Common Questions and Answers about Allergies or deviated septum

allergies

1329703 tn?1275158081 I have a deviated septum that was found when my allergy shots started working but I still couldn't breathe through my nose. I also have mild sinus issues with them clogging and a mild infection (normally my immune system gets it under control within a week or so). I have the surgery in a couple of weeks so I can't comment on the long term affects yet but I'm hopeful it will help!
Avatar m tn The septoplasty or rhinoplasty for deviated nasal septum (DNS) will help you to relieve your symptoms. If sinusitis cannot be managed with medication; surgical drainage would be definitive therapy. I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon for further management. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...

Avatar n tn I suggested maybe it was my sinuses, he did a CT scan of them and said my sinuses were clear, but I do have a severely deviated septum, which I do not think is contributing to these problems, since I have had no injuries to my nose, this would lead me to believe that I have had this issue all of my life (deviated septum). I have been checked for thyroid problems twice and my BP is good. I have seen a dentist and do not have TMJ or any abscesses.
Avatar m tn Getting the deviated septum fixed may help with the phelgm. The infected phelgm and mucus could be draining down your throat and causing the chronic bronchitis because the body is unable to fully clear the infection since there is constant mucus drainage. The lungs then are reacting to the high level of inflammatory and immune system cells present and thus causing the constriction and asthma symptoms.
Avatar m tn it revealed several polyps through out my sinuses, pus in my left cheek sinus, and airpocket in another sinus, deviated septum and my turbinates are 4x larger then they should be .im on xyzyal which is like zyrtec, veramyst, singular and i take claritin every day...
Avatar f tn Hi, Your symptom seem to be of sinusitis, but cause for it’s development could be allergies, infection, obstruction of sinuses or nasal polyps or deviated nasal septum. If you have recurrent sinusitis that is not responding to medical treatment then a CT scan would help to make out the exact cause for this recurrent sinusitis. Also, you need to make a note of what is triggering an attack in your case and try avoid it. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn is it because my deviated septum is visibly crooked there? (you can see my septum on the inside of my left nostril) and the hole to breathe in is smaller? or is it the allergies/small sinus infection? or could it even be really bad Anxiety making me feel this way? Any response is greatly appreciated. Or if somebody else has had this as well that would be great.
Avatar f tn I guess I should start with the fact that my husband has been suffering with this for 4 years. he never had any problems with sinuses or allergies or really anything until he worked in fiberglass for 10 months. Now he has constant pressure on his eyes, ears, and head. His throat closes or is so raw that he can't eat. We have found one doctor that dx a sever deviated septum. Unfortunately he needs 4,000.00 to fix something that might not even help. has anyone ever had a septum fixed?
Avatar f tn Starting last fall I was short of breath. I had a complete cardiac workup with no problems found. I had a brain MRI with and w/o contrast. Along with a small lesion, they found I had sinus issues. I was sent to an ENT Specialist, who put me on prednisone and an antibiotic for 30days. I still had the chronic runny nose, dripping, so was sent for a CT of my sinus'. my sinus are almost shut down, and I have a severe deviated septum. I will have surgery in August.
Avatar f tn I have chronic post nasal drip. I've had it for several years. The ENT told me I have a narrow passage and mild deviated septum. He told me Flonase wouldn't help me much. So I just take allergy meds and use saline when needed. But the past month I have been getting these pains/headache above my left eye, actually above my eyebrow. It comes and goes several times a day. It only last 30 seconds to maybe a couple minutes but I was thinking it was due to sinuses or allergies?
Avatar f tn Hello: I am a 26 year old female that has had ear and allergy problems pretty much all of my life. I have been to an ENT a couple times, but nothing has really ever come of the visits. Right now, I am not insured so I am unable to visit on at this time. My main concern right now is my ears. Every single day, from morning till night, they always feel sort of full.
Avatar f tn I went to an EET and had sinus surgery done a few years ago to open up for drainage and to repair a deviated septum. However, since then the pressure and lightheadedness is getting worse and adding to the equation I've got fullness in my ears. Sometimes at night it's all I can do to stand it; the pressure is so bad. I've been to the doctor complaining several times and he says it's "Indiana sinuses". I just don't know where to turn or what to do.

Avatar f tn I posted a question a few days ago and haven't received a response. I am new to this communiy, so please forgive the question if I am inpatient, but if no one response, does that mean that they just don't know the answer? In a nutshell, I have been sick with sinusitis and strep for over a month - on antibiotics, nettie pot, nasal drops, etc.
Avatar f tn Chronic sinusitis can be caused by infections of the upper respiratory tract, allergies and deviated nasal septum .Other suspected causes include mold or fungi in the sinuses. I feel that you need to get an evaluation from an ENT surgeon and get a course of antibiotics and sinus drainage. You may also require sinus surgery. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn I also had a CT scan done on my sinus area and was told it was clear. I would like to mention that I had deviated septum surgery about five years ago. These issues are really starting to affect my quality of life, and feel I feel hopeless. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Avatar f tn I had my first sinus infection in 2000. I was diagnosed with a deviated septum. Lived in Houston at the time, sinus infections were 1 every 3 months at least. I moved to a small country town in 2005. Had septoplasty to repair deviated septum. had allergy testing done and allergy shots. It was 6 months before I had a sinus infection after surgery. I have used NeilMed saline rinse for 6 years, and it truly cleanses the nostrils. I am a faithful uses, morning and evening.
Avatar f tn If the nurse swabbed you up to your deviated septum, then it could be either two things. It could be a CSF leak or an infection of your deviated septum. Most likely it is an infection caused by the nurse shoving that swab deep up in there, going into your deviated septum, and ripped open a blood vessel. All you can do is take some antibiotics, or see a ENT doctor for further analysis.
Avatar n tn t this have been noticed before? Would getting my deviated septum fixed relieve any or all of my symptoms? Thank you so much for your time and answers!
