sleeping well I started cutting my pills in thirds instead of half. After that reduction I only had a couple of pretty restless night's. Now I'm cutting the 5 mg into thirds. I'm really in no big hurry to get off the ambien.
Avatar n tn My doctor had me on 10 mg Ambien and my body got used to it and it became in affective. He has prescribed up to 2 mg of Ativan and taken me of the Ambien. So far, taking the full 2 mg will get me to sleep, but it sure takes a long time, 2 hours or more.
Avatar f tn I have taken Zanax for anxiety and Ambien for insomnia for 10 years. I'm 35, so the Dr. started me when I was young. I have been having back pain for the last few minths and the Dr. prescribed me vicodin. That didn't work so I ASKED HIM what else I could do such as Chiropracter, that didn't help. So I've taken the vicodin for 4 months, 2 x's a day 500mg, then this month he had to increase it to 3x's a day 500 mg.
Avatar f tn If you're saying the Effexor was working well for your depression but isn't anymore, it may be it's tapped out -- these drugs do poop out on many people. The only solution for that is to change meds. (if you do that, do it very slowly, as slowly as you need to).
Avatar f tn they either taper with the current therapy or just simply replace one with the other and then taper. you should probably do some research into how others have tapered off ambien addiction so that when you speak with your doc, you have an idea of what YOU want to do and how you want to do it.
Avatar f tn Ambien is very closly related to a benzo it is considered a Z class of drug and should never be used more than 7-10 days. The following is from The Ashton Manual Dr. Ashton has done many studies on Benzos. Ambien is listed at the bottom under drugs like Xanax, Valium, etc. Doctors have thought that Ambien was safe and are finding people suffering to get off it for months and years. Table 1.
Avatar f tn s two kind of drugs, new drugs and old drugs. In 1994 or thereabouts, ambien was a new drug and the pharmaceutical company proclaimed it non-narcotic and non-addicting. When it becomes an old drug, its "OOPS, it is addicting." While not a benzo, it has the same result of messing up your brain's chemistry along with your normal sleep/wake cycle.
