Common Questions and Answers about Ambien and migraines

ambien

Avatar n tn My headaches have become unbearable and I am having problems finding information that links the TGA, seizures, and migraines. I have never heard of TGA but looking over the past few years, I think what we thought were panic attacks were possible seizures or TGA.
Avatar n tn I am a nurse and have suffered from migraines since I was in my 20's. I am now 40 and finally went to a neurologist that specializes with migraines. I have tried every type of migraine medication(even herbal). You need to confirm that your migraines aren't related to your cycle (hormone levels) or something in your diet. There are so many different types of medications. Some work for me one week and next week they don't. I alternate my medications.
Avatar f tn I'm bipolar and taking fluvoxamine, trazadone, risperdone, lyrica, Flovent, and pro air. I've been having migraines that won't go away with ice and sleep. They are lasting for days. My dr doesn't want me taking anything for pain. Any advice?
Avatar f tn To top this off, I am a very light sleeper and have to use earplugs and white noise in order to fall asleep. My doc gave me Seroquel and it works great, have been on it for about 7-8 years. I do not take it every night because of the weight gain. I also take over the counter stuff when I dont take my seroquel. I was diagnosed with Arnold Chiari malformation about 3 years and had surgery to help treat it. I get really bad migraines from my chiari, especially if i cant get enough of sleep.
Avatar n tn ve had a moderate bilateral hand tremor as long as I can remember and no doctor has ever given me a reason for it. OK, moving on. I also developed Migraines about 10 years ago and the solution was to try a parade of instant remedies (Imitrex, Relpax, etd.) of which NONE worked. 2 years ago I caught Viral Meningitis and had ridiculous headaches, so was put first on Elavil (didn't help) and then on Topamax (somewhat helped).
Avatar n tn i have never developed a tolerence to ambien and have used it off and on for over 10 years///i still take around 2.5 mg and it works...it is not a drug to take and "stay up"..it is designed to be taken right before u get in the bed...drinking on it is a no no as u will black out.....and people do abuse it..take it a stay up and party and stuff...how i do not know as i am asleep 10 minutes later U r taking 3 drugs...r u sure it is the ambien? it could be a mixture?
Avatar f tn How many ambien do you take a night and what mg and for how long? I just text my friend who is probably still snoozing, but will hit you back soon. On your home page you will see something saying inbox. Click on that and you'll see private messages from other members if they are sent. I'll send you a test now.
1238606 tn?1304201621 Sweetie~~ Every drug you have is addicting. That really worries me. And the combination of valium, fioricet and ambien is not good. It's dangerous. Why can't you take Imitrex? Also, there's a drug called Midrin. It has a fairly low abuse potential(if you take too much to chase a high, you'll just get a little sick) and works pretty well if you take it at the first sign of Migraine. Addicts do take opiates again IF the benefit far outweighs the detriment.
Avatar f tn My 22 year old son has had a headache, and vertigo-like dizziness for almost two weeks now. Though he has a history of migraines, he says this is a dull, back of the head ache. He feels a vertigo like experience, especially when focused on near objects, but nausea has really just set in today.Until today, there was dizziness and room-spinning feeling, whether he changed positions or not. It happens most when he looks at something moving.
1238606 tn?1304201621 Well it has been a while since I was on. things are going alright, Still have lots of court things going on. Also still waiting for drug court to begin. The stupid thing is I keep getting things like ambien. My doc knows my history but still gives it to me. I am stupid for getting it filled. Since my last screw up I have done really good. It seems when the depression lows hit I am more vunarable.
Avatar f tn so there was a gap in time from taking the oxy and ambien. I also stopped taking the Cymbalta and think that most of my depression is being brought on by knowing I am addicted to pain medicine. As for the Propranolol...this medicine is for a fast, irregular heartbeat...but I am taking them as a beta blocker for migraines and I do have to mix them with my pain medicine. If I go just one day and don't take them, I end up with a migraine the very next day....so those I have to mix.
Avatar n tn Ambien will help you get some sleep so yes I would say it is good. I worked for a Dr. before and the highest dose I saw given was a total of 12mg. So if the tab was 6mg then the patient could take 2. Taking 2 10mg of ambien seems a little high to me.Maybe someone else could answer better than me. I am one of those people that ambien doesn't work. I have tried Ambien cr, Lunesta (sp?) and regular Ambien and still couldn't get any sleep.
1580703 tn?1651904887 but then if you take klonopin ambien and GABA does that permanently damage your though processes

