Avatar f tn Thank You for your comments. Amaryl and Lantus is what the Dr. has taken away, to try this Victoza!!!! Not eating alot of carbs, but still having these numbers. So has been hard with numbers that high at a meal time and when I'm hungry. Devreased appetite has been good and down a few lbs., but afarid Victoza will not work for me?? Since my A1c has been 6.6 on the past meds, I guess why change a good thing. Was my thought, but was willing to give it a try.
Avatar m tn Prior to surgery, she was taking Amaryl 1mg tablets once a day. Is this increased BSR levels following a surgery common enough, are there any implications and what should be the desired course of action?
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes one and a half months ago. I started taking insulin novomix since last one month. My highest sugar reading was 469.
Avatar m tn Metformin has been around for a long time, and is pretty effective at decreasing insulin resistance. It might increase liver enzymes a touch, but it’s usually a pretty good trade off. If you initiate metformin, you might get some mild to moderate GI issues; but these generally resolve after several weeks. Keep up with diet and exercise though; it really is an important component of DM II management, like it or not. What sort of A1c numbers are you getting? Are you considering HCV therapy?
Avatar m tn I am maintaining a stage 3 and was on a 3 month regiment of vitamin d and we also eliminated metformin. I take Amaryl now, instead.. My blood glucose was out of control but my PCP put me on Victoza. That seems to be helping with the exception of BS levels being very low in the morning. My PCP has suggested she might take me off the Amaryl and just have me take more insulin along with the Victoza and Januvia. At this point we're experimenting with the meds to see what works better.
Avatar m tn I am a diabetic 2 since last 30 years.I take 8mg of Amaryl in the morning and 2 to 4mg in the evening (prescribed by an Internist 14 years ago). I also take Metformine 1000mg once in the morning and once in the evening. My last HbA1c (in February,2009) was 126 ( 7.00 mol/lit.) I was asked to see a diabetic nurse (as a normal routine) and she has aproblem with the dose of drugs that I take and advises me to shift to insulin. The doctors did not have any problem with my medication though.
Avatar n tn Typically people with diabetes while pregnant are treated with diet, and if diet alone cannot control blood sugars then they are given insulin. This is because these drugs can cross the placenta and affect the baby. However, insulin does not cross the placenta. Controlling blood sugar to normal levels during pregnancy is important to having a healthy pregnancy. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I have had Type 2 diabetes since October 07. I was put on Amaryl then and now am also on Metformin. I have since gained almost 5-8 pounds. Is this normal? I can't find this listed as a side effect in the drug info. I am about 20 pounds overweight and have been trying to lose that to help with the diabetes. I have a healthy diet and try to exercise as much as I can. I also have Crohn's disease (which may have contributed to the onset of diabetes), so heavy exercise is out for me.
1111143 tn?1259092353 I am still taking 1000mg of Metformin each morning, but she removed me from Januvia and Amaryl when she gave me the insulin. She did not give me a maximum dose for the insulin. Just one shot a day, just before bed. Start with 20 units and increase gradually until my morning BG is below 120. I've already got a call into her nurse letting her know it doesn't seem to be helping much and that I'm already up to 45 units before bed.
Avatar m tn Hi Pete and welcome. First of all what you should do is take a deep breath. Diabetes is a lot to adjust to, especially when you are so young and don't expect illness. I won't tell you there isn't a lot to learn, there is, but the good news is that once you learn it, diabetes is a very manageable condition. You just have to get into the right habits. First of all, your fear about insulin is way premature.
Avatar m tn This is a question for your pharmacist as I could not locate "IP". Normally USP is Rx'd. Amaryl [glimepiride] tablets come in various forms and colors. The letters IG [eye gee] is imprinted on three tablets [blue, pink, green] to designate strength.
783159 tn?1236291818 I took metformin for 6 months and it made me sick. My stomach reacted to it and I had pains in my muscles all the time. I am now on amaryl and get no side effects from it. But a lot of people are on metformin. Since it makes your stomach loose, you lose weight from it. And it controls the sugar level. Why don't they list it?
Avatar n tn Good afternoon. I have been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes for about 5 years now...I think I had the problem well before that but I had a doctor who would never run the test (just lose some weight, etc). I'm not very good about keeping my levels under control because I get so discouraged that I just give up from time to time.

Recently, i was laying down and when I got up I felt my neck grinding. A few days later I noticed my tonuge was numb and tingling. then I noticed my right eye and right side of my face and head was numb. I have been having reduced mucle movement on that side. I do not have insurance and am unable to see a doctor. I get my diabetic medical treatment at a clinic.

519736 tn?1253986826 thanx for your quick reply. I did have black coffee right before the test. I have hypothyroidism. It was a new Endo I saw last June that ordered the blood work. He did not inform me of the insulin of 109 until August. And he told me I was "becoming insulin resistant". My glucose was normal. I'm confused. Are insulin and blood sugar the same thing?
Avatar f tn He has been covered for ALL his supplies, including insulin, through Medicaid, up until he is now at the age of 21-1/2 years old. He works for a minimum wage job and rents with his sibling. My question is, where does one go to get help getting their insulin for low cost? There is no way he can afford over $500 a month for his insulin and pump supplies.
Avatar n tn The currently accepted treatment of choice is a basal (long-acting) insulin like Lantus once or twice a day and a bolus or rapid acting insulin before meals. A fixed dose of bolus like you describe is not as good as developing a carb ratio. You need to take the correct insulin dose each meal to cover what you eat (unless you want to eat the same thing every meal!).
