Allergy testing in horses

Common Questions and Answers about Allergy testing in horses

allergies

Avatar m tn Basically, the syndrome can result from equine based injections. Unless you are receiving allergy shots for horses, this would not be associated with allergy shots. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/332032-overview I hope that helps. God bless.
Avatar f tn It has been about 3 weeks since i noticed it but its not getting any worse. Is there an eye med i can put in it in case there is some infection going on without causing blindness? Also there seems to be a little more watery discharge from it, but he typically has a little watery discharge from his eyes anyway. He is an appy and i know i have to watch for moon blindness but just wondering if he hit his eye or scraped it at some point could the swelling below the eye be a sign of infection?
Avatar f tn t really find anything about this specific topic. I have allergies to most animals; dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs birds(feathers) and I also have a mild allergy to red meat. If I'm allergic to an animal is it bad for me to have dairy products that come from the animal? I don't have any bad side effects (that I'm aware of) if I eat cheese/dairy, I've never really drank milk so I can't say if that would have an effect on me.
Avatar f tn As for your theory, contact can make the allergy worse. And sometimes allergies disappear on their own. So who knows.... I got rid of my allergies through kinesiology. The method is related to Chinese medicine. No medication is involved, and unlike the procedure used by traditional allergists, the results are swift and permanent.
Avatar f tn Im allergic to the horses the dogs the cat the hay my rabbits...
Avatar m tn I will be doing another complete allergy test tomorrow. The previous allergy test only showed an allergy to Ash, Grass, Rye, and Plantain pollen. Milkprotein was tested negative (!) I was tested for Milkprotein, Dustmites, Cats, Dogs, Horses, Guinea pigs, Rabbit, Hamster, Mold Fungus (Alternaria, Cladosporium, Penicillium mix, Aspergillus), Hasel, Birch, Ash, Rye, Plantain, Mugwort, and Ragweed Pollen. Any suggestions? I uploaded pictures of my CT scan on my profile.
Avatar n tn Persons are born with a tendency to have asthma inflammatory reactions (in the lungs). Sometimes this occurs in response to breathed-in allergens, to infection, to irritants like smoke, and to chemicals. Some people have asthma without an obvious cause. Most but not all persons with asthma have wheezes; some just cough. Some asthma is allergic but many cases are not. You should ask your son’s doctor why be believes allergy to be the cause of his cough. I can’t answer that question.
Avatar f tn Allergy testing in children is not terribly reliable, my son's doctor says. She says they can come up as sensitive to something that in real life they don't actually react to, and not show as sensitive to something that the parents know from observation that they are allergic to. She says it is better to just observe carefully, and test by experimenting with one food at a time.
Avatar f tn t go away, I just had allergy testing last Thurs. Out of the 44 things they tested me for, I was allergic to 22 of them. My lifestyle of farming, raising cattle and horses, and being outdoors, I now find I have been allergic to most things I have been **** all of my life. Before the allergy testing, they did a spirometry test. The results were awful. I am 60yrs old, my lung age is 76. Can the allergies I have been exposed to all of my adult life have cause COPD?
Avatar m tn I am still experiencing an allergic reaction to intradermal allergy skin testing. I have joint pain in my shoulder on the arm where allergy testing occurred. My skin is warm to the touch over the area tested and the skin marks where injections were done are larger though less raised than after the initial test. What should I do? I have applied a prescription steroid cream. I have taken my normal antihistamine. I have taken benadryl on top of it.
Avatar n tn If a vet suspects atopy they will actually do allergy testing and identify the specific allergen and start a process of desensitization. It is so frustrating for you to go to a vet, spend money, and walk away without an understanding of the problem, or at least common sense steps to take.
Avatar f tn I am a 47 year old female. I had a history of psoriasis as a child. My rash started in December of 2009. I saw a dermatologist who diagnosed the rash as hives and possible eczema. He placed me on Prednisone 40mg daily for almost 3 mo with little improvement. The rash is bilateral and is migratory. I have used several otc and prescriptions for antihistamines and lotions with little to no improvement. The rash is currently on my upper back, neck, scalp and hips.
Avatar f tn im giving her extra food and she is rugged in field with hayage but it is still dropping off her.does any one have any adivse in what i could do.
Avatar f tn The vet castrated our horse by hog tying him to the bumper of his truck. After that, he said 'let him run around in clean grass by himself for a day or two till it clots". I guess that's the normal routine with horses - I came into horses late in life, after a life in suburbia. I like it in the sticks now and if I tell a suburbanite something like this they are horrified. Well gee, what are you supposed to do- put him in bed? yeah, acohol affects everyone differenlty.
Avatar f tn I have owned and rode horses all my life. I am having difficulty coping with not being able to ride because ppl told me I cant. Is it seriously that big a deal to ride? I don't want to hurt my baby, but it's literally the only thing I have done for myself and can't deal with giving it up for so long...
Avatar f tn Where can I get the titanium allergy testing to see if I am sensitive to the hardware in my neck? I believe it is called the Melisa test and it is a blood test. Does anyone know where I can get this done?
Avatar f tn The clinician (it wasnt a doctor that performed the food challenge, although it was performed in a doctors office [an allergy specialists office @ that]- I believe the person who performed the challenge is a medical student or physician's assistant) said that since all my blood work & p r i c k tests came back negative, and the ingested amounts did not illicite any sort of reaction, that I was free to go and was not allergic to walnuts.
Avatar m tn Personally I prefer to get allergies tested by blood tests (relatively painless and only takes about a minute), even though it is apparently less effective in determining an allergy. I think it is completely worth it to get tested for allergies, as you might discover that you are allergic to other things as well (not really a good thing, but useful to know), and it helps you determine what you can and can't eat/do.
Avatar f tn I grew up in Eastern Europe and we never used medicine for colds and/or allergies and I never had any problems with runny nose, mucus etc... Four years ago my daughter started preschool and she started being sick. Every two weeks she would have cold symptoms, eventually I got the same symptoms. We were never sick before that. Eventually, I reached for tylenol cold for her and myself, doctors refused to look into in, they said they don't treat colds.
