365714 tn?1292199108 Hey MJ...ZG just said exactly what I was going to. You've been around cats a long time and I don't believe an allergy to cats would pop up overnight. You could also be suffering from rebound pain from stopping the otc meds, meaning your headache may get worse before it gets better.
Avatar n tn s boyfriend said that his mom is allergic to cats. He says that my daughter would not be able to go over to his house and he would not be able to visit our apartment. I've never heard of someone having a reaction when they are not in direct contact with the cat or the environment. His mother has never been over to our house. Just trying to understand.
599616 tn?1219704608 My husband is horribly allergic to my cats as well. He goes to the doctor every month and gets an allergy shot which helps his symptoms. Some days are worse than others still, we can't let the cats in our bedroom because he wouldn't be able to breathe through the night if we did. You might also want to check with your doctor about getting allergy shots if you have a good health insurance plan.
Avatar m tn Cats can be allergic to dust, mold, and even other cats. But it is very likely that it is a food allergy. I might suggest switching to a natural grain free cat food and keeping his claws well trimmed, this worked for my kitty at least (with the help of a cone to stop her from irritating her sores while they were healing.) Good luck!
Avatar f tn ) But the usual way for a person allergic to cats to present with that allergy is by runny eyes and sneezing, not itching. Itching is usually from skin contact. Have you changed your laundry detergent or soap lately?
440120 tn?1211724496 I've recently been to an allergist because of newly acquired allergies. I'm 43. I developed an allergy to cats in my 20s after having cats since I was a child. I got a new kitten and found that her saliva gave me hives. Since then I've always had a mild cat allergy. I was tested and found allergic to cats and dogs and a mild reaction to milk. Everything else was negative.
Avatar n tn Anyone know if it is possible to develop an allergy to cats over time? And if it can take the form of a slight, skin-based reaction? Over the past few days all of the tiny cat scratched on my body (and there are a ton; I have two kittens) have become red, inflamed and itchy. Agh!
Avatar m tn Hello, My question is the following. A couple of months ago my fiance and I got a cat, the first day I had an allergic reaction immediately, red eyes, sneezing and nasal congestion.
937955 tn?1297288746 I was told that tuna is too rich to give to cats, but I know they love it so I give mine one little pinch when I open a can and/or the tuna juice. They lap that right up. But I only do this maybe a couple of times a month or whenever I open a can, just enough to give them a little taste.
Avatar f tn What is safe to take for allergies when ur pregnant...gotta to move n with my aunt and grandma for a bit and they have 19 cats that are indoor and out door cats..i can be around them for a little bit but not long time..
Avatar n tn Thank you for your input. I am assuming that the hives are caused by my cats, I did not discuss with my medical oncologist yet. I was wondering when my WBCs get normal, will I no longer have this allergy. From what I'm seeing on your response, if it is an allergy to my cats, It will not go away. I've had my cats 10 years and never had an issue prior to chemo?
Avatar n tn Allergy desensitization shots or immunotherapy are an obvious and very effective way to work around a cat allergy. Immunotherapy will gradually make a person more and more resistant to the allergens. The goal of immunotherapy is to increase the tolerance 10 times. This is one of the most effective treatments because it treats the cause and doesn’t just hide the symptoms. http://purebredcatbreedrescue.org/allergy_to_cats.
Avatar n tn She needs to be allergy tested to see if she is allergic to cats. No allergy to them = should not have any problems with asthma. However, you can become allergic to them years after, I had my one cat for 10 years before any allergies and 15 years before I developed asthma. If you do get one, try to keep it out of your daughters room so she has a good 8 hours without breathing in tons of cat dander.
874521 tn?1424116797 Antihistamines can be helpful in some cats with atopy (pollen and dust allergies) but are not likely to be helpful in cats with food allergy (since the only effective treatment for food allergy is the hypoallergenic diet and nothing else orally but water). I do not often use benadryl in atopic cats, but I have had some success with chlorpheniramine 2-4mg/cat orally twice daily.
Avatar m tn When I am around common animals that have dander such as dogs, cats, bunnies or hamsters, I begin to develop a slight rash and my eyes swollen and I have an asthma attack. Well, I was around a cat the other day. I was holding it and petting it and stroking it. My left eye slightly swollen and my upper arm had 2 bumbs...I had no asthma. I am usually worse around dogs...but are my allergies starting to get better?
Avatar m tn s z/d which she does not want to eat. She can not afford to lose any more weight while we try to attempt to get her to eat this food. This cat was also given a Feline Leukemia vaccine 5 years ago by accident and had a bad reaction. I am convinced that this all has something to do with these vaccines and not the food she has been on for all of her life. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar m tn s nose and throat which causes him to cough to try to get the fur out of his mouth and nose. Sounds to me like your kitty may need to be brushed more often, carefully of course. Does your kitty throw up fur balls ? If he does, this means he is licking his fur which cats do naturally but brushing your cat on a more regular basis can cut down on the fur balls. I know because we have a male gingercat that needs to be brushed on a regular basis. I hope you find these suggestions useful.
Avatar f tn I have three cats and not sure if it's safe for the baby. I'm only 12 weeks but people kept telling me that cats will suffocate the baby once it's born. I really don't want to give them up. They're not just animals, they're my babies too.Suggestions?
387767 tn?1345872027 We always had cats, and I was told I was allergic to cats also, but it never bothered me. I had allergy shots years ago. I don't understand why this is happening. We paid for the dog and got all the shots and dog stuff and everyone loves him! Should I just try to deal with it? Is there anything I can do?
Avatar f tn My husband is allergic to Abby. I bought 'Allergy Relief from Cats' and followed the instructions. It worked!! So I guess no matter what feline you bring in, if hubby is allergic to the cat's saliva you can always get this product at a pet shop and do your thing... Good Luck!
753096 tn?1233582336 Is it uncommon to suddenly have an allergy to cats, even after owning one for fifteen years? As I'd stated before, I recently moved into a house with four cats, not including my own. So, is it possible that the increased number of cats has triggered a sudden allergy to them? Sorry if my question seems silly, but I've never had an allergy to anything before so getting one so unexpectedly is a little surprising. Thank you, again.
118225 tn?1278654940 htm In addition to the immunotherapy, you can go in for various measures in the environment which can reduce your chances of allergy to cats. You should not allow cats in your bedroom or the area where you spend most of your time and you can also try spraying areas where your dogs spend their time (carpets, sofas) with an anti allergen spray. Use reputable allergy avoidance products throughout your home. Wash your hands after having contact with your pet.
Avatar f tn Is there any way I can find out if I have an allergy to this cat? My mother is allergic to cats as well, she develops very large lumps when around cats. Are allergies hereditary? Also if I am allergic to this cat and come in contact again and develop more spots can it affect my baby?
Avatar n tn Hey, I am not too sure if that can be done. Instead i would like to ask you not to try and keep the pet if you are well aware that dogs cause allergy to u. I am unaware if there is a "serum " like that.
