Avatar m tn Thanks a lot ill try to get some capsules of this yeast :)
666921 tn?1254990618 I took Saccharomyces boulardii (aka S. boulardii). Kitty above describes it as a 'very beneficial yeast.' What the labels and the MDs don't tell you though is that like any yeast, in the wrong environment, the yeast can colonize your body, and set you up with a super sized yeast infection of your body/system. S.boulardii is relatively recent in the US but has been used in Europe for longer, and the medical literature is beginning to show reports of problems esp over there.
Avatar f tn In addition to the other comments that are pretty much what I was going to mention, until I saw that I would just be repeating what was already said, you may want to try digestive enzymes and probiotics. Most of us are low on the "friendly" gut bacteria. My naturopath recommended FloraStor and said that it's important to get the right kind, because many probiotics either simply don't work, or they're actually pathogenic.
Avatar n tn The easiest is yogurt, but any one particular brand may not have all the kinds of probiotics that are helpful. The one probiotic you should look for in yogurt or a pill is Saccharomyces Boulardii. it is important to take this probiotic on a regular, on-going basis as C-Diff can re-occur. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I started taking 2 pills a day of saccharomyces boulardii + most. It provides intestinal tract support as a probiotic. Fix the issue with in about 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn 48billion,Bifidobacterium bifidum 0.48billion,Saccharomyces boulardii 0.10billion,Streptococcus thermophilus0.48billion,Fructo Oligo Saccharides 300mg I wanted to know what exactly happend to me and these above given medicines are sufficient to cure this.I am very worried. Please help me out. Thanks in advance doctor.
Avatar f tn s insistence that all patients take the supposedly benign yeast Saccharomyces boulardii (aka S. boulardii) (common brand name: Florastor). At that time, I stopped taking all yeast products, including bread, as you mention. I have also given up anything with gluten (found in wheat) and golly do I feel better. I eat rice, because it has no gluten, but avoid anything else that might have gluten. Good points, thank you!
Avatar n tn Thanks for the response. Back in March, I went to see a nutritionist who asked me about family history and used a 'food allergy' machine to detect intolerances. After this she advised on eliminating gluten, yeast, dairy and prawns as well as taking a probiotic (Saccharomyces Boulardii), linseeds and a bitter aloe vera drink. As you can imagine, this wasn't much fun but I followed it for about a month. It produced some mixed results but overall I was not convinced.
Avatar n tn There is evidence that treatment with probiotics -- good bacteria that repopulate the gut -- makes antibiotic treatment more effective and prevents relapse. Saccharomyces boulardii appears to be particularly effective, although good results have been seen with Lactobacillus species as well." There is a new product available (I can't remember the name) that is found in the dairy section, usually near the yogurts. It is in a liquid form and sold as a "probiotic.
798555 tn?1292787551 My LLMD insisted on Saccharomyces boulardii (that is the generic name; one of the branded versions is called Florastor) because it can be taken at any time without regard to when the antibiotics are taken. That approach simplifies the dosing schedule, since you don't have to be watching the clock to know when and when not to take meds vs probiotics. Rarely, S. boulardii [including the Florastor brand] can cause problems -- as it did for me.
Avatar f tn My doc also insisted that patients take capsules to replenish the gut flora killed by the antibiotics. He recommended Florastor, which is a brand name of the generic Saccharomyces boulardii (S.boulardii for short). Florastor is not affected by the antibiotics and so can be taken at any time without worry of interaction between the Florastor and the antibiotics.
4451049 tn?1387153437 Florastor), which is a variety of yeast. It apparently works well in many people and can be taken at any time of day without regard to when the antibiotics are taken. I had an usual reaction to the Florastor, however, since it appears I am very sensitive to yeast, tho most people are not. If someone cannot take Florastor/S.
Avatar m tn My GP recommended taking the saccharomyces boulardii pro-biotic, like Primal Defense Ultra contains. That took care of the discomfort that I was having, but I sometimes still feeling a gnawing in my colon on my left side so I suppose that some colitus may exist. One other problem that I had in the past that might be worth mentioning is campylobacter. I had that about 30 years ago and it was rough.
692643 tn?1372611227 Hi Frankie. Makes me feel a whole lot better - had vaginal itch and thought it must be me! I got advice from our lovely local pharmasist - he recommended probiotics - the name of the one he suggested is Saccharomyces boulardii and it's amazing and calmed my bowels and cured the itching. They are not especially cheap, but well worth it - you can buy in some pharmacies or online.
Avatar m tn Do read the label on your probiotics closely to see if Saccharomyces boulardii or anything other than Lactobacillus is listed on the label. It was the S. boulardii (which is a yeast) that gave me such trouble when I was under treatment for Lyme. The only reason my LLMD had for recommending the S. boulardii was so that the antibiotics I was taking would not kill the probiotics, since yeast is not affected by antibiotics.
Avatar m tn During this time, he began taking probiotics - both acidophilus as well as beneficial yeast - saccharomyces boulardii. His stools firmed up some, but were never formed for the next 1.5 weeks. He then vomited 5x in one day with a formed stool and then diarrhea. The next day, just diarrhea but no vomiting. The 3rd day, more vomiting and diarrhea. The 4th, 5th, and 6th days, no vomiting but loose stools and no appetite. On the 7th day, more vomiting and diarrhea.
Avatar m tn Some people require bacitracin Some Trade Names AK-TRACIN or Saccharomyces boulardii, a yeast probiotic. Symptoms return in up to 20% of people with this disorder, and treatment with antibiotics is repeated. If diarrhea returns repeatedly, prolonged antibiotic therapy may be needed. In very rare instances, people are treated with preparations of lactobacillus given by mouth; an enema of fecal material, which recolonizes the intestine with normal bacteria; or intravenous gamma globulin.
Avatar m tn I am currently trying Acidophyllus Pearls, and Saccharomyces Boulardii+MOS as probiotics.I take Activia yogert in the evening.I have tryed Lactaid before because milk and pastries (especially milk though) will have me loose stools.Trying to eliminate all milk containing products is next to impossible .I will have to look into how to eliminate all lactose to see if that is doable. As far as different types of probiotics, I would not know what to try next .
Avatar m tn Hi, I also have IBS-D self diagnosed. I personally have few food intolerances that triggers it and avoid those. I came across Dr. Dhalman(hope is correct ) on youtube and learned quite a lot. Supposedly IBS-D is related to an imbalance in the gut, therefore the problems. I did follow the protocol and diet things he mentioned and felt really good for a while. I started using Diatomaceous Earth and it helps not to have the runs. I'm using a probiotic and it helps versus not using one.
Avatar m tn ve researched that if your intestines and gut are full of bad bacteria as in a overgrowth of fungi / candida it can cause your immune system to be severely depleted considering that 70% percent of your immune system depends on a healthy gut . I.m going to take saccharomyces boulardii strain of probiotics and a multiprobiotic that strains that targets candida /fungi overgrowth .
Avatar f tn 2 -- the special ones like Florastor, which is a brand name for generic Saccharomyces boulardii. These are NOT affected by antibiotics and can be taken at any time without regard to when other meds/supplements are taken, as Carrie's doc advises. I seem to have a genetic susceptibility to fungal infections, however, because I got a massive systemic fungal infection from Florastor.
Avatar n tn I was on clindamycin for over a month and my doctor who is flat out genius told me to be sure to tell me to take ,VSL3 medical grade, ( powder in the packets) and start out slow, and he told me this one particular will save my stomach, probiotics Saccharomyces Boulardii+MOS and told me to take exactly how many a day and told me if I followed his plan I would have any stomach issues, and I did not .
