amaryl and metformin

hi, the side of amaryl is weaight gain and the metformin causes weaight loss but in combination also you will gain some weaight.

I took metformin for 6 months and it made me sick. My stomach reacted to it and I had pains in my muscles all the time. I am now on amaryl and get no side effects from it. But a lot of people are on metformin. Since it makes your stomach loose, you lose weight from it. And it controls the sugar level. Why don't they list it?

Amaryl and Metformin are about the limit of my expereince. I was on insulin for a while but goal was to get off all meds with behavior changes. As for the weight, I have the opposite problem. My walking burns the weight but my avoidance of a lot of foods keeps me from keeping up. I'm in the low end of BMI and I'm still trying to master the eating side of things which I haven't completely figured out yet.

I am maintaining a stage 3 and was on a 3 month regiment of vitamin d and we also eliminated metformin. I take Amaryl now, instead.. My blood glucose was out of control but my PCP put me on Victoza. That seems to be helping with the exception of BS levels being very low in the morning. My PCP has suggested she might take me off the Amaryl and just have me take more insulin along with the Victoza and Januvia. At this point we're experimenting with the meds to see what works better.

I am 42 years old Diabetic for 5 years on Metformin 500mg XL and Amaryl 2 mg. My blood sugars are not controlled. Fasting in 140 s and postprandial 300s. I am following diabetic diet and doing regular exercise/ What is the next step I should do. Please advise. My recent A1C is 8.5. Thank you.

We have decrmy Lantus to 10eased units in the even. and 1/2 Amaryl in the a.m. and p.m. I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(. but not this high On a regular basis.

Thank you so much for your help. I contacted my doctor and he upped my metformin to 1000mg in the am and 1000mg in the pm. My blood sugar is 130 right now...the lowest it has been since being diagnosed. Thank you so much!

There are six classifications of oral diabetes medications sold in the USA with several drugs listed under each. Amaryl and Diamicron MR are listed as Sulfonylureas yet appear to affect your grandmother differently. Everybody is different; one drug may cause discomfort in one patient yet it does not in another.

When I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic in October of 2009, I walked into my doctor's office with a ravenous thirst I can't even begin to explain, and I was urinating every 20 minutes. I had been borderline for years, but I knew what was going on. I just didn't want to admit it. I thought, hey, I'll take some meds and I'll be fine. My sugar was 577!! The med assistant couldn't figure out why I wasn't in a coma!! My A1c was 11.7!!

I have psco my dr put me on metformin I have been taking it for a long time.. Its helps with my psco it also helps me get preg.. When I get preg my dr takes me off the metformin..I have had 2 mc in a row one at 9wks and the second one 18wks.. I just wondering if anyone has stayed on metformin when they were preg.. I was on web sites about metformin & psco and they r saying that people with psco have a higher risk of mc...

I have been on Synthyroid since may but now I was recently prescribe Metformin. I forgot to ask if it safe to take Metformin with Synthyroid at the same time. Does anyone if it would be ok?

I too have PCOS and my doc just put me on Metformin to help me Ov I was on clomid for 6 months and only Ov once the whole time now he took me off the clomid and just put me on Metformin and told me that it will help with my Ov I am not insulin resistance but he says it will help me to Ov. I am not over weight and I am over all healthy thank god. I hope it helps you and I both to Ov.

I have PCOS too and I am on metformin. It didn't work for me though. I ovulated only with injectibles. But my friend(very lucky) she got pregnant on metformin and her dd is 13 months old.

Yes Metformin can cause weight loss, I lost about 25 needed lbs real quick with a low carb, nothing white diet. I have tried not very successfully before metformin and did not lose the weight. My weight loss has slowed down since I got over the intial scare of being diagnosed with type 11 diabetes. and learn more of what I can eat and what I should not. My best to you mom...

I am still taking 1000mg of Metformin each morning, but she removed me from Januvia and Amaryl when she gave me the insulin. She did not give me a maximum dose for the insulin. Just one shot a day, just before bed. Start with 20 units and increase gradually until my morning BG is below 120. I've already got a call into her nurse letting her know it doesn't seem to be helping much and that I'm already up to 45 units before bed.

I gave myself a 6 month break from the pill, and only stayed on metformin...and had 5 normal periods, but went back on the pill in Jan 2010 because my period was 10 days late. Did I ovulate during those times? I'm not really sure...I don't track it, but I can remember feeling some twinges around that time and a change in CM...so who knows. I've never missed a period for as long as I could remember (well except last month).

No, the rate decrease if your taking metformin. I also have PCOS and I had a miscarriage in October..every since then I haven't had a period or ovulate on my own so my doctor put me on provera, metformin, and letrozole(femara) to get pregnant but the metformin alone will help you NOT to have a miscarriage...good luck to you sweetie. I think you should ask your doctor about taking metformin, it corrects PCOS also...

Also on fertility medicine Femara and thyroid medicine, typing to get pregnant. I need some fruit to take Metformin. Just Metformin is making me more nauseous and discouraging. So I eat one date fruit with every Metformin i,e just after swallowing Metformin. Is this okay?. Also I eat grapes now whenever I feel like need more energy to move around. Is that good? i am on metformin and thank good it is working for me i used to weight 115 after pcos went to 170 now i am on 160 lost ten pound after i started metformin.but you dont loose it right away so keep on it.

This question is not exactly about Diabetes, but because metformin HCL is used in Diabetes treatment, I would like to know of any of you has experience with this medicine. Can you tell me about its side effects? Recently I went for a checkup and my doctor gave me Metformin for weight loss (It suddently went up to 99 kg though I was at 85 before and was following a strict diet plan).
