Avatar f tn I have had Type 2 diabetes since October 07. I was put on Amaryl then and now am also on Metformin. I have since gained almost 5-8 pounds. Is this normal? I can't find this listed as a side effect in the drug info. I am about 20 pounds overweight and have been trying to lose that to help with the diabetes. I have a healthy diet and try to exercise as much as I can. I also have Crohn's disease (which may have contributed to the onset of diabetes), so heavy exercise is out for me.

Avatar n tn My Doctor told me (Type II) that I needed to get my A1C under 7.0. I am currently at 6.5 and with my weight loss, he is slowly cutting me back from medications.
Avatar m tn It is important that you manage your blood pressure, maintain blood glucose, lipids, weight and ensure intake of vitamins, hormones and minerals. It is advised to visit doctors every 3-6 months, and regularly keep your condition at check. Keep me posted. Kind regards!
783159 tn?1236291818 I took metformin for 6 months and it made me sick. My stomach reacted to it and I had pains in my muscles all the time. I am now on amaryl and get no side effects from it. But a lot of people are on metformin. Since it makes your stomach loose, you lose weight from it. And it controls the sugar level. Why don't they list it?
Avatar f tn We have decrmy Lantus to 10eased units in the even. and 1/2 Amaryl in the a.m. and p.m. I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(. but not this high On a regular basis.

Avatar m tn This is a question for your pharmacist as I could not locate "IP". Normally USP is Rx'd. Amaryl [glimepiride] tablets come in various forms and colors. The letters IG [eye gee] is imprinted on three tablets [blue, pink, green] to designate strength.

Avatar n tn The usual dose of metformin, assuming your kidney and heart function are fine, is 1000 mg twice daily. It may also help with your weight loss. Continue with the dietary changes to lose some weight. You definitely need medication in the evenings if your morning blood sugars are the highest, so perhaps this second dose of metformin can first be added at night to help. Discuss with your doctor. Take care and best of luck to you. You can get control of this, hang in there.
Avatar m tn You are on the right track with a plan for weight loss and increased exercise. Simplygetting down to a healthy weight (not saying that is simple to do!) can dramatically lower your blood sugar. You also need to learn about what foods spike your blood sugar and to do that you need to test. There are certainly some foods that are known to be high in carbs that will raise most people's blood sugar (potatos, pasta, cereal, bread, sweets) but it is also individual.
Avatar m tn Prior to surgery, she was taking Amaryl 1mg tablets once a day. Is this increased BSR levels following a surgery common enough, are there any implications and what should be the desired course of action?
Avatar m tn fast weight loss is most of the time lost water and muscles. Fat takes ages to go away. Third: Think of a diet as something permanent. Crash diets just help you gain weight faster once they are over. So, pick some simple rules of a balanced and healthy diet, and follow them. Don't sweat it if you crave for something "bad", to a balanced diet belongs the bad side, too. If you give in now to a small piece of chocolate, it is much better than to eat two whole packages later.
Avatar f tn Yes please talk to your dr, there are many things that could cause rapid or excessive weight loss and some of them can be serious. In addition to Thyroid and GI testing maybe ask about diabetes. It seems odd, but it can cause weight loss.
Avatar f tn I promise you your completely fine. I'm 19 weeks haven't gained any weight. Lost weight and the baby is perfect. It didn't matter how tall or how much you weight as long as baby measures up during ultrasound it's perfectly fine.
Avatar f tn More can be lost through water weight with diuretics and crash dieting can also increase fat loss but only for a short time. When we lose fat too fast our metabolism will slow in order to conserve fat (fuel) deposits (starvation mode) and that creates new problems such a resetting the metabolic rate and fat gains during the plateau, etc.
10299247 tn?1409208876 I am 19 weeks and have lost 23 lbs. I to was about 185 when I got pregnant and was considered over weight. My Dr isn't concerned at all about weight loss and I have been terribly sick the whole pregnancy too. Dr just tells me to eat what I can and what will stay down. Also to drink lots of water. Right now baby girl is measuring a head of schedule so as long as she's fine I'm fine. If your dr isn't concerned I wouldn't be either.
10025015 tn?1422498264 Why is my doctor so worried about me losing weight instead of gaining it? Before pregnancy i was 210, and today at my 12 week appointment i dropped to 198. I'm actually happy about the loss but i know i'm supposed to gain weight instead but it's just being sick & being nauseaded!
