Altace ace inhibitor

Common Questions and Answers about Altace ace inhibitor

altace

Avatar m tn My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks. I have read that ace-inhibitors can cause an increase in potassium levels. Any comments? Are there alternatives to ace inhibitors?
Avatar f tn Wouldn't an Ace Inhibitor work better? I was on Altace and had problems. Then they put me on the Lopressor (metoprolol) along with the Altace. The altace lower my blood pressure too much, so I stick with the beta blocker and leave out the ace inhibitor. That works for me. But man oh man, I cannot run out of the beta blocker without servious side effects. Maybe in this case using both would help more.
Avatar f tn Altace is an Ace Inhibitor. Toprol XL is a Beta-Blocker. If you have had your blood pressure taken soon after you have been rushing around and exercising, drinking a hot drink like coffee as well as talking whilst the blood pressure is being taken, then the blood pressure will be increased. As you have been exercising, make sure that you are drinking plenty of water so that you do not become dehydrated.
Avatar n tn , and have had the side effects of weight gain, slow metabolism, high cholesterol, and insomnia, and would like to know if I could just increase the dosage of the ace inhibitor -altace that I am also taking for this? And then maybe slowyly getting off and away from the beta blocker completely!
15695260 tn?1549593113 Certain medications that have been prescribed to lower blood pressure can slow dementia in seniors. ACE inhibitors showed a somewhat slower decline in memory and other mental skills than patients not on the drugs for some patients. Common medications in this class of drugs are commonly used medications such as captopril (Capoten), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Prinivil or Zestril), perindopril (Aceon), ramipril (Altace) and trandolapril (Mavik).
544430 tn?1283712658 Is Ramipril an ace inhibitor? If so then it's the ace inhibitor. I'm on an ace inhibitor too and I have the cough, BUT I think the cough is better to have than the high blood pressure, BUT only if the cough isn't too much of a bother and doesn't keep you awake at night.
Avatar n tn I am taking both Beta Blocker and ACE inhibitor, should both be taken in the morning?
Avatar m tn I perceive that if you are taking an ace inhibitor & then add a diuretic you would have to reduce the ace inhibitor dose to offset the diuretic as the heart would have to beat faster due to the dilation and less fluid. Would this combination cause tachycardia and how should the dose be regulated?
Avatar f tn Reduce cardiac workload...I take an ACE inhibitor and a beta blocker (coreg) to reduce the heart's workload. The ACE inhibitor dilates vessels, etc. and most beta blockers slows and stabilizes the heart rate, but Coreg is not just a beta blocker, it also has some ACE inhibitor characteristics as well.. Doesn't the AICD control the heart rate and negate that aspect of Coreg?

Avatar n tn An ACE inhibitor dilates vessels. A dilated vessel offers less resistance and as a result blood pressure in lowered. The timing of the effects may be of less help at intervals you describe. Also, dosage may inadequate.
Avatar m tn A beta blocker is primarily a medication for controlling heart rate. An ACE inhibitor is the most oftened prescribed medication for high blood pressure. If an ACE inhibitor has not provided relief or there are a lack of tolerance, then a calcium channel blocker. Consult with your doctor. Thanks for the question, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.
Avatar n tn Lisinopril is a medicine in the pharmaceutical class called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE inhibitor medicines have as one of their adverse side effects, the ability to cause cough in an individual who has not previously had a cough; a cough that persists as long as the medicine is taken. You should share this occurrence with your doctor and he/she will probably want to prescribe another blood pressure medicine, not in the ACE inhibitor class.
Avatar m tn They currently put me on ACE inhibitor and beta blocker for my hypertension.
Avatar n tn The only reason to not use an ACE inhibitor is if you have a cough with the ACE inhibitor or if you like to give pharmaceutical companies lots of extra money so they can pay their CEO's. If it stays up, you probably need more blood pressure medications. I hope this helps.
907812 tn?1245739802 Looking back, I think it may have been caused by taking the inappropriate BP medication. Somehow, my PCP was stuck in ace inhibitor land, which may be an excellent BP pill but didn't do the trick for me during tx, even though we gradually quadrupled the dose. The ace inhibitor couldn't bring down my isolated diastolic (resting number) no matter what. My pulse rate slowed down within two days of stopping the riba and I'm gradually reducing the ace inhibitor.
Avatar f tn I have been taking lisinopril for about 7 years without any notable side effects. There are different mechanism that can reduce high blood pressure. Lisinopril blocks angiotensin and angiotensin constricts vessels and when angiotensin is controlled blood vessels relax and as a result better blood flow. However, scientists also believe that the angiotensin-converting enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of other substances in the lungs.
Avatar m tn Just a choice I made for myself, and I stopped taking an ace inhibitor. My heart rate and blood pressure would get too low if I took the Altace with the others. I take Metropolol, Isosorbide (Isordil), Norvasc, Tricor, and Nitro as needed, but stopped a few of the other drugs. As far as walking, it is still an effort for me to get started. I am so sleepy at times, but I know it is doing me a world of good. Did they mention doing a bypass? I have a stent in my RCA.
Avatar n tn Dr that did heart cath wanted me to start Linsopril ace inhibitor but several years ago I tried accupril and had partial swellin on my face so I was afraid to try another ace inhibitor but now I wonder if I should have. The cardiologist I first saw put me on Atenolol, Isosorbide and nitroquick. I was using between 4 and up to 10 nitros a day with these other meds so he added Ranexa. I worry because I have family history of cancer and I have a fatty liver.
Avatar f tn However, if medication is prescribed it is an ACE inhibitor. This medicaion prohibits the kidneys fro producing angiotension. Angiotension is hormone that suppresses as a vasoconstrictor. Or there can be ARB and that lowers blood pressure by binding angiotensin to a receptor. Either can be effective and the combination of the two can be an option as well. What meds have you tried.
Avatar f tn Hopefully, other members who are on an ACE inhibitor will respond.
Avatar m tn What is the range of optimum tolerated bp, How many do not tolerate even a low dose of beta blocker and does it matter that much if this is discontinued providing bp, pulse and heart rhythm are still controlled, or should the ACE inhibitor be reduced or stopped first?
Avatar m tn The usual protocol for the heart problem you describe is an ACE inhibitor (dilates vessels) and coreg (beta blocker and ACE inhibitor) and that will help get BP under control.
Avatar m tn For some insight angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and the angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drugs both affect the renin-angiotensin hormonal system which helps regulate blood pressure. Hope this is the information you are looking for, if not you are welcome to followup with another post. Thanks for the question and take care.
Avatar m tn after surgey i was put on beta blocker for bloo pressure and then 3 months ago I was switched to ace inhibitor medicine to control blood pressure. . I am concerned about this low blood pressure. could some body explain , if these are bad symptoms for something worse to happen.
Avatar n tn The medication I took and take is a beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, etc. The medication will dilate vessels and the heart will not have a high resistance to pump against, and the beta blocker/ACE inhibitor will reduce heart rate as well. It took about a year for me to go from an EF 13-29% and heart size returned to normal. A dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) can have other causes, and it is difficult to assess without knowing the underlying reason. I can only relate my experience.
Avatar n tn Is this a normal by product of the surgery, anesthesia or due to the ace inhibitor or beta blocker? He is on 2 mg Lisinopil and 35 mg of metapolol.