Avatar f tn I have fibromyalgia and migraines so I stay in constant pain. I have recently started to have paralizes in my arms and legs. I mean completely to the point I can"t move my leg and it will stay that way for as long as an hr. I didn't get to see my Dr. this month I saw a CNP that works in his office and she said I need to see a counselor. What is that going to do for my paralizies?
Avatar m tn I'm no doctor, so I definitely can't give you any medical information on Ambien, but I can relay my personal experience with it. I've been on Ambien (currently 10mg) for SEVERAL years now (5 or more). I have many chronic pain conditions, including fibroymalgia. One of the major symptoms of fibro is insomnia - which I definitely suffer from!
1568041 tn?1311615212 Does she think it's an issue? Personally,I think Ambien is a dangerous drug to be taking all the time. But,if she can't sleep and hasn't increased her dose for a year, then this is her lifestyle. I don't agree with it either but I know insomnia can be just horrible. There are other things she can take. If she wants to try it, suggest Melatonin and Valerian root. It's safe and it works for a lot of people. However, anyone on SSRI's should avoid Melatonin.
Avatar m tn I understand your reservations about taking an antidepressant for a different purpose, and I would like to present some information to you that might help you understand why your doctor might have chosen this medication for this purpose. Trazodone is under a large umbrella of medications called Psychotropic.
Avatar f tn Hello mom and welcome. Heroin and ambien are both central nervous system depressants. Taken together it is very dangerous as they both depress the respiratory and central nervous system. How old is your son? Does he live with you? How long has he been Abusing drugs for?
Avatar f tn At least 6-7 years at a pop and can stop it with very mild consequences. Some lack of sleep and maybe some headaches and neck/back pain but really nothing. Try OTC Advil pm or something maybe.
1868815 tn?1412541757 The concurrent medications that I am currently taking now is Proprandol for anixety now, Amitripyline for my triptans (Day 7 still the same painful migraines), and Ambien for insomina. The nasal sprays I stop taking because of blood pressure was being low.
Avatar n tn She is sleep/wake having conversations she doesnt remember and and having conversations with us that did not happen, Sleep walking, cleaning.... Is this common and should Ambien be prescribed to teens with PTS?
Avatar f tn In the beginning of this journey, I was taking 10mg of Ambien and 0.25mg of Xanax to sleep. Now, I am down to 2mg of Melatonin and 1/4 of a Xanax. This did start the first night I went from 1/2 Xanax to 1/4, but I had been tapering for over a week and really do not feel that it could make that much difference. Has anyone else experienced this? I was so hopeful because each night last week, sleep seemed to get better, even if only by 30mins. What else can I do?
Avatar f tn I suffer from migraines and get relief from a drug called Amerge. I also take an AD, xanax, and Ambien for sleep. These drugs can be taken in tandem with the Amerge, which I only take when I have an attack. I'd suggest that you go to a neurologist who specializes in migraine, so they can determine the type of migraine that you have...there are cluster headaches, for example....one type of migraine....
Avatar m tn It has come to a point where I need to medicate myself with several different medicines in order to fall asleep. I usually take Ambien 10 mg and I take two od those and sometimes Xanax 1 mg. I have noticed that Ambien doesnt really help much anymore. I just feel weird when I take it. Sometimes when I dont take anything to sleep and I manage to fall asleep, I have very vivid dreams and nightmares. Even after taking medicine, I dont usually fall asleep until 4 am and I am up at 8 or 9.
750172 tn?1256147076 Hi, I was just googling Ambien and Lexapro and read your question. I take Ambien here and there, since I have trouble staying asleep, and have recently become severely depressed and got some Lexapro from a friend, (I know not the best thing to do, but... such is life), but wanted to know if you had any issues taking the two.
Avatar f tn I want to quit taking xanax and ambien. I have been on both for a few years. I also take Subxone. I take 12.5 mg of ambien and .5mg of xanax 2 or 3 times per day. Can I quit cold turkey without? I have heard xanax withdrawal can cause seizures,, but am not sure if my dose is high enough to worry about that.
Avatar n tn 0 mg Clonazepam for migraine prevention. Have had migraines since 13 yrs old and have tried various triptans, and tricylics. Tricyclics were never helpful, and triptans were useful for awhile and then stopped helping (there were a few that causes severe SE). I have no previous history of depression or anxiety. About 3 weeks ago, I stopped cold turkey, as I didn't feel like this regimen was at all helping me.
