I have had Type 2 diabetes since October 07. I was put on Amaryl then and now am also on Metformin. I have since gained almost 5-8 pounds. Is this normal? I can't find this listed as a side effect in the drug info. I am about 20 pounds overweight and have been trying to lose that to help with the diabetes. I have a healthy diet and try to exercise as much as I can. I also have Crohn's disease (which may have contributed to the onset of diabetes), so heavy exercise is out for me.

I would find another doc.; I agree with selmaS something is not right. When you do find another doc give them a good "interview" as I call it before you even go. Read abouit thier credentials, a lot of hospitals have their doctor's papers/acheivements/ credentials listed. It's so frustrating and dangerous when doctors do this. Fwiw: I had a similar experience with a local ns here in N. Al.

Amaryl should be the solution.Seems you've developed immunity to Starlix.

I'm curious how many folks have been diagnosed with depression rather than a doctor acknowledging CMI? I had a CAT & MRI, I absolutely have a fatty tumor on the brain & Chiari Malformation I with tonsils fully decended down the foramen mangum. This is a question for your pharmacist as I could not locate "IP". Normally USP is Rx'd. Amaryl [glimepiride] tablets come in various forms and colors. The letters IG [eye gee] is imprinted on three tablets [blue, pink, green] to designate strength.

The reason she has to have insulin injection is that all other drugs upset her stomuch ( except diamicron MR ) .Doctor has prescribed her with Amaryl ,Glucophage ,Glucobay ,but they upset her stomuch .Although she take it after meal but she still have stomuch pain .So I want to ask what diabet drugs that don’t upset stomuch (because she hate to take insulin injection ).

All came back normal, except her MRI with contrast showed CMI with 6mm. No symptoms for CMI so she was labeled asymptomatic. She got an infection and a blood clot from the IV when she got the MRI, and was put on an antibiotic and aspirin. It (the infection and clot) cleared-up after a couple of weeks, but at about the exact same (late Dec) she felt nauseous, had neck pain, and a radiating headache. This went on for about 4 days, and then began to wane.

I am maintaining a stage 3 and was on a 3 month regiment of vitamin d and we also eliminated metformin. I take Amaryl now, instead.. My blood glucose was out of control but my PCP put me on Victoza. That seems to be helping with the exception of BS levels being very low in the morning. My PCP has suggested she might take me off the Amaryl and just have me take more insulin along with the Victoza and Januvia. At this point we're experimenting with the meds to see what works better.

We have decrmy Lantus to 10eased units in the even. and 1/2 Amaryl in the a.m. and p.m. I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(. but not this high On a regular basis.

I took metformin for 6 months and it made me sick. My stomach reacted to it and I had pains in my muscles all the time. I am now on amaryl and get no side effects from it. But a lot of people are on metformin. Since it makes your stomach loose, you lose weight from it. And it controls the sugar level. Why don't they list it?

Hi all - I was diagnosed with CMI just about 2 years ago after a particularly symptomatic bout. In addition to CMI, I was found to have a 4.5 CM posterior fossa arachnoid cyst, which may be the cause for the CMI. Since diagnosis, I have been dealing with it symptomatically (managing headaches, mostly). However, I was recently found to have significant high-frequency hearing loss, and have been suffering from significant tinnitus for 6+ months now.

selmaS is wise. Fwiw I have to warn MRI technicians that certain positions agrivate my CMI issues. Usualy they try to accomidate me anyway they can; they just often don't think about what certain positions do to a person with neuro issues.

Prior to surgery, she was taking Amaryl 1mg tablets once a day. Is this increased BSR levels following a surgery common enough, are there any implications and what should be the desired course of action?

I am 42 years old Diabetic for 5 years on Metformin 500mg XL and Amaryl 2 mg. My blood sugars are not controlled. Fasting in 140 s and postprandial 300s. I am following diabetic diet and doing regular exercise/ What is the next step I should do. Please advise. My recent A1C is 8.5. Thank you.

I have been unable to contact the individuals who have been documented to have gone through a similar experience. I have reasonable CMI but virtually no passive immunity, (humoral) for this virus. (characteristic lesion, prodrome and localised reactiviation confirms original infection, IgG negative, no florid eruptions so expectation is that CMI is still effective).

I have been controlling my type 2 diabetes with actos, lipitor, lisinopril, amaryl, and metfirman for the last 2 years. Recently, i was laying down and when I got up I felt my neck grinding. A few days later I noticed my tonuge was numb and tingling. then I noticed my right eye and right side of my face and head was numb. I have been having reduced mucle movement on that side. I do not have insurance and am unable to see a doctor. I get my diabetic medical treatment at a clinic.

If in fact you are a type 1 diabetic, you should not be taking Amaryl. I would say to find yourself a new doctor if he/she thinks that Amaryl is appropriate for juvenile diabetes. But, perhaps there is something I don't know. Otherwise, just cautiously play with your carbohydrate intake and your insulin dosages. Yes, I agree that a doctor should be consulted about this at first, but eventually you should be running the show.
