recent diabetic in 3 wks. i have lost 20 lbs and exercing 40 min.
I have had Type 2 diabetes since October 07. I was put on Amaryl then and now am also on Metformin. I have since gained almost 5-8 pounds. Is this normal? I can't find this listed as a side effect in the drug info. I am about 20 pounds overweight and have been trying to lose that to help with the diabetes. I have a healthy diet and try to exercise as much as I can. I also have Crohn's disease (which may have contributed to the onset of diabetes), so heavy exercise is out for me.
Sorry to be getting back to you after all these months. I am maintaining a stage 3 and was on a 3 month regiment of vitamin d and we also eliminated metformin. I take Amaryl now, instead.. My blood glucose was out of control but my PCP put me on Victoza. That seems to be helping with the exception of BS levels being very low in the morning. My PCP has suggested she might take me off the Amaryl and just have me take more insulin along with the Victoza and Januvia.
I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(. but not this high On a regular basis. This Medication has surely decreased my appetite and I have lost a few lbs.

I lost 40 lb. after I started taking 500 mg of the extended release Metformin twice a day. When I got down to 190 (6'2") doc let me cut back to one a day and my fasting #s stayed the same (around 100 give or take).
Hi...I have never heard of that med, but in research see it is used for reflux and gerd jut like the meds I am aware of.
The dr will RX meds for the mgs and dosage ( times per day) per ur symptoms and how much healing u need.....I am on a gerd med and take it twice a day.....
If u also modify ur diet and lifestyle u may heal a bit faster and be able to cut back on teh dosage faster.
Sometime when she has stomuchache she take a drug which i dont remember the name .She used to take diamicron MR and it control her blood sugar .But now diamicron MR is useless ,she has to have insulin injection every evening .Now her rountine is : taking diamicron MR in the morning and lunch and have insulin injection in evening .The reason she has to have insulin injection is that all other drugs upset her stomuch ( except diamicron MR ) .
I am 42 years old Diabetic for 5 years on Metformin 500mg XL and Amaryl 2 mg. My blood sugars are not controlled. Fasting in 140 s and postprandial 300s. I am following diabetic diet and doing regular exercise/ What is the next step I should do.
Please advise. My recent A1C is 8.5.

I useVagisil cream and Desitin ontment for the after bowel movement burning pain that comes and goes sometimes lasting for hours I also take medication for Type 2 Diabetes,Glucophage 2000 milligrams a day and 2 milligram amaryl tabs a day. Could that also be causeing this problem?. Please tell me what you think. Thankyou.

I have been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes for about 5 years now...I think I had the problem well before that but I had a doctor who would never run the test (just lose some weight, etc). I'm not very good about keeping my levels under control because I get so discouraged that I just give up from time to time.
If in fact you are a type 1 diabetic, you should not be taking Amaryl. I would say to find yourself a new doctor if he/she thinks that Amaryl is appropriate for juvenile diabetes. But, perhaps there is something I don't know.
Otherwise, just cautiously play with your carbohydrate intake and your insulin dosages. Yes, I agree that a doctor should be consulted about this at first, but eventually you should be running the show.
I wondered because they only ever had me take the antipsychotics I've taken once a day and I always heard everyone else talk about taking them twice a day. I'm only awake 12 hours or less a day and the current one I'm on has a half life of 3 days so I guess it's kind of pointless for me to take it twice a day.
I do not have insurance and am unable to see a doctor. I get my diabetic medical treatment at a clinic. They are not equiped to handle nerve issues. We have a local hospital that takes people who cn not pay for services but it will take at least 3 weeks to get registard and make an appointment. should I wait for the appointment or should I try some other way to see a doctor immediately? Can anyone give me any advice.
- B2 @ 400mg a day (it has to be 400mg a day. you don't need anymore than that though)
- Magnesium @ 400mg a day (you can take less if it upsets your stomach.. but try to work up to 400mg a day)
If the progesterin isn't helping after another month or two... you could try estrogen during the week of your mensuration... it has Really improved my migraine situation I think. I use a gel form that people usually use during menopause but...
